21st Century Studies

We enquired 216 young people about their career orientation who live in Bekes county. We examined the student’s habit of choices of career, capabilities, needs of study. We knew their requirements of higher education and potential workplace. In the good workplace in students’ mind it is important to have calm atmosphere, good community, neat environment, possibility of progress. In our publication we write about the students’ requirements, views of colleges and universities. The new generation know the 21st century’s ways of getting information and we need to forget the old methods and devices. What do they know about the institute? They would like to get experiences, know how much chance they have to get into the college or university and how useful the institution is.

Napjainkban a várostérségekből merítő felsőoktatási intézmények egyik küldetése lehet az újgazdaság, a szolgáltatások, a tudásgazdaság, a fenntartható fejlesztés elmaradott, periférikus, térséget felemelni képes diszciplináris (gazdálkodás és az üzleti szolgáltatások, a társadalomtudomány, a bölcsészettudomány, művészetek és pedagógusképzés) és interdiszciplináris területein oktasson, kutasson, innovációs szolgáltatásokat nyújtson. Ehhez kapcsolódóan Békés megyei középiskolások tanulási szokásait felmérő kutatás célja az volt, hogy a Békés megyében élő tehetséges középiskolás fiatalok közül minél többen kapcsolódjanak be a felsőfokú tanulmányokba, majd a felsőoktatási képzésében az explicit tudáson kívül a számukra releváns "soft skills", vagyis kommunikációs, szociális és vállalkozói kompetenciákat is adjunk az életen át tartó tanulás korszerű tartalmának megfelelően. Az életen át tartó tanulás korszerű tartalmával kapcsolatban Zachár László (2003) hangsúlyozza, hogy az mára a munkaerő-piaci pozíció megtartásának, vagyis a foglalkoztathatóság fenntartásának eszköze. Benedek (2007) a kifejezés értelmezésében azt a jellegzetességet emeli ki, hogy az egyén a munkaerőpiacra való belépéskor meglévő tudásával már nem képes megtartani társadalmi és gazdasági pozícióját, ezt csakis folyamatos és önálló fejlődésen, képzésen, művelődésen keresztül teheti meg. Célkitűzés A pályaválasztás Békés megyében című kutatás az EFOP 3.4.4 "Pályaorientáció és felkészülés az intelligens szakosodás szakmáira" című pályázat része. A kutatás célja, hogy feltárja a térségben élő középiskolások, és frissen végzett, de felsőoktatásba felvételt nem nyert fiatalok pályaválasztási és továbbtanulási motivációját, valamint képet adjon a válaszadók pályaválasztáshoz kapcsolódó önismeretéről, felsőoktatással, munkáltatóval kapcsolatos elvárásairól. A kutatás eredményei alapján összevethetővé válik egy korábbi, munkáltatói szervezetek megkérdezésén alapuló Békés megyei képességlista, amely a térség munkaerő-piaci szükségletére támaszkodik, és a középiskolások kompetenciáinak felmérését követően kidolgozandó felsőoktatási képesség lista, amelyek összevetése alapján a felsőfokú tanulmányok végzése során felkészíthetők a hallgatók a munka világának elvárásaira. Végső eredményként úgynevezett Skill-térkép dolgozható ki, amely a hallgatók, a felsőoktatási intézmény és a foglalkoztatók között közvetít. A kutatás eredményeinek összegzése a pályázat megvalósításának lényeges eleme annak érdekében, hogy a diákok tehetséggondozása és felzárkóztatása egymás mellett, ugyanakkor jól körülhatárolható szakmai elvárásokkal történjen. We are amid a global pandemic; poverty is rising and the powerful are get-ting richer through mechanisms that exploit, oppress, and deprive others. Meanwhile, mainstream criminology remains oblivious to this dreadful sit-uation and sticks to micro-studies on regression analysis, street crime desis-tance and prison control. Before the world collapses, shall we revisit critical criminology (CC) to call attention to structural violences and injustices? How should CC look in the 21st century?

У роботі представлено результати контент-аналізу підручників української мови для 4-9 класів та матеріалів для державної підсумкової атестації з української мови для 4 класу, рекомендованих МОН України для використання у загальноосвітніх навчальних закладах з українською та російською мовами навчання. Досліджено компоненти, які впливають на формування афективного та когнітивного компонентів релігійної ідентичності учнів, визначаючи приналежність останніх до відповідної релігійної групи та культури, формуючи їх уявлення про релігійні та моральні цінності і норми, символи, предмети матеріальної культури, історичної пам’яті і традицій. Виявлено специфіку даних компонентів та оцінено ефективність
пропонованого підручниками дискурсу в реалізації соціокультурної складової програми з української мови, насамперед у формуванні морально-етичних
цінностей учнів.

In an increasingly globalised and globalising world, „culture‟ appears as „an important determinant of subjectivity‟ and, consequently, of creative expression (Beautell 2000). With this in mind, Tötösy de Zepetnek (1999) prompted researchers to merge the comparative study of literature with that of cultural studies, embracing what he designated the new „comparative cultural studies‟ approach. If we are to accept Tötösy de Zepetnek‟s challenge, however, as I argue in this paper, it would be better to adopt a transcultural theoretical paradigm more apt to deal with the cultural complexities of the twenty-first century mobile age. Not only does „transculture/ality‟ – the combined notion of „transculture‟ (Epstein 1995, 2009) and „transculturality‟ (Welsch 1999, 2009) – appear to be endowed with the kind of dynamic non-linear nature and flexibility most needed in dealing with the fast- changing patterns and transformations in cultures and literatures, but it also seems to promote a new „borderless‟ comparative methodology. In doing so it marks an attempt to move away from nationalist stances and the insistence on the periphery–centre, colony– empire, ethnic–mainstream, pure–hybrid dichotomies with which comparative studies (especially within a postcolonial perspective) have been so far associated. It also offers the possibility of overcoming the nihilistic, self-defeating nature of anything „post-‟ to embrace instead the „visionary power‟ (Braidotti 2006), vitalist possibilities and new beginnings inherent in an approach that accepts the prefix proto- (starting from „protoglobal‟: Epstein 2004) when dealing with our contemporaneity.

Abstract Video games and virtual worlds play substantial roles in contemporary transhumanism. Many transhumanists appreciate the freedom and power that accompany these digital landscapes and recognize that they can promote transhumanist ways of thinking beyond the borders of explicitly transhumanist groups. Video games and virtual worlds enable transcendence through their design and contribute to transhumanism through the options they enable and the influence they have. Because of their significant place in transhumanism, video games and virtual worlds are thus important to the study of religion and science in the twenty-first century.

This paper examines how contemporary literary fiction responds to the climate crisis and the attendant call for a seemingly universalist "species view" of human beings. What does it mean to think of the human as a species, how can we find traces of species being in literature, and how do they interact with other dimensions of human lives? To address these questions, the paper confronts recent accounts of historical context, animal characters, and capitalist time with Annie Proulx's Barkskins (2016). Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) is a North American system launched in 1998 to assess sustainability parameters in buildings. It is managed by a non-governmental organization, the US Green Building Council (USGBC®), that was formed in the early 1990s. The system has obtained global relevance, and for this reason it has been a case study for several authors, who discuss the system’s technical performance and sustainability impact. Nevertheless, as this research is developed in the field of history and tenets of architecture and urbanism, other debates and scientific instruments arise. LEED®’s technical aspects are examined in order to clarify its operation premises, following the research hypothesis that these premises would have impact in the disciplines of architecture and urbanism, especially in their design strategies. Therefore, the thesis inquires the system in five parts. In the first part, it is reported the system’s history by means of identifying the agents involved in its formation and the positions disputed at that time. In the second part, it is carried out a conceptual elucidation of LEED® by means of establishing the references used by its founders, including it in the discussion of ecological modernization and ecocapitalism. In the third part, LEED®’s architectural and urbanistic impacts are formulated. On the one hand, the impacts are virtual – that is to say, they are related to the horizon of design potentialities implicit to LEED® –, while on the other hand they are empirical, an aspect that is detailed using two clusters of buildings located in marginal Pinheiros, in São Paulo, certified by LEED® Core & Shell. In the fourth part, the same methodology is applied, but this time to LEED® for Neighborhood Development. At last, in the fifth part, the connections between patterns and the architectural and urbanistic production of global cities are formulated. The research findings revealed how LEED® Core & Shell may support certain features of the North American corporate tower, how LEED® for Neighborhood Development sets the New Urbanism in a technical pattern and how the market may stress architectural and urbanistic questions in order to fulfill non-environmental design criteria. LEED® is read as a technology of neoliberalism, as it underlies global financial exchanges by offering parameters for the comparability between projects and mensuration of their features.

This report shows a critical view and analysis of the 21st century leadership, the introduction of the report discusses various definitions and quotes of leadership published by authors and professors of the 21st century and how the definitions have emerged throughout the coming years; the key characteristics of the 21st century leaders were also discussed in depth under the introduction section. Further on the report the differences and similarities of the key competencies and the leadership capabilities were discussed with quotations from journals and references, finally introduction concludes by stating the underlying causes of the change to the leadership capabilities stating appropriate citations and references. The 2nd section of the report is the critical analysis which is analyzed with academic definitions focuses on the comparison between various definitions and an overview of key themes and theories of leadership. The report concludes stating the main approach of the report, the discussion with regard to the definitions and recommendations for the future.

Over time the learner has been the explorer of knowledge, its accumulator and skilled ‘access-or’. In the 21st century challenges and demands are expanding and changing again. Our new society’s environment is one of rapid communication, action and change, of intricate social activity and a huge potential for new knowledge.

What are the models of the learner for this brave new world? How can higher education create these models and support the learners who aspire to them? This paper postulates four models of the learner of the future: collaborator, free agent, wise analyser and creative synthesiser. It describes an example of these kinds of learning and considers what they might imply for the development of learning in higher education in the coming century.

Eso se está traduciendo en un impulso en la penetración de la televisión conectada e híbrida, hasta el punto de la irrupción en escena del estándar HbbTV (Hybrid Broadcast and Broadband TV). The 20th Century revolved politically around competing interpretations of Capitalism, Communism, Socialism and Fascism. These are all ways to organize the lives of people on a large scale. Are real alternatives or new interpretations likely to emerge in the challenging years ahead? What might they look like?

Considerable scholarly discussion has been given to the idea that we are moving toward a state of “posthumanism.” This essay examines some possible implications of a posthuman existence, specifically as it relates to that most basic of human needs—sexuality. I explore the spiritual aspects of sexuality to see what is lost and what is gained in technologically mediated forms of sexuality. To that end, I consider the interplay between sexual behavior and our conceptions of the sacred, how technologies are changing our views of—and realities concerning—our bodies, and the potential for a sacred posthuman sexuality.

Nesta comunicação iremos tratar alguns aspetos da premiada obra de Gonçalo M. Tavares Uma Viagem à Índia (2010), considerada por muitos inovadora, desafiante e mesmo polémica. Após a sua publicação surgiu de imediato um debate sobre o género do texto e sobre a sua interrelação com Os Lusíadas, a epopeia camoniana esteio fundacional da cultura portuguesa. Os primeiros comentários foram no sentido de considerar que se tratava de uma recuperação pós-moderna, no século XXI, do modelo da epopeia camoniana. No entanto, à medida que avançamos na leitura e análise da epopeia/romance rapidamente nos apercebemos de que existe mais do que uma mera reinvenção da viagem narrada por Camões e que Bloom, o protagonista, traça um percurso inédito, de entre muitos outros possíveis, realizados ou por realizar, num tempo e num espaço de múltiplos sentidos na procura de “perceber qual o chão do nosso século” (Tavares, 2010a: 9).

This article examines the extent to which L'Esquive, the winner of four Césars in 2005, follows the recent traditions of beur and banlieue film-making in France, which, since the mid-1980s, have traced the particular histories of immigrant and marginalized populations that have otherwise largely gone underrepresented in French cinema . These films, as Carrie Tarr would put it, 'reframe difference' in order to highlight the ways in which France's self-conception as a nation state sometimes occludes certain identifications articulated by marginalized individuals and groups. In so doing, many of these films call into question the French model of integration by highlighting the extent to which socio-political and ideological factors have a hand in marginalizing these individuals. While one observes in L'Esquive many of the hallmarks of other banlieue films before it, this film nevertheless sets itself apart in the way it reframes the relationship between high and popular culture through its explicit and very conscious use of language. By juxtaposing the eighteenth century playwright Marivaux's play Le Jeu de l'amour et du hasard and the street slang of the Parisian banlieues, L'Esquive puts into question the very divide between high and low cultures. This article explores the implications of such a juxtaposition of different registers by taking into account both the film's production values (casting, budget, etc.) and the impact of its tremendous success at the Césars, as well as the way in which the film deftly deconstructs the much propagated stereotype of a necessarily violent banlieue. Through such sensitive and nuanced portrayal of banlieue life, L'Esquive goes a long way in laying bare some of the otherwise-hidden stakes of the French model of integration. 57 SFC 7 (1) 57-68

Why ? Because with all its flaws , its biased partisanship , its anti Russia and anti Asia agenda , it is a massive catalyst for thought.And when something is outrageous , it is also an intellectual treat to refute , rebut and challenge.The first chapter deals with the so called liberal story.My difference with the author is that what he calls “ liberal” is not liberal at all.Like how can you call the US Democrats liberal when they pioneered two of most unjust wars against secular, progressive regimes in the Middle East i.e Libya and Syria ?How can Obama be called liberal when he signed over one of the most massive increases in US nuclear arsenal , sanctioned maximum drone strikes on largely unsubstantiated random targets in Pakistans FATA region etc.Statement like the one below on page-17 does not paint the more complex picture.It is an oversimplification which one may term as gross distortion of history.

This study examines the significance of the boom of U.S. post-apocalyptic novels after the American Century. This dissertation argues that U.S. post-apocalyptic novels tend to be reactionary and political conservative, but that they can still be read critically for what I call their residues. I approach these novels as residual in three ways: first, in terms of residual social ontology within the post-apocalyptic novel; second, in their residual generic form; and, third, in the residues of their historical present. Residues of Now describes and investigates the field of contestation generated by U.S. post-apocalyptic novels in order to reveal the struggle between their reactionary and progressive logics.

Through recent artistic practices and technology of interactive systems for music, composition and improvisation have more and more blended and interconnected with each other – a sui generis situation now called comprovisation. The concept of comprovisation applies equally well to the spontaneous generation and manipulation of computer graphics, especially as such graphics are systematically coordinated audio-visually, while being subject to spontaneous manipulation by a performer.
This is explained in terms of the Fluxations and FluxNoisations Human Body Interfaces, interactive dance systems that generate music and graphics spontaneously in response to hand and body movement. They enable spontaneous expressive shaping of coherent complexity and variety. Thus a multi-layered multimodal experience arises. The aesthetic experience of this multimedia spectacle relates to experiences of various prior music and visual art of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, as well as to hypothetical physical realities. Thus a kind of cybernetic phenomenology of art is pursued and enacted through an embodied cybersynthesis of art with simulated alternate reality. Call it a pragmatic speculative realism, an adventurous technoetic ‘what if.’ As compared to more traditional forms of improvisation, the opportunities for risk-taking and aesthetic exploration rise to a new level of uncertainty, as the reactions of the improviser simultaneously draw from and target both visual and aural modalities, such that the intentions toward each fuse together."

Sigmund Freud in his New Introductory Lectures on Psycho-Analysis quotes ‘when you meet a human being, the first distinction you make is ‘male or female?’’  Therefore, is it possible to make a binary distinction with ‘unhesitating uncertainty’  or do the gender and sexual identity have a deeper meaning and less visible characteristics? In the research, the author has analyzed the contemporary British novel since 2000, which is the object of systematization from the standpoint of structuring the problem-thematic complexes and motifs represented in it, which determine the possibility of considering the novels in the broader paradigm of changing cultural and historical periods from postmodernism to post-postmodernism. The post-postmodern novel inherits the “omnivorousness”, heterogeneity, openness of structure inherent in postmodernism but exacerbates these tendencies by combining those strategies of representation of reality that have traditionally been considered incompatible because they are subordinated to opposite tendencies: mimesis and diegesis. The mimetic strategies of the writing a priori are not peculiar to the autobiographical letter, which becomes a valid element of the post-postmodern narrative expressing in it the discourse of memory in the aspect of remembering (mnemonics) and forgetting (amnesia). Diegesis in post-postmodern novels aims to form in the recipients the idea of the novel as a parable based on the mythical cosmogonic history. At the same time, in D. Mitchell's post-postmodern novel “Cloud Atlas”, there is an interaction of two mythological layers: the cosmogonic, which envisages a diegesis about the creation of the world, its destruction and resurrection after the catastrophe, and the myth of the people (heroes) who are the agents of changes and a tool in transformation it in the aspect of self-understanding. The approaches of domestic researchers on the post-postmodern novel, in particular in the aspect of the compatibility of forms of traditional literature and non-fiction, have been generalized. The role of the elements that are intended to give the story(s) probability (letters, diaries, etc.) as an alternative (private/individual) story that resists the official discourse has been discussed. The role of civilizational transformations in the chronotope of the novel “Cloud Atlas” is analyzed and strategies of universalization of the presented thematic complexes designed by D. Mitchell have been outlined.

The purpose of the study is to reveal the effect of cooperative learning on language skills in an English course. The study was carried out for 5 weeks with 66 students studying at the 10th grade at an Anatolian high school in the district of Karade niz Eregli in Zonguldak during the fall term of the 2015-2016 academic year. The design of the study was 'nonequivalent control groups pre-test post-test' which is one of quasi-experimental designs. Data were gathered using an achievement test measuring students' vocabulary knowledge, grammar knowledge, reading comprehension and listening skills. Results showed that cooperative learning had a larger effect on vocabulary knowledge, grammar, listening and reading skills compared to traditional method.

En este trabajo se presenta un registro panorámico y una evaluación general de la investigación sobre cine realizada en México en los primeros años del siglo XXI. El objetivo es conocer las tendencias temáticas, metodológicas y disciplinarias de la investigación sobre cine producida en el país en los primeros años del nuevo siglo. Para ello se estudian los materiales bibliohemerográficos y los documentales acerca del cine producidos de 2000 a 2016, considerando como un antecedente inmediato la producción de los materiales académicos generados durante las últimas cuatro décadas del siglo XX. De los 450 libros sobre cine producidos en el periodo estudiado, aquí se reseñan los 200 títulos de carácter académico. Este panorama permite observar la existencia de una tradición dominante de las ciencias sociales, y en particular los estudios sobre la historia del cine nacional y regional, y sobre la historia nacional reflejada en el cine de ficción. Es a partir del año 2005 cuando se inicia el trabajo colegiado desde la perspectiva de las humanidades, lo cual se debe a la creación de redes de trabajo, asociaciones de investigadores, grupos de discusión y congresos de especialistas, en particular por parte de quienes trabajan con herramientas de semiótica, narratología, ética, estética y teoría de los géneros cinematográficos.
