IES modeling

Report introduces remodeling of a single storey part of 1 West Building at the Claverton Down campus. New structure will accommodate Physics Department of the University of Bath and is required to have general teaching areas, meeting spaces and offices. Focal point of the design was to provide modern and highly efficient building with regards to increasing environmental awareness. Also, new structure had to be architecturally integrated to the surrounding environment and improve aesthetics of the campus. All of the mentioned goals were achieved with particular attention to occupant comfort levels. Open floor plan introduced into the building is expected to
improve social interaction and efficiency of the department. In response to client`s requirements, proposed design showcases number of innovative features to provide high levels of natural daylighting, passive heating and environmentally friendly desiccant cooling system. Both, cooling and heating, work in conjunction with solar collectors, double façade and thermal mass of the structure. Improved environmental cautiousness is also highlighted by the of rain water harvesting, which is combined with a vacuum flushing system. High operational efficiency was achieved with cautious regard to embodied material energy and adequate waste management scheme.

One of the most discussed issues in the design community is the performance gap. In this research, we investigate for the first time whether part of the gap might be caused by the modelling literacy of design teams. A total of 108 building modellers were asked to comment on the importance of obtaining and using accurate values for 21 common modelling input variables, from U-values to occupancy schedules when using dynamic simulation to estimate annual energy demand. The questioning was based on a real building for which high-resolution energy, occupancy and temperature data were recorded. A sensitivity analysis was then conducted using a model of the building (based on the measured data) by perturbing one parameter in each simulation. The effect of each perturbation on the annual energy consumption given by the model was found and a ranked list generated. The order of this list was then compared to that given by the modellers for the same changes in the parameters. A correlation analysis indicated little correlation between which variables were thought to be important by the modellers and which proved to be objectively important. k-means cluster analysis identified subgroups of modellers and showed that 25% of the people tested were making judgements that appeared worse than a person responding at random. Follow-up checks showed that higher level qualifications, or having many years of experience in modelling, did not improve the accuracy of people's predictions. In addition, there was no correlation between modellers, with many ranking some parameters as important that others thought irrelevant. Using a three-part definition of literacy, it is concluded that this sample of modellers, and by implication the population of building modellers, cannot be considered modelling literate. This indicates a new cause of the performance gap. The results suggest a need and an opportunity for both industry and universities to increase their efforts with respect to building physics education, and if this is done, a part of the performance gap could be rapidly closed. Practical application: In any commercial simulation, the modeller will have to decide which parameters must be included and which might be ignored due to lack of time and/or data, and how much any approximations might perturb the results. In this paper, the judgment of 108 modellers was compared against each other. The results show that the internal mental models of thermal modellers disagree with one another, and disagree with the results of a validated thermal model. The lessons learnt will be of great utility to modellers, and those educating the next generation of modellers.

The report will look to find what is the most appropriate design for the new Swiss FIC headquarters and present the banking group with a range of options based on multiple parameters. The report will present a range of options for the design and location for the departmental headquarters of Swiss FIC taking into account their environmental impact, construction costs and costs implications arising from the building’s energy demand and consumption.

Resumo Este trabalho propõe uma modelagem em Contabilidade de Custos e Gestão Empresarial, num ambiente de educacional, proporcionando assim elementos que podem contribuir para um modelo conceitual de controle dos serviços públicos em uma instituição federal de ensino superior. A ferramenta custos e utilizada como modelo de controle de gerenciamento, na gestão universitária, nesta perspectiva, a questão dos custos pode-se inferir nos serviços, sobretudo porque se trata de um dos eixos norteadores deste trabalho, conforme o modelo que será proposto. A universidade pública brasileira, reconhecidamente de melhor qualidade que a média, também tem sido objeto de questionamentos freqüentes quanto à sua baixa produtividade e quanto à qualidade de seus produtos e serviços. Um sistema capaz de promover informações gerenciais sobre o uso de bens disponíveis e o resultado por ele proporcionado certamente poderia contribuir para diminuir as carências. Por reconhecer que o sistema formal de contabilidade pública e seus sistemas auxiliares convencionais (sistema analítico de contabilidade patrimonial) se mostram insuficientes para atender a todas as demandas de informações necessárias à gestão e custos o sistema proposto assume o caráter de um sistema complementar ao sistema de contabilidade formal. Outro aspecto relevante diz respeito a que diferentes níveis da organização necessitam de informações sobre a mesma atividade ou evento, porém diferenciadas quanto ao grau de abrangência e detalhamento. Tal fato induz à geração de informações com base de dados que possam ser compartilhados por diferentes usuários. Espera-se que um sistema com tal configuração e permeabilidade possa constituir um instrumento eficaz para a minimização das carências de recursos das IFESs e contribuir para um melhor desempenho, com vistas à qualidade e à produtividade.

Esta colaboración se propone invitar al público lector para realizar una reflexión académica sobre las alternativas que ofrece a las Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES), la utilización de la tecnología en el proceso enseñanza-aprendizaje de nuestros educandos, quienes ya se encuentran inmersos en un mundo configurado a través de otros esquemas de comunicación personal, interacción social, métodos de trabajo y de investigación-acción, así como de su propia vinculación con el entorno. A lo largo del texto se discute acerca del impacto e importancia de la educación ofertada a través de medios electrónicos y se ofrecen argumentos sobre su pertinencia.

A presente pesquisa aborda o contexto das IES's (Instituição de Educação Superior) brasileiras na década de 1990 em comparação com a atualidade, numa perspectiva política, legislativa, social e com dados estatísticos, enfatizando: as orientações do Banco Mundial (1994) para os países em desenvolvimento, as legislações brasileiras que norteiam a educação superior e o compromisso com a educação, o conhecimento, a pesquisa e, em especial, a responsabilidade social universitária. Os dados estatísticos contemplam um panorama histórico-social das IES, dos candidatos, das vagas, das ofertas, das regiões brasileiras, das matrículas e dos concluintes da década de 1990 e da atualidade. Esse panorama possibilita entender o que ocorre com a educação superior no Brasil desde a reforma universitária, até o ano de 2016, por meio do Censo da Educação Superior (MEC/INEP, 2017). Introdução A grande mudança nas políticas universitárias ocorre com a LDB (Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional-Lei nº 9.394/1996) que, por seu caráter pouco normativo na educação superior, necessitou de decretos e de outras normas que a complementassem. Em um período em que o país se encontra ainda em desenvolvimento, no qual aceitam-se orientações do Banco Mundial, dá-se ênfase à educação básica e diversas manobras para a demanda da educação superior são realizadas nas diversas regiões brasileiras, entre a graduação e a pós-graduação, no ensino público e privado, nas modalidades à distância e presencial, falar de IES no contexto social brasileiro é um tanto dificultoso.
