A general model, based on evolutionary first-order principles, is proposed. The model is applied to the experimentally observed evolution of E. coli in the Long Term Evolution Experiment (LTEE). It incorporates two recently noticed phenomena related to muta- tions: i) the fact that the marginal improvement from a beneficial mutation declines with increasing fitness, or diminishing-returns epistasis; ii) for some hypermutator variants the mutation rate for the bacterial DNA undergoes a sudden increase by at least one order of magnitude. The model can simultaneously predict the experimental mean fitness trajec- tory, as well as other observables such as the variance trajectory and the mean substitution trajectory, all through the 50,000 bacterial generations presently available.

منذ الخامس عشر من إبريل 2023 بدأت الاشتباكات المسلحة بين رفقاء الحرب والانقلاب، القوات المسلحة السودانية التي يقودها عبد الفتاح البرهان وبين قوات الدعم السريع بقيادة محمد حمدان دقلو (حميدتي) وكما كانت الإمارات العربية المتحدة حاضرة وبقوة في قيام " الحليفان" بانقلابهما على الرئيس السوداني السابق " عمر البشير" عشيّة العاشر من أبريل عام 2019، ظلت كذلك حاضرة وبقوة في مشهد نزاع الحلفاء، وللمفارقة هذا التحول تم خلال ثلاثة أعوام فقط. وفي الشهور القليلة الماضية تصاعدت حدة الاتهامات حول الدور الإماراتي، فتواجه الإمارات العربية المتحدة اتهامات مستمرة بتسليم أسلحة بشكل غير قانوني إلى قوات الدعم السريع، مما يطيل أمد الحرب، ويزيد من حجم المآسي التي يعاني منها الشعب السوداني. وبالرغم من وجود العديد من التقارير والوثائق التي تثبت دعم الإمارات لقوات الدعم السريع، إلا أنها تنفي وتدعي أنها تقوم بمساعدة اللاجئين وتخفيف حدة الأزمة الإنسانية في السودان، كما أنها وفقاً لتقارير إعلامية تستغل قوتها المادية ونفوذها السياسي في تمرير مخططاتها بعيداً عن الضغوط الدولية. ويرى بعض الباحثين أن الإمارات تسعى من هذا التحول في مواقفها إلى تحقيق أهداف عدة أهمها توسيع مجال هيمنتها الإقليمية ونقل مواجهتها مع السعودية إلى ساحة جديدة وهي ساحة البحر الأحمر، فليس بخاف أن الإمارات تسعي إلى السيطرة على الموانئ وخاصة البحر الأحمر من خلال سعيها للسيطرة على الموانئ في مصر والسودان والصومال واليمن لتهيمن بشكل كامل على البحر الأحمر وذلك بهدف السيطرة على هذه البقعة الحيوية التي تتحكم في مرور نفط وتجارة العالم من الغرب للشرق والعكس. وتأتي الخطوات الأخيرة لبدء مرحلة متجددة من الصراع في السودان التي يبدو أنها لن تنتهي قريباً، فيبدو أن السودان مقبل على النموذج الليبي " الدولة الفاشلة المنقسمة" الذي وبالرغم من أن الإمارات لم تحقق أهدافها به بشكل كامل إلا أنها استطاعت أن تحقق أحد أهدافها وهو إيقاف التنمية خاصة في الموانئ التي ربما قد تنافس أبوظبي ودبي وربما هذا هو أحد الأهداف التي تسعي الإمارات من تدخلها لدعم حميدتي، فطبيعة الحال لاتريد الإمارات أن تقوم الدول الأخرى ببناء منظومة تنموية قد تعرض مصالحها الاقتصادية للخطر، بل وربما يتعدى أهدافها إلى الحرص على تفكيك بعض الدول وتقسيمها. وتتناول الورقة أبعاد الموقف الإماراتي في السودان وكذلك أهدافه وأهم المسارات المستقبلية التي قد تنتهجها دولة الإمارات.

Problems of Education in the 21st Century

A laboratory for teaching computer programming and engineering concepts related to control applications was recently established in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics at the Ariel University Center of Samaria. The new laboratory provides hands-on experience in the design of control systems used in different fields of engineering. The lab offers an excellent introduction to programming concepts and research concepts that are often troublesome for the undergraduates. This paper describes the general approach and practical application of MATLAB and Simulink in the frame of a laboratory for teaching control. The main aim of the laboratory is to help students gain a deep understanding of typical problems in control applications. Students prepare codes in MATLAB and Simulink, based on knowledge acquired in a preliminary course on the theory of control.
