  4.5 because I'm not sure how much it builds upon what Malick accomplished in Knight of Cups, which was a major breakthrough in terms of his filmic language. The reason latter-day Malick is so polarizing and hard-to-follow is that everything in his films takes place on the level of metaphor and myth, in a very Classical sense. I think this is why he likes big-name movie stars so much, they are universal and iconic like the dieties of a Pantheon.…
