I like to write, draw, and talk about Pathfinder/DnD. 30s. Tag game and ask friendly!

Like Dungeons and Dragons? Looking for a fantasy adventure novel to sink your teeth into? Look no further!

Tales from Aurea is a long-running web novel based on a homebrew Pathfinder campaign. It features a cast of queer characters, a premise steeped in eastern European mythology, and a world modeled on the fall of the Roman Empire.

Synopsis:

The Aurean Empire, once the dominating force at the heart of Calthia, is crumbling. Those who have been waiting for their chance at greatness will seize power at any cost. As political chaos erupts across the continent, four unlikely companions come together with a humble goal: helping a mysterious young girl named Kaja find her way home. But when it comes to light that Kaja’s lost people have the ability to turn the tide in the power struggle gripping Calthia, suddenly all eyes—friend and foe alike—are turned towards her.

The Party:

The Wizard: Sakrattars Mistwood, the fourth son in a prominent Imperial family (that he no longer speaks with), cringefail loser, in it for the fame and academic redemption, has a useless toad named Bartholomew as a familiar The Barbarian: Jo, former elite warrior turned lone wolf, de facto leader of the group, dotes on Kaja and is highly protective of her, can shapeshift into a giant sabercat The Sorcerer: Kaja, lost child, traumatized, has some connection to dragons, kinda ditzy, very gentle... until you threaten her friends, low-key the strongest one in the party The Fighter: Leif Hjalmarsson, mercenary who loves wine women and song, enamored with heroism and glory but kinda sucks at fighting (maybe due to all the wine?) The Ranger: Amale Inyoni, the party's dog (literally), strong silent type but his wagging tail gives away his game, hates violence loves sticks

Content warnings: violence and blood, character death, discussion of topics including imperialism, genocide, and slavery

idk thinking about how sometimes you have to show up for people you aren't that close to, because sometimes you're just the person who's there. sometimes you invite a new friend to a party and end up having to sit with them through a panic attack. sometimes you run into an acquaintance on their worst day and they need to talk about what happened. sometimes someone is crying in a stairwell and you're the only one around to ask if they're okay. and none of this is "trauma dumping" or whatever the fuck it's just being there for people because you're the one in the room with them.

when u come up with a tiny change for your story that not only makes the writing flow better but also hammers in the character motivations and story theme

kind of weird how parts of your soul are left in various locations without any warning… like yes i’m always at the top of that hill, sitting at the bus stop, in the cool light of the Japanese restaurant, standing at the pier etc etc

Ten opening lines

Thank you @willtheweaver for the tag!

List the first line of the last ten (10) stories you published. Look to see any patterns you noticed yourself, and see if anyone else notices any.

I've only written for Tales from Aurea recently, so I'll do the opening lines to the last 10 chapters~

Session 16 - Molten Metal

The senior guard at the north gate yawned and stretched his paws out, massaging his claws into the wooden rail.

Session 17 - Guts and Gunpowder

Rage.

Session 18 - Little Bird

Amale watched helplessly as his patient turned his face away, unseeing eyes staring at some unfixed point in the distance.

Session 18.5 - A Look Back: Kaja

Juri breached the surface of the icy cold river, eagerly sucking in the restorative autumn air.

Session 19 - Codex

Kaja stood motionless, eyes scanning the span of tangled peaks where the Grayspurs met the Central Calthian mountain range.

Session 20 - Silence and Shadow

“Well, fancy elf,” Leif said dryly, “got any more bright ideas?”

Session 20.5 - A Look Back: Kaja, Part 2, The Darkest Day

Tension permeated Matus’ room, its toll evident in his young charges’ glassy eyes and grim silence.

Session 21 - The Voice in the Deep

It was a sullen morning, spent eating cold, spongy mushrooms under the faint light of Codex’s glow spell.

Session 22 - A Mother's Love

Leif drew in the line of the makeshift fishing gear and examined the untouched bit of jerky on the other end.

Session 23 - Ghosts of the Past (upcoming)

Kaja opened her eyes.

My observations: lots of looking and eyes 👀 🤣

Home didn’t make him think of Mythen Thaelas any longer. Home was the apartment, with his abandoned notes and Ashenivir’s mess of books. Home was a leash in the entryway and manacles on the bedframe, his cufflinks and Ashenivir’s hair ties on the nightstand; it was tangled sheets and sunlight glinting on the links of a collar, the mark beneath his hand and Ashenivir on his knees with hungry eyes and an eager smile. Mythen Thaelas without him would never be home at all.
