As a formerly colonized country, India takes very seriously the defence of its sovereignty and of its independence of action in the external realm as well as its identity as a Third World nation. These reasons contribute to its reluctance to push a democratic agenda in its foreign policy even though it has a democratic political system at home. Another important feature of India’s foreign policy operation is that despite a federal structure, foreign policy remains a highly centralized and executive function. This in turn limits space for creative public diplomacy initiatives especially along India’s international borders, which are often the sites of various kinds of dispute and contestation both at the state-to-state level and at the people-to-people level. Indian elites and the general public are perhaps slowly beginning to realize that dichotomy between the internal and the external in terms of social and political values and engagement do not make for good publicity. In particular, China’s rise is likely to bring the democracy argument with its specific Indian characteristics as opposed to its Western heritage into sharper relief. At the moment though, contradictions in Indian public diplomacy remain writ large.

W artykule przedstawiono studium przypadku sieci biznesowej, która powstała w celu zorganizowania konferencji międzynarodowej ABSL w 2014 roku w Poznaniu. Celem artykułu jest określenie uczestników sieci, którzy tworzą podstawowy, wzbogacony i poszerzony produkt na rynku turystki biznesowej. Założono, że podstawą do identyfikacji takiej sieci będzie wymiana wiedzy między podmiotami zaangażowanymi w organizację konferencji. W związku z tym w artykule omówiono rolę wymiany wiedzy w kształtowaniu sieci biznesowych, uwarunkowania sieci w przemyśle spotkań, metodykę badań prowadzonych w celu identyfikacji sieci związanej z konferencją ABSL 2014 oraz efekt badań, jakim jest wykaz podmiotów tworzących tę sieć.

Die Tagung kann auf der Grundlage der in den letzten Jahren, etwa im Zusammenhang mit diversen Tagungen und Ausstellungen der sogenannten Lutherdekade stehenden vorgelegten Forschungen zum Thema ‚katholische Bildverehrung’, ‚lutherische und protestantische‘ Bildverehrung und Bilderfrage und Bildkritik und ‚Bildersturm’ in vielen Bereichen einen jüngst akzentuierten und aktualisierten Forschungszweig erstmals diskutieren.
Dass Ikonoklasmus jedoch andererseits tagespolitisch besondere Aktualität hat, wird gerade durch Berichte etwa aus Syrien oder dem Irak deutlich, während auch an anderen Orten durch Vernachlässigung von Weltkulturerbe eine Zerstörung von Kunstwerken bewusst in Kauf genommen wird. Ebenso haben Klimaveränderungen, der Massentourismus und Naturkatastrophen bereits unzählige Werke vernichtet oder massiv verändert. Wie – so stellt sich eine Kernthese der Tagung dar – finden sich terminologische und methodische Apparaturen, um Bildzerstörungen der Gegenwart und der Vormoderne miteinander in Bezug zu setzen?
Der Fokus der Tagung soll daher nicht allein auf Bildverboten in Antike und Mittelalter, auf bildertheologischem Schrifttum oder dem reformatorischen Bildersturm in den südlichen Niederlanden, der Schweiz oder England liegen. Die angesprochene chronologisch als auch disziplinär vollzogene Breite des Forschungsfeldes bildet noch immer ein Desiderat. Welche Gründe lassen sich für die Zerstörung von Kunstwerken anführen? Wie unterscheidet sich die Wirkmächtigkeit des Bildes im Sinn von David Freedbergs „Power of Images“ in den unterschiedlichen Handlungsräumen und inwiefern wird das Kunstwerk als Bedrohung oder Waffe wahrgenommen?
Horst Bredekamps vor nunmehr vier Jahrzehnten ausgearbeitete Perspektive auf „Kunst als Medium sozialer Konflikte“ kam zu dem Ergebnis, dass Bilderstürme und die dahinter stehenden bilderstürmerischen Theorien auch essentielle Impulse setzten und Neuschöpfungen kreierten. Wie lässt sich dieser wegweisende Ansatz in aktuelle Forschungsdebatten eingliedern? Welche analytische Bedeutung haben in diesem Kontext Begriffe wie Zäsur, Umkodierung und Reinterpretation? Dabei muss der Blick auf die Frage gerichtet werden, wie die zeitgenössische Kunst mit dem Themenkomplex umgeht. Gerade diese Frage stellt ein spannendes Potential dar, das die Tagung anhand mehrerer Vorträge analysieren möchte: Inwiefern – so der Ansatz – ist das „Sich-Erneuern“ oder das bewusste Auslöschen ein Thema der Kunst? Inwiefern nehmen zeitgenössische Künstler ex- oder implizit Stellung zum vormodernen Bildersturm, inwiefern ist die Auflösung oder die Zerstörung positiv oder negativ konnotiert?
Mit der Analyse des Bildersturms ergreift das Kunsthistorische Forum Irsee 2017 einen Kernbereich Kunsthistorischer Forschung. Gerade im Zuge der Gründung des „Ulmer Vereins“ im Jahr 1968 wurde das Thema des Bildersturms in vielfältiger Form von der kunsthistorischen Forschung aufgegriffen (Warnke, Bredekamp). Bildersturm ist somit ein zentrales Moment der kunsthistorischen Fachgeschichte. Die Ergebnisse der in den vergangenen zehn Jahren, innerhalb der sogenannten Lutherdekade erfolgten maßgeblichen Forschungen zu Bildverehrung und Bildzerstörung in und nach der Reformation, sind im Fach noch nicht ausgewertet, was die Tagung unter anderem leisten soll. Sie sieht sich aber darüber hinaus explizit nicht als rein disziplinäre Veranstaltung.
Durch eine transdisziplinäre Betrachtung des Phänomens sollen erstmals die Prozesse langer Dauer des Themas grundlegend erfasst werden. Nur so kann das hochkomplexe Thema eine umfassende wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung erfahren und einen wichtigen Beitrag zur aktuellen Reformations- und Konfessionalsierungsforschung leisten, sowie ebenso zentrale Impulse für bildwissenschaftliche Fragestellungen. Die Tagung wird in deutscher und englischer Sprache stattfinden, die Publikation der Tagungsergebnisse ist zeitnah (Frühjahr 2018) fest eingeplant.

Held on the 13th of December 2017, Identities in YA marks a turning point in the study of young adult fiction. In this conference report, I not only share information about the day but also situate the conference within the wider field of YA studies and use this positioning to articulate a mini-State of YA

There are various kinds of censorship, but most often this term is connected with some kind of political tense and oppression. However, many important intellectual or artistic movements have developed under censorship in various countries over the years. So does censorship have a positive or negative influence on people's work and creation? Do people become more creative or intellectually fertile when they are oppressed in some way? In recent years – as it is often said – democracy throughout the world has seemed to collapse, and various political forces (e.g. ISIS or pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine) have oppressed people. Those who have decided to comment on current political situations have been punished for their words (as the journalists of Charlie Hebdo), and those who have broken national or political taboo have been incarcerated (as the members of a Russian feminist band Pussy Riot). When we live in such times, we start to think about the past – comparing it to presence – and ask ourselves numerous questions: Where does the freedom end, and where does the oppression start? What can we do to prevent such situations? How can we live under censorship and political oppression? We would like to share our queries with researchers with various experience, that is why we invite scholars interested and involved in: We encourage scholars from various countries and cultures to visit our conference, so the intellectual experience we share is deeper and multi-level! Different forms of presentations are encouraged, including case studies, theoretical investigations, problem-oriented arguments, and comparative analyses. We will be happy to hear from both experienced scholars and young academics at the start of their careers, as well as doctoral students. We also invite all persons interested in participating in the conference as listeners, without giving a presentation. We hope that due to its interdisciplinary nature, the conference will bring many interesting observations on and discussions about the role of censorship in the past and in the present-day world. At the time of writing, the reach of #MeToo continues unfolding. Frank revelations about experiences of sexual harassment and sexual assault reach well into the academic sphere, with stories emerging across disciplines, regions, and statuses within the academy. The momentum and urgency of this moment carries with it the potential for seriously addressing harassment, including harassment that occurs at academic conferences. In this article I seek to acknowledge experiences of harassment at conferences and consider the intersections of academic power dynamics and systems of oppression and advantage. I examine the ways in which conference communities have taken action to prevent and respond to harassment, and look to how we can resist and reject academic cultures in which harassment is allowed to thrive.

Regarding the great number of people who lose or have to leave their homes because of political conflicts, war, natural hazards etc. in the Mediterranean Region, this meeting aims to discuss the role of architecture in enhancing temporary living with all its cultural, social, economical and environmental aspects. In this sense the conference will address a series of issues focusing on temporary housing, reuse of existing facilities for housing, sustainable emergency architecture, spatial flexibility and human needs.

The International Conference on Health Sciences and Medical Technologies (ICHSMT'16) was held in Tlemcen, Algeria from 27-29 September 2016. The premise of this book is simple: if the chapter writers could go back in time and talk with themselves when they began their studies, what advice would they give? Isn’t hindsight a bonus? This review essay points to a series of creative contradictions that anthropologists who do not use text as a means to present their works encounter in the process of crafting their ethnographies. I make the case for audiovisual ethnographies and propose that the tensions suggested in these projects are mirrored across the discipline and are not specific to the medium used. The way many anthropologists are using non-textual media represents a continuity with epistemological and methodological principles, which have been at the heart of fieldwork-based anthropology. Audiovisual ethnographies have the potential to reflect on the discipline’s consistent epistemological and methodological contributions at the same time as they open new fields of inquiry.

The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated students' lives in different ways, depending not only on their level and education, but also on where they have reached their programs. therefore, it is especially important to study the reforms of countries in the field of education management. Therefore, we must always be prepared for possible changes in education management during crises and be aware of changes in the education strategies of other countries. The Covid-19 period continues to be a period of learning difficulties for kindergartens, schools and universities.
In this study, the coronavirus epidemic also known as COVID-19, which has started to be seen widely and still continues as of November 2019 and its impacts on the education sector are analyzed. It is clear that just as each country's methods of dealing with COVID-19 differ, so does the country's education sector's adaptation to COVID-19, the strategies it implements, and the changes it makes in education management differ too. The main purpose of my research is to take a closer look at different education administrations from different parts of the world during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is considered a crisis period, to study its pros and cons, and to identify the most acceptable features for future possible crisis periods. In this regard, I tried to focus on Europe, Asia, America and separately examined the educational strategies and crisis management of countries such as Turkey, Italy, Japan, China, Canada, Hungary, Norway, Finland and others. The first part of my research includes observation method, which is part of the empirical method of perception, and the second part includes the collection and selection of facts and the analysis of the relationship between them.

In this year of 2001, the University of Sydney continues to celebrate its sesquicentenary. Established by an act of Parliament in 1850, Sydney University was Australia’s first university. In 1852 it had three professors and 24 students; today the University has 5,580 staff and 39,950 students. A total of 218,347 students have graduated from the University since foundation.
Recognising the long-standing and cordial relations between the University of Sydney and the Department of Antiquities of Jordan, this year’s Eighth International Conference on the History and Archaeology of Jordan is being promoted as a major event in the Sesquicentenary program. The Conference is truly international in scope, with around 90 presentations and 125 participants from 15 countries. Papers will be presented over five days in two or three parallel sessions. The objective of this year’s meeting is to evaluate the contribution of historical and archaeological studies to our understanding of social, cultural and economic developments in Jordan and neighbouring countries from prehistoric times to the Ottoman period. A central theme is “pre-modern identities”, by which is meant the way community groups defined and projected themselves, intentionally or otherwise, and the way they interacted with others.

O Brasil vem vivenciando um processo crescente de socialização da gestão da velhice, que tem se transformado cada vez mais em uma questão pública. Dentro desse processo tem-se o fenômeno da feminização da velhice. Neste artigo, discutimos como as demandas das mulheres idosas são construídas e representadas nos espaços de participação social que fazem parte do processo decisório das políticas públicas que têm como público alvo as mulheres e as pessoas idosas. A partir da problemática a respeito de uma possível despolitização das mulheres idosas, a questão norteadora aqui é: "como são representadas as mulheres idosas nas deliberações das conferências nacionais de Política para as Mulheres e de Direitos da Pessoa Idosa?" A partir dos documentos analisados com o método de análise de conteúdo feminista qualitativo, foram evidenciados quatro eixos principais com relação às mulheres idosas: demográfico, saúde, cuidado e interseccional.

E-learning methods have drastically changed the educational environment and also reduced the use of papers and ultimately reduce the production of carbon footprint. E-learning methodology is an example of Green computing. Thus, in this paper, it is proposed a Cloud-Oriented Green Computing Architecture for eLearning Applications (COGALA). The e-Learning Applications using COGALA can lower expenses, reduce energy consumption, and help organizations with limited IT resources to deploy and maintain needed software in a timely manner. This paper also discussed the implication of this solution for future research directions to enable Cloud-Oriented Green Computing.
