With the ambiguous link between innovation and gender, this paper explored Asian countries' complex adaptive behaviour in innovation amidst the global gender gap. Data sets from the Global Innovation Index 2019 the Global Gender Gap Report 2020 to represent innovation productivity and gender equality accordingly. Applying descriptive-analytic research, approaches like data mining, factor analysis, clustering, and complex adaptive systems were used. Factor analysis results revealed features of gender parity in innovation. Based on synergy count, there are more prevalent dissimilarities in innovation and gender equality characteristics among Asian. Highly innovative countries lead in synergy counts, while less innovative countries lag in it. However, moderately innovative countries have irregular results. The adoption of systems-focused risk assessment techniques has not led to measurable improvement in the rate of patient harm. Why? In part, because these tools focus solely on understanding problems, and provide no direct support for designing and managing solutions (i.e., risk control). This second installment of a 2-part series on rebalancing risk management describes a structured approach to bridging this gap: The Active Risk Control (ARC) Toolkit. A pilot study is presented to show how ARC Toolkit can improve the quality of risk management practice.

BACKGROUND: Fishbone diagrams have been widely promoted as a systems-focused hazard analysis tool for use in root cause analysis, but they suffer from a number of structural weaknesses, including a unidirectional structure that only takes into account forces that promote an accident (ignoring those that make the accident less likely or less severe) and a means of displaying these forces that does not convey any difference in strength of influence. In a separate but related issue, many healthcare organizations suffer from a lack of change management expertise.

PROPOSED SOLUTION: To address these concerns, I present a novel technique, the Lovebug diagram, which draws from both Fishbone diagrams and force-field analysis (an approach to analyzing planned change). This new technique adds value to both its progenitor methods, while retaining their key strengths and ease of use. It can be used both prospectively, to assess planned changes, and retrospectively to assess unplanned (accidental) departures from the status quo.

DISCUSSION: The Lovebug diagram is a more powerful analytical tool than its progenitor methods; however, overall adoption of systems-focused tools for root cause analysis remains suboptimal. Additional research is needed to determine how best to promote a truly systems-focused approach to healthcare root cause analysis. Beyond this retrospective use of the technique, it represents a simple tool to assist healthcare organizations with prospective change management.

Current practice in healthcare risk management is supported by many tools for risk assessment (understanding problems), but none for risk control (solving problems).  The results: a failure to improve safety, and a waste of the investment made in risk assessment.  The Active Risk Control (ARC) Toolkit, available for free, fills this void with a systematic, structured approach to risk control.

This article reports the findings from a study that compared states of ‘teacher readiness’ with the learning performance of students. The central proposition is that high states of ‘teacher readiness’ in a school would be an indicator of improvement in whole of school student learning. This proposition is based on research evidence implicating the teacher in student learning outcome success and the key role played by school leaders. As an adjunct to this proposition we also sought to compare ICSEA values and funding levels per school in an attempt to identify other improvement considerations. The findings of this study indicate that high levels of ‘teacher readiness’, as defined by the ACE approach, are associated with effective teaching and improvement in student outcomes. Natural calamities cause massive affliction among affected communities. As a result, most survivors have to rely on their coping mechanisms and deal with their losses and consequent emotional grief. Taking November 8, 2013, super typhoon Haiyan, which was known as “Yolanda” locally, as an example, this study aims to report findings from within a phenomenological study designed to investigate the lived experiences of Yolanda survivors in Tacloban City. This study is based on the philosophy of Martin Heidegger, which recognises the role of self in interpretation and utilises hermeneutic phenomenology, which is concerned with understanding texts. In-depth interviews with survivors were conducted, and their responses were audio-recorded and transcribed. Sustainable competitive advantage is the ultimate goal of numerous creative oriented firms. Therefore, this study’s purpose is to investigate the relationship amongst transformational leadership and employee creative performance with the intervening mechanism of creative self-efficacy, furthermore, this study’s purpose is to examine the knowledge sharing culture moderating role amongst transformational leadership and creative self-efficacy. A quantitative survey methodology was used for data collection, and 150 questionnaires have been circulated to employees employed in the private banking sector situated within twin city premises. This study’s result indicated that transformational leadership and employee creative performance have significant relationships with each other, moreover, creative self-efficacy mediates amongst that relationship. This study has examined the relationship between individual socialization content and effectiveness professional socialization of beginning English teachers in Pakistan. The content of professional socialization comprised four variables including teaching skill, professional training, association with senior colleagues, and organizational environment. Effective socialization was defined as the level of job satisfaction with the organizational culture and professional learning programs. The survey method, with a detailed valid questionnaire, was used to collect the data from randomly selected sample from the various strata, i.e., 150 beginning English teachers. As the result of the rapid expansion of digital communications, university students worldwide are increasingly engaging with educational and social media during their studies. Challenges are reported in the literature associated with responsible digital citizenship; specifically communicating, connecting and engaging ethically with online media technologies. This creates a conundrum for staff and students working and learning in higher education. To explore one component of the complex role of the relationship between university students’ and various media, this literature review examines the following research question: What are the potential impacts of educational and social media on the mental health and wellness of students in higher education? Projects and initiatives demonstrate how educational media is designed and enacted to promote, support and sustain mental health in higher education.

This study aims to measure the six global competencies (6Cs) among trainee teachers. It follows the implementation of the New Pedagogies for Deep Learning (NPDL), in a Malaysian Teacher Training Institute. NPDL is a commitment to building a learning relationship between and among students, lecturers and the community, based on current learning development. Learning partnership is emphasised throughout the implementation. NPDL consists of three main areas, namely competency, learning design and learning environment. Every writer knows putting words on paper is a difficult task. Sometimes the difficulties become insurmountable. He got himself into a state of frustration in writing when the flow of ideas stopped. A writer got stuck and banged his head against the wall for long hours instead of writing. His struggle becomes futile without getting the desired result. Despite being armed with knowledge and language ability, he cannot execute his task. The objective is primarily to understand the cognitive processes in writing employing different approaches: mechanistic writing and developmental organic writing models. Critical incidents are unanticipated challenges experienced in the context of practice-teaching, by teacher-interns which are turning points for prospective improvements later on in the profession. With this in mind, the researchers aimed to identify the common persistent critical incidents experienced by pre-service physical educators (PSPEs) from a certain Philippine higher education institution during their off-campus teaching. One hundred and fifty-eight (158) pre-service physical educators from a teacher education institution in Pampanga, Philippines composed the pool of prospective key informants. From this, they were streamlined to ten (10) to participate in a focus group discussion; particularly those with extreme cases. Spanish and English phonological systems vary considerably regarding the number of vowel sounds (12 in English, but only 5 in Spanish). This makes that Spanish-speaking students present many difficulties when interacting orally in English. For this reason, a Teaching Innovation Project approved by the University of Valladolid was carried out on the Soria Campus with the aim of improving students’ listening comprehension skills by providing them with basic phonetic notions and training in transcription, as well as doing some pre-arranged self-study practice. The results obtained were slightly higher in the final test in most cases, suggesting the positive impact of the intervention.

Selangor is leading in the economy and contributes towards 23% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Malaysia. Does its social status equate to its economic status? This paper examined the element of Quality of Life (QoL), underpinning the twelve domains provided by the state across all of its town municipals. A total of 1500 questionnaires were distributed to Selangorians as the targeted respondents by using random and non-proportionate stratified samplings. SPSS and SmartPLS were utilised for descriptive and statistical analysis purposes. The findings revealed the domains of building (t-value=2.515), digital infrastructures (t-value=1.986), disaster management (t-value=2.127), food and agriculture (t-value= 2.917), safety and security (t-value=2.217), and transport and mobility (t-value=2.155) were significant towards QoL. In contrast, education (t-values=0.81), energy and utility (t-values=0.074), governance (t-values=1.833), healthcare (t-values=0.816), waste management (t-values=1.708), and water management (t-values=0.88) were found to be not significant towards the construct. These outcomes yield a tool for better governance.

This research is aimed at testing, analysing and explaining the effects of job satisfaction, discipline and transformational leadership style toward employees’ performance of PT. There were 102 respondents who participated in this study and provided valid data to be analysed. The data was then analysed using the paired linear regression analysis with the help of SPSS program of version 22. The excessive immorality being played out by businessmen all over the world has become alarming in most communities especially in relation to the masses. This may not be unconnected with a weak practice of Islamic culture in business dealings by some of the traders. This necessitates the need for rules and guidelines for the conduct of businesses to avoid exploitation and people taking advantage of one another. Using Islamic theory, the study aimed at assessing how the Hisbah principles moderate the relationship between Islamic culture of Muslim traders and Islamic Business Ethics (IBE). The study is quantitative in nature and therefore a questionnaire was used for data collection. The data was analysed using PLS-SEM 2.0. Respondents consisted of 155 Muslim traders and 243 customers in Sokoto, Nigeria. Empirically, this paper provides insights on how Hisbah principle moderates the relationship between Islamic culture and Islamic business ethics. The study found that application of Hisbah principles in businesses significantly moderates the relationship between Islamic culture and Islamic business ethics. The study also found that abominable and immoral acts in the businesses occur because of nonapplication of Hisbah principles in business transactions. The findings suggest that greediness and selfishness is an important factor influencing business ethical judgments. Thus, there is need for effective control based on authentic principles to build a strong economy in the society. Specifically, the program sought to engage a school’s teaching staff, what is referred to as the Talent in the program, to deal with localised Indigenous school challenges by having them conceptualise and deliver their improvement plans through three inter-related elements: ‘readiness’, Talent and Adaptive Solutions. The paper suggests that despite the best intentions of parties involved, establishing and maintaining such a program, at least to the point of being able to properly implement and evaluate it, requires that the schooling context, i.e., the community in which it serves, has first created the required community conditions. In effect, engaged its own adaptive solution to inherent challenges.

This qualitative study, set against the backdrop of Egypt, examines how social media influencers construct their online identity and build their online persona. Social media, which have been primarily developed in the West, have infiltrated the Egyptian society; they have opened doors to different forms of personae and content such as social media influencers. In Egypt their numbers have increased, and they have become an important part of the social media scene. They aim to build their audiences and fan bases with the ultimate objective of monetising their presence. This study focuses on nine Egyptian social media influencers, through employing in-depth interviews, and seeks to explore how they construct their online identity and how they build their distinct personae. The analysis revealed that they build a distinct online person for themselves to impress their audiences and fans. Moreover, they perform authentically; they seek to be perceived as authentic and to display this authenticity they undertake a number of processes.

More than a decade has passed since the introduction of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) within schools in Africa. Computer-assisted instruction has enhanced teaching and learning at all levels of education in Africa. However, many aspects of the issues facing CAI implementation, as well as its effects on students' performance in the history classroom are unclear. This necessitated the systematic review into two aspects. Firstly, the effects of CAI on students' performance in the teaching and learning of history in Africa, and secondly, the various challenges facing CAI's implementation in Africa. Furthermore, to facilitate future research, the researchers summarised several research methodologies used in the studies reviewed. The results from a systematic review of 11 studies revealed that CAI has a positive effect on students' academic performance in history. The challenges to CAI implementation that were identified included: a lack of funding, training of teachers, and of motivation on the part of teachers; inadequate technological infrastructure; a lack of Internet; an unstable power supply; a lack of technological support; the poor information communication technology (ICT) skills of history and social studies teachers; a lack of school-based policies; and a digital divide between male and female students. Moreover, a quantitative approach was the preferred design with both descriptive and inferential statistics as the main statistical tools used for the data analysis. The impact of the Covid-19 disease pandemic caused the official government ministry of education in Indonesia to take a strategic step, conducting teaching by e-learning. In the university context, for lecturers who are technologically illiterate, the use of e-learning could be a burden and difficult to learn quickly. It required a readiness for change to adapt and learn e-learning. An antecedent that is considered to shape readiness for change from an individual perspective is Psychological Capital (PsyCap). Therefore, this study, in addition to understanding the readiness for change based on PsyCap by Indonesian lecturers, also provides empirical evidence of the PsyCap dimensions of readiness for change. The data process was conducted using SmartPLS 2.0. The results indicate that self-efficacy, optimism and resilience have significant effects on readiness for change, while hope has no significant effect on readiness for change.

The current study aimed at identifying the impact of the addictive use of smartphones by students with learning disabilities on the social, psychological and academic domains. The sample of the study consisted of 210 male and female students enrolled in classes of resource rooms of grades five to nine in public and private schools at the Ministry of Education in Amman governorate. The researcher developed two measures to achieve the goals of the study; the first is “a scale to measure the addiction of smartphones use”, which contains 32 items, and another scale to measure the “impact of smartphones excessive use on social, emotional and academic domains”, which contains (30) items. The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of executives’ gender on the firm value of Indonesian manufacturing firms. Executives' gender is measured by the existence of women as CEOs and CFOs, and corporate value is measured by Tobin’s Q. This study hypothesizes that both female CEO’s and CFO’s have a positive association with firm value. The sample of this research is manufacturing firms listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange in the period of 2016-2017. Data was collected from companies’ annual reports and their websites; while financial data was obtained from the Thomson Reuters Eikon database. The results of the descriptive data showed the percentage of female CFO’s in the studied sample was 19%, and the results from a panel regression indicate a positive effect on firm value. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact Intellectual capital and information management with respect to competitive advantage. This study has been conducted in Padang City, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Research respondents are bank employees who have worked for more than 5 years and have structural positions in the company. The data has been collected by using a survey with questionnaires. We got 109 responses out of 135 questionnaires, so the research response rate was 80.7%.
