The flow of saliva slowly eased but turned tinged with red from the blood frothing between his teeth, and I grimaced as his long tongue lashed over dry gums, the scent of his breath washing over us once more.
The was a moment of silence, a sharp intake of breath, and then-
“That Is Better.”
“That sounds lovely,” Clint smiled weakly. “I’ll try okay?”
“Car picnic?” Bucky tilted his head, “then you just have to sit and enjoy the view.”
“I’ll try,” Clint repeated, biting his lip and watching Bucky as he started making a simple pancake batter.
“Hey,” Bucky said, offering a soft smile with the bowl and whisk in his hands. “I promise we’ll do something nice tonight, okay? Even if you don’t feel up to going out.”

So he picked a DVD at random, shoved his coffee table over, and stood in the newly cleared space, ready to huff and puff and sweat.
And then the phone rang, the landline in the kitchen that he insisted on having because cell phones could be unreliable—and he'd been right, look at what had happened with the Owl recently. He hit stop on the remote so fast it was a wonder the DVD player didn't spit the DVD out at him for his enthusiasm.

- Soaring off the rooftop again, he headed to Foggy's.
- Sometimes angels simply fall and Hell doesn't save them in time.
- "Matt? You all good in there? You gotta stop coming in early without telling me."

III - An Exercise in Grief
- Some days he doesn't know what to do with the heavy weight that settles behind his eyes, that wraps around his chest.
- So very alone in his grief.
- Frank thinks that the other creature in the cell with him is human. Or, at least it was, once upon a time.
- He trills, a sound of pure joy, the closest thing to a song the both of them are capable of producing, and Frank echoes it back to them as they twist through the slipstreams.
- There were 24 hours in a day. You lost 6 or so of those to sleep.
- “No drama, Cyrus got some good crab time, and this place is *full* of rats.”
- Kehaar was ill.
- (He doesn’t know they love him too much to leave him lost. Even Willabuck, who is incapable of love, but regardless is helping to hunt him down.)
VII - Day 29: Labyrinth
- He wasn’t really sure where he was.
- He knows that to leave he will have to go through there again, unless there is some other way to escape this labyrinth of books.
- There were sticky notes scattered across the walls. Messages left by passing ships, people who struggled to be in the same place at the same time.
- What a blessed part of life. To find friends, to find people who you can see as family, and to create a story together.
IX - Day 27: Laboratory
- This wasn’t what they’d signed up for. When they’d heard research, of learning more about how the human body worked, this wasn’t the experiments they’d imagined.
- When they were finally released, the scar never properly healed. An angry incision across their chest, and some days they questioned if the answers the research had given had truly been worth the suffering. Worth the physical and mental torment.
- This castle was filled with too many horrors, and it seemed they were only fated to leave one room, one monster, and find themselves face to face with another.
- When Moss pushes open the door, his clothes covered in dirt and grass, and looking shaken, it is all Willabuck can do to convince himself this is not a ghost.

Summary:
“Will it hurt?” He was 9, recently blinded and fighting against infection and chemicals trying to claim his life. “Will what hurt sweetie?” The nurse, his favourite, a calm and gentle voice, and hands that were cool against the heat of his skin. “Dying.” He’d heard the whispers, noticed the way his dad tried to grab hold of him and never let him go. How the Father from their church had visited too many times to be simply polite. Her voice caught in her throat before she replied, a smooth hand brushing his hair from his face, the thick weight of the bandage heavy on his eyes. “Quicker and easier than falling asleep.” It wasn't always though. Some days dying was messy and painful, and he simply held the hope that he was going to come back. It was a blessing and a curse, this immortality he'd found himself with.
Do you love Matt whump? What about the inevitability of death? And how about the inevitability of life for a guy who can't die?
If any of those things trip your trigger, this is the fic for you! Matt goes through some really brutal deaths and even death loops in this, all while wondering if each death will be his last. There's some fantastic Matt and Foggy and Frank interactions/friendship here, but the real star of the show is the agony of immortality lovingly depicted by the murder zebra herself, @stripedscribe. :3
