Coyote howl sound clip get the students engaged in the story I am going to tell them. They love wild dogs! Ask them what kind of animal they think it is? A coyote is the main character of a story we are going to read called Coyote places the stars.

Read coyote places the stars
Ask for connections/ comments/ concerns Do you think that a coyote put all those stars up there in the sky? Why do some people believe this? What do those stars mean If students are uncertain give them a moment to think.
Modelling: Students listen and repeat back the steps for understanding
Modelling: Have a model ready for them. Choose an object, animal, word, that means a lot to you and create your own constellation using gold stars and white crayons (On the board) You will be given 6 gold stars, black piece of construction paper and a W/S to tell us why you have chosen this as Guided Practice: your constellation Students close their eyes and Why is it important to you? really think about what is important to them Guided Practice: Think, Pair, Share Students pair up and share Close your eyes for 30 seconds and really with each other think about what is important to you and your life! Students raise their hands Pair them up (next to eachother) and get and share their partners them to tell their partner ideas.
