Write a three paragraph essay describing the culture of the ethnic groups featured in the
episode 3 of UCSP. Your essay should have an engaging introduction, supporting paragraphs
and brief conclusion.
To show you how culture varies, from Subic, Zambales, the Aeta Sambal, despite of the huge
change in different aspects, their culture never changed and was never forgotten. The most
remarkable aspects I have noticed associated with the ethic group, Aeta Sambal, is that they
live in the forest which makes them a forest-dwellers. Living in such an environment, they were
taught how to survive to live in the forest without anything at all, which I found fascinating.
They live as if they were one with the trees, animals and the nature itself. On one hand, the
Aetas' culture were most likely to revolve around the world of survival in the wild. On the other
hand, the ethnic group, Itneg or Tingyans from Penarrubia, Abra resorts to their traditional
religious practices. Based on my own view from the videos, the Tingyans most interesting
features is that they give importance to sacrifices or rituals. They believe that these rituals is a
connection that would connect them to the world of Anito and Diwata. And one of the most
important rituals the Tingyans do is the Pīnáing or to sacrifice Pīnáing. The ceremony or offering
and also what they called Rituals gives me the idea that Tingyans believe in Supernatural
phenomenon and beings. While in Kiangan, Ifugao they give their utmost importance or care to
their land and their crops. But what amazed me the most is their idealistic eye-opening
traditional culture. They have this customs or culture where when one become wealthy, or
what they called Kadangyan, they will be responsible or obligated to provide help to those who
aren't well-off or those who are in need of it. Additionally, every improvements or
developments in their society would be a reason for them to celebrate, where everyone in the
community would join the celebration of one's family achievement. To make it short, one's
achievement is equivalent to everyone's achievements or community celebration.
Culture may serve as an identity of ethnicity of an individual as also it differs from society to
society. Cultural identity is the appellation of this identity. And to point out as to why having
knowledge of other's cultures is important, I will leave here a quotation. As a blogger points out
in "CultureShocks Blog", "..., so to understand their culture is to understand them". Meaning, if
you understand one's culture you will know their ethnicity. Notwithstanding its characteristic
worth, culture gives significant social and financial advantages.
