This short paper uses cross-country data on per capita cigarette consumption and selected socioeconomic variables to explain inter-country differentials in consumption. It is found that the proportion of the aged in the total population and higher literacy among women have relatively greater and positive impact on cigarette consumption. Even after controlling for the effect of the two variables, a country's industrialized status has a positive impact on consumption. It would thus seem that aging and economic, and social developments are pro-cigarette consumption.

This article succinctly summarizes the growth experience of the four East Asian tiger economies (Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan) and three Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) states (Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand). The crisis of 1997-98 had come to pass and the economies have returned to growth but not at the same tempo as in the earlier times. Several of the economies have experienced significantly reduced levels of poverty and visible inequalities. The degree of income inequality (measured by the Gini coefficient), however, stays more or less constant, with the level being especially low in economies that have taken steps to keep it low.

This Development Convention endeavours to bring together the research, action perspectives and performance analysis pertaining to the achievement of the MDGs with a focus on South India in respect of performance, prospects and challenges. Over the past several years, B-school rankings have provided greater visibility for many business schools in India. The rankings have especial significance, thanks to the explosive growth of business schools. It has also been argued that to a large extent, these rankings have introduced a kind of democracy to the management education development industry. As mentioned by Bickerstaffe and Ridgers (2007), rankings of business schools have had some positive effects: they have brought transparency and filled information gaps.

ABSTRACT The paper tries to explore the trends of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Indian enterprises. The identified trends in CSR initiatives are both positive and crucial in nature. It is believed that the current research has a tremendous impact on society with respect to the CSR activities being conceived, adopted and initiated by various enterprises in different sectors. The covid-19 pandemic has caused the worst socio-economic disruption since World War ii. From the integral state perspective, this article explores the Eritrean government’s pandemic response and the ramifications for its people. The study seeks to understand the measures taken by the government to contain the virus and their immediate impact on the residents of the city of Keren, using individual stories, in-depth interviews, participant observations, media sources, and archival resources gathered from local and national resource centres in Eritrea between March and July 2020. According to the findings, the state’s main measures were restricting large gathering, maintaining complete or partial lockdowns, quarantining persons who might be infected, closing non-essential shops and stores, setting up hotline services, and running massive media campaigns. However, these measures hurt the livelihoods of the majority of residents, leaving many households without any way to earn a living.

The purpose of this article is to examine the broad contours of Eritrea-India relations in the past two decades, and in turn to stimulate further academic and policy researches with specific focus on the opportunities and challenges. To this end, secondary and primary sources have been thoroughly referred. Eritrea-India relation was formally established when Eritrea emerged as an independent sovereign state on May 24, 1993. Since then, both countries shared multi-dimensional relations, but with very limited results. India has provided manifold assistance to Eritrea in areas, such as agriculture, education, and science and Technology. India‟s engagement with Eritrea also extended to technical assistance, training and capacity development under the framework of South–South cooperation. General Indian Subcontinent lies on the cultural and geographical fault lines, with strong affinities and equally strong prejudices that have historical and social linkages among the nations of the region. The geo-political environment, rise of radical forces, technological advancements, resurgent nationalism, changing demography, competition for resources and social engineering through social media are few domains that will be visible for the next 20-30 years and steer the regional agendas. Our adversaries and friends are already working towards developing new methods and means to challenge the new Asian Order. We must be ready to encounter threats that will be multi-domain and hybrid in nature, where sophisticated information weapons may be employed for perception management, shaping of cognitive battle space in an operational environment where information is likely to act as decisive weapon.
