HOW TO USE THIS MANUAL

This technical bulletin contains instructions for installing warning lights on various vehicles using the warning light kit.
Not all vehicles are covered in this bulletin, but those vehicles that are covered are-listed alphabetically at the beginning
of Chapter 2, or within Chapter 3, and in the index. Look there to see if your vehicle is included in this bulletin.

Tools and materials required are listed at the beginning of each installation task. Ensure that you have everything you
need before beginning the installation.

Within the installation tasks, reference is made to Appendix B for specific parts of the warning light kit. Ensure that
your warning light kit is complete before beginning the installation, and always refer to Appendix B for the correct part
before installing it on the vehicle.

1-5. WARNING LIGHTS.

Three warning lights are available. The Bosch warning light, NSN 6220-12-140-0499, for 24-volt systems, is
required for use in USAREUR. Warning light, NSN 6220-00-947-7570, is for a 24-volt system and warning light, NSN
6220-00-947-7535, is for a 12-volt system.

1-6. WARNING LIGHT KIT.

a. The warning light kit includes mounting hardware to install the warning light as well as electrical leads and
adapters to connect the warning light to the vehicle's electrical system. The warning light kit does not include the warning
light. Instructions for mounting the warning light are included with the warning light.

b. See Appendix B for a complete list of items furnished in the warning light kit.

c. All supplies and materials are unit level maintenance except those required for installation of the M998
series vehicles.

NOTE
The warning light is installed on the left side turret bustle brace. The electrical connection is
made at the utility receptacle on the turret network box.

a. INSTALLATION

1. Rotate turret to desired position for road travel (main gun to front or to rear) (see TM 9-2350-255/264-10).

NOTE
Attaching warning light to turret bustle brace may require additional support. If additional
support is required, perform step 2. If not, start with step 3.

2. Use two plates (4 in. thick x 4 in. x 2 in.) (0.63 cm thick x 10.16 cm x 5.08 cm) and position them on both sides of
turret bustle brace (1). Install clamp (2) over plates and tighten three bolts (3) to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

3. Install clamp (2) on inside of left side turret bustle brace (1) using three bolts (3). Torque bolts to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24
N•m).

4. Install angle (4), with curved portion pointing to rear, on top threaded hole of clamp (2) using screw (5) and lock
washer (6). Torque screw to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

5. Install bracket (7), with mounting socket pointing up and two bolts facing out, on angle (4) using bolt (8) and lock
washer (9). Torque bolt to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

6. Loosen, but do not remove, two bolts in bracket (7).


Insert pipe (10) and torque bolts to 6 lb.-ft. (8.12
N•m).

7. Screw plate (11) to top of pipe (10) until finger tight.

NOTE
Ensure that end of cable assembly with connector is located at threaded end of shaft.

8. Loosen screw (12), insert end of cable assembly


(13) in hole of adapter (14), then tighten screw.

9. Thread cable assembly (13) through shaft (15) and


screw adapter (14) into shaft. Insert shaft into
warning light.

10. Ensure that cable assembly (13) is in slot of


shaft (15) and install shaft and warning light on
plate (11).

11. Connect cable assembly (16) to plate (11) using


screw (17), lock washer (18), and nut (19).

12. Rotate commander's weapon station to desired


position for travel. Remove one of the unity
vision periscopes at rear or left of commander's
weapon station (see TM 9-2350-255/264-10).
Stow periscope for travel.

b. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

1. Connect cord assembly (20) to cable assemblies on warning light.

2. Push other end of cord assembly (20) through unity vision periscope port into commander's station. Enter
vehicle and connect cord assembly to branched wiring harness (21).

3. Plug 4 pin male plug on branched wiring harness (21) into utility receptacle (22) on turret network box. Secure
cord assembly to mounting post and to turret ceiling using electrical tie-down straps as necessary.

c. TEMPORARY REMOVAL

1. Reverse procedure in step 3 of electrical connection to remove branched wiring harness.

2. Reverse procedure in step 1 of installation to remove warning light and mount.

3. Stow warning light, cord assembly, and branched wiring harness.

4. To install warning light, perform step 2 or 3 of installation and steps 2 and 3 of electrical connection.

NOTE
The warning light is installed on the left side bustle extension just forward of the antenna mount.
The electrical connection is made at the right taillight.

a. INSTALLATION

1. Install clamp (1), with saddle of clamp over bustle extension and two hole side of clamp facing out, on bustle
extension using two bolts (2). Torque bolts to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

2. Install angle (3) on top clamp joint using screw (4) and lock washer (5). Torque screw to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

3. Install bracket (6) on angle using screw (7) and lock washer (8). Ensure that pipe (9), when installed, will be as
vertical as possible. Torque screw to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

4. Loosen, but do not remove, two bolts (10) in bracket (6). Insert pipe (9), ensuring that pipe is as vertical as possible,
and torque bolts to 6 lb.-ft. (8.12 N•m).

NOTE
• Perform step 5 if Bosch (for use in USAREUR) warning light is being installed.
• Skip step 5 and perform steps 6 through 9 if installing 24-volt (American) warning light.

5. Perform steps 8 through 11 of paragraph 2-1, installation procedure, for Bosch warning light.

6. Loosen ring and remove lens from warning light, then


remove three nuts and screws from warning light.

7. Align holes in plate (11) with holes in warning light


and install three screws and nuts.

8. Install lens on warning light.

9. Screw plate (11) with warning light on pipe (9).

b. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

1. Connect cable assembly (12) to plate (11) using


screw (13), lock washer (14), and nut (15).

2. Connect two leads from one end of cord assembly


(16) to matching connectors on warning light.

3. Connect single connector side of adapter (17) to


connector (18) on vehicle side of taillight wiring.

4. Connect lead (19) to other side of adapter (17)


and then to taillight connector (20).

5. Connect cord assembly (16) to adapter (17).

6. Disconnect wiring connector for right taillight.

7. Connect cable assembly (21) to cord assembly


(16).

8. Remove bottom nut from taillight. Place circular


terminal of cable assembly (21) over threaded
shaft and install bottom nut

c. TEMPORARY REMOVAL

1. Reverse procedure in steps 6 and 7 of electrical connection to disconnect cord assembly.

2. Reverse procedure in step 1 of installation and remove warning light and mount.

3. Stow warning light and cord assembly.

4. To install warning light, perform step 1 of installation and steps 6 and 7 of electrical connection.

NOTE
Two warning lights are installed on the M60 AVLB. One light mounts at the rear on the vertical
inboard flange of the bridge structure. The second light mounts at the front on the flange of the
lifting cylinder support. The electrical connections are made at the dome light.

a. REAR INSTALLATION

NOTE
The warning light can only be installed when the bridge launcher is in the retracted position.

1. Install clamp (1), with connector pointing up, on vertical inboard flange of bridge structure (2) using three bolts (3).
Torque bolts to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

2. Install angle (4), with angle pointing to left side of vehicle, on top connection of clamp (1) using screw (5) and lock
washer (6). Torque screw to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

3. Install bracket (7), with mount pointing up and two bolts (8) pointing to center of vehicle, on left side of angle (4) using
screw (9) and lock washer (10). Torque screw to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

4. Loosen, but do not remove, two bolts (8) in bracket (7). Insert pipe (11) and torque bolts to 6 lb.-ft. (8.12 N•m).

NOTE
• Perform step 5 if Bosch (for use in USAREUR) warning light is being installed.
• Skip step 5 and perform steps 6 through 9 if installing 24-volt (American) warning light.

5. Perform steps 8 through 11 of paragraph 2-1, installation procedure, for Bosch warning light.

6. Loosen ring and remove lens from warning light, then remove three nuts and screws from warning light.

7. Align holes in plate (12) with holes in warning light and install three screws and nuts.

8. Install lens on warning light.

9. Screw plate (12) with warning light on pipe (11).

b. FRONT INSTALLATION

CAUTION
Remove warning light before
activating launcher. Failure to do so
will damage light assembly.

1. Install clamp (13) on cylinder support top flange (14)


using three bolts (15). Torque bolts to 40 lb.-ft.
(54.24 N•m).

2. Install angle (16) on top threaded hole of clamp (13)


using screw (17) and lock washer (18). Torque screw
to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

3. Install bracket (19), with mount pointing up, on angle


using screw (20) and lock washer (21). Torque screw
to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

4. Loosen, but do not remove, two bolts (22) in bracket


(19). Insert pipe (23) and torque bolts to 40 lb.-ft.
(54.24 N•m).

NOTE
• Perform step 5 if Bosch (for use
in USAREUR) warning light is
being installed.

• Skip step 5 and perform steps 6


through 9 if installing 24-volt
(American) warning light.

5. Perform steps 8 through 11 of paragraph 2-1,


installation procedure, for Bosch warning light.

6. Loosen ring and remove lens from warning light, then


remove three nuts and screws from warning light.

7. Align holes in plate (24) with holes in warning light


and install three screws and nuts.

8. Install lens on warning light.

9. Screw plate (24) with warning light on pipe (23).

c. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

1. Connect cable assembly (25) to plate (12) using


screw (26), lock washer (27), and nut (28).

2. Disconnect dome light wire (29).

3. Connect single connector side of adapter (30) to dome light wire (29).

4. Connect lead (31) to other side of adapter (30) and then to dome light connector (32).

5. Connect cable assembly (33) to adapter (30). Using fish tape, pull cable assembly through antenna pipe shield (34).

6. Connect adapter (35) to cable assembly (33).

7. Connect one lead from each cord assembly (36 and 37) to adapter (35).

8. Connect one cable assembly (38) to each cord assembly (36 and 37).

9. Connect two circular terminals on cable assembly


(38) to fastening bolt of base cover.

10. Connect cord assemblies (36 and 37) to


matching connectors on warning lights.

d. TEMPORARY REMOVAL

NOTE
Front and rear warning lights are removed in the same manner.

1. Reverse procedure in step 10 of electrical connection to disconnect cord assemblies.

2. Reverse procedure in step 1 of installation to remove warning light and mount.

3. Stow warning light and cord assemblies.

4. To install warning light, perform step 1 of installation and step 10 of electrical connection.

The warning light is Installed on the rear turret lifting eye. The electrical connection is made at
the center dome light.

a. INSTALLATION

NOTE
Attaching warning light to lifting eye may require additional support. If additional support is
required perform step 1. If not, start with step 2.

1. Use two plates (4 in. thick x 4 in. x 2 in.) (0.63 cm thick x 10.16 cm x 5.08 cm) and position them on both sides of
lifting eye (1). Place clamp (2) over plates and torque three bolts (3) to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

2. Install clamp (2), with threaded hole pointing up, on rear edge of lifting eye (1) using three bolts (3). Torque bolts to
40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

3. Install angle (4) on top threaded hole of clamp (2) using screw (5) and lock washer (6). Torque screw to 40 lb.-ft.
(54.24 N•m).

a. INSTALLATION

NOTE
Attaching warning light to lifting eye
may require additional support. If
additional support is required
perform step 1. If not, start with step
2.

1. Use two plates (Y in. thick x 4 in. x 2 in.) (0.63 cm


thick x 10.16 cm x 5.08 cm) and position them on
both sides of lifting eye (1). Install clamp (2) over
plates and torque three bolts (3) to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24
N•m).

2. Install clamp (2), with threaded hole pointing up, on


forward edge of left rear turret lifting eye (1) using
three bolts (3). Torque bolts to 40 Ib.-ft. (54.24
N•m).

3. Install angle (4) on top threaded hole of clamp (2)


using screw (5) and lock washer (6). Torque screw to
40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

4. Install bracket (7), pointing up, on angle (4) using


screw (8) and lock washer (9). Torque screw to 40
lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

5. Loosen, but do not remove, two bolts (10) In bracket


(7). Insert pipe (11) and tighten bolts to 6 lb.-ft.
(8.12 N•m).

NOTE
• Perform step 6 if Bosch (for use in USAREUR) warning light is being installed.

• Skip step 6 and perform steps 7 through 10 if installing 24-volt (American) warning light.

6. Perform steps 8 through 11 of paragraph 2-1, installation procedure, for Bosch warning light.

7. Loosen ring and remove lens from warning light, then remove three nuts and screws from warning ',,-.

8. Align holes in plate (12) with hole in warning light and install three screws and nuts.

9. Install lens to warning light.

10. Screw plate (12) with warning light on pipe (11).

b. ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

1. Connect cable assembly (13) to plate (12) using screw (14), lock washer (15), and nut (16).

2. Connect two leads from cord assembly (17) to matching connectors on warning light.

3. Disconnect wiring connector (18) for cab warning flasher at rear of flasher.

4. Connect single connector side of adapter (19) to connector (20) on vehicle side of flasher wiring.

5. Connect lead (21) to other side of adapter (19) and flasher connector (18).

6. Connect cord assembly (17) to adapter (19).

7. Connect cable assembly (22) to cord assembly (17).

8. Remove flasher mounting nut. Place circular terminal on cable assembly (22) over threaded shaft and install
mounting nut.

c. TEMPORARY REMOVAL

1. Reverse procedure in steps 6 and 7 of electrical connection to disconnect cord assembly.

2. Reverse procedure in step 1 or 2 of installation to remove warning light and mount.

3. Stow warning light and cord assembly.

4. To install warning light, perform steps 1 or 2 of installation or steps 6 and 7 of electrical connection.

a. INSTALLATION

1. Install clamp (1), with two hole side facing up, on right rear flange (2) of engine compartment using three bolts (3).
Torque bolts to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

2. Install angle (4) on rear connection on clamp (1) using screw (5) and lock washer (6). Torque screw to 40 Ib.-ft.
(54.24 N•m).

3. Install bracket (7), pointing up, on angle (4) using screw (8) and lock washer (9). Torque screw to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24
N•m).

4. Loosen, but do not remove, two bolts (10) in bracket (7). Insert pipe (11) and torque bolts to 6 lb.-ft. (8.12 N-m).

5. Screw coupling (12) onto pipe (13). Screw coupling and pipe onto mounted pipe (11).

1. Reverse procedure in steps 6 and 7 of electrical connection to disconnect cord assembly.

2. Reverse procedure in step 1 of installation to remove warning light and mount.

3. Stow warning light and cord assembly.

4. To install warning light, perform step 1 of installation and steps 6 and 7 of electrical connection.

1. Install clamp (1), with connecting points facing


forward and two hole side facing up, on launcher
radio antenna mount (2) using three bolts (3).
Torque bolts to 40 lb.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

2. Install angle (4), with angle pointing to right of


vehicle, on front connection of clamp (1) using screw
(5) and lock washer (6). Torque screw to 40 lb.-ft.
(54.24 N•m).

3. Install bracket (7), pointing up, on angle using screw


(8) and lock washer (9). Torque screw to 40 lb.-ft.
(54.24 N•m).

4. Loosen, but do not remove, two bolts (10) in bracket


(7). Insert pipe (11) and torque bolts to 6 lb.-ft. (8.12
N•m).

3. Install bracket (7), with two bolts (19) pointing toward


center of vehicle and mount pointing up, on angle (4)
using screw (20) and lock washer (21). Torque screw
to 40 Ib.-ft. (54.24 N•m).

4. Loosen, but do not remove, two bolts (19) in bracket


(7). Insert pipe (11) and torque bolts to 6 lb.-ft. (8.12
N•m).

NOTE

20. Secure fabricated wires to light wiring harness


and radio antenna cables using electrical
tiedown straps.

(h) Connect terminal ring side of wire with electrical contact (6) to positive (+) post of connector (7) with screw.

(i) Install cover (8) on connector (7) with six screws (9).
