This document describes an automation laboratory module involving two experiments - designing a pneumatic system and an electro-pneumatic system. In experiment 1a, students are asked to design a pneumatic circuit for a magazine clamping machine using pneumatic components from a training system. In experiment 1b, students are to design electro-pneumatic and electrical circuits to control a two-level conveyor system using sensors and pneumatic components from an electro-pneumatic training system. The document provides details on the tasks, expected outputs, and evaluation criteria for each experiment.

Design a Pneumatic and an Electro-pneumatic System
Objective:
To study on how to design and develop an Automation system using Pneumatic system and an Electro-pneumatic system, and understand the differences and the advantages among these two systems.
Experiment 1(a) Design a Pneumatic System using Pneumatic Training System
Design a magazine clamping machine circuit with two cylinders based on below Machine diagram and descriptions.
Figure 1. Machine diagram
Process description
1. When a push-button is operated, a pressure die-cast housing for a surveillance camera is fed from a magazine to machining station by a double-acting cylinder (1A) and clamped.
2. A second, pressure restricted, double-acting cylinder (2A) then clamps the thin walled housing from a direction of 90 degree to the first cylinder. The completed clamping action is signaled by 2/3-way roller lever valves.
3. When the machining of the housing is finished, a second push button is operated. This causes an unthrottled return stroke of both cylinders in the reverse sequence.

Experiment 1(b) Design an Electro-pneumatic system using Electro-pneumatic Training System
Product transfer on two level conveyors.
Two (2) double acting cylinders (A and B) are used to transfer product on two level conveyors system. Cylinder A will push slowly the product upward when proximity sensor C detected upcoming part from 1 st conveyor. Cylinder B will push slowly the product to 2 nd
conveyor. Both end position for cylinder A and B is monitor by limit switch. The system will automatically ON when START button is pressed and OFF when STOP button is pressed.
Above operation can be translate to the Sequence diagram as shown in Diagram 1(a).
