  Stalker 1979

  I first saw Stalker a few years ago when I picked up the Criterion edition. I was already familiar with the film—I knew about its troubled production, the illnesses and deaths linked to the filming location, and Tarkovsky’s enduring reputation as a visionary.

  That knowledge became a burden before my first viewing. I was aware of the film’s legacy, of how people either revere it or dismiss it as an overlong, meandering metaphor. The weight of expectation was heavy.

  Things Will Be Different 2024

  I was fully locked in for the first hour, then a couple of very small choices infuriated me beyond belief.
  Things that aren’t story related, just dumb decisions.
  I decided to stick with it and I am glad I did because it recovers and hits the same heights. 

  Go in as cold as possible, don’t over think it and enjoy the ride.

  I knew it was shot on an iPhone but I didn’t know before hand that the entire film is from the POV of the presence. 
  It is such a smart choice and allows for a couple of fun gags and really interesting/innovative ways to portray the way the characters feel or sense the presence.
