An underseen Melville with a significant influence on the French New Wave movement with its DIY approach to film production. Since it's an adaptation of a novella published during the German occupation where an Uncle and niece silently house a Nazi soldier with a lot of opinions, most of the forward momentum is driven by the Uncle's voiceover. Though influential for the New Wave, I do wonder if Melville might have eschewed the voice-over and allowed the audience to sit with the silence like later films like Le Samouraï had it been made later in his career.

Hellraiser 1987
Third time watching Hellraiser in anticipation for David Bruckner’s reboot. I’m also planning on rewatching Hellraiser 2 and watching the rest of the sequels for the first time…so….wish me luck.
I think the arrival of the Cenobites is probably a top 5 best horror scene of all time, if not the best. Every line and every shot is just perfect. The ending’s not exactly perfect, but who cares when everything else is sooo good.
