Gladiator II 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Oof, that third act knocked a full star off this one and I'm being generous because Paul Mescal comes across with a lot of humility and thoughtfulness in interviews and I want him to succeed. Can't help but feel that there is a director's cut in the future where Lucilla isn't done dirty.

What's in a Name 2012
Simultaneously one of the wittiest and most nail-biting films I've ever seen.
The script is tight as a snare, and the characters who are put through it's emotional lurches are relatable to the point where I felt as though I was glimpsing into a crystal ball of my own future social trainreck.
If I was French...and despicable.

The Last Duel 2021
Seen at the cinema, recommend this if only for having your tits blown off by the sound production.
Yes it's pointedly ripping Rashomon structure, and yes every female character aside from Marguerite may as well be leaning an elbow on the 4th wall and winking at the women in the audience. But it was brutal, intense, edge-of-your-seat, gorgeously shot, medieval epic story-telling. The silver screen still has grunt.
Oh, and give Ridley Scott every historical epic screenplay subsequently written from this point onwards.
