Correct! illnesses and injury.

D. Discussion

Now class, have you heard the saying “Health is

Wealth?”
Yes Ma’am!
What do you mean by that?

Yes, correct!  It means that one's health is the greatest wealth.

It is a state of well-being, free from disease or

diseases, both physical and mental is indeed a
wealth.

Now, in the Concepts of Holistic Health in the

1946 preamble to the constitution of the World
Health Organization (WHO) define health as
follows:

 Health defined as the state of complete

physical, mental, and social well-being,
and not merely the absence of disease or
infirmity.

Holistic Health means, kindly read students

It is a form of healing that looks at the whole
person: body, mind, and spirit.
The term “holistic” comes from the Greek word
holos, which means “WHOLE”.

Jan Smuts coined the term holism in 1926 as a

way of viewing life as a whole and the whole
body as “greater than the sum of its parts”. All
physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects
of a human being are connected for the person
to reach his or her full potential. Aside from being
interconnected with one another, these aspects
are also constantly interacting with the person’s
surroundings.

So, health and wellness are closely related to

each other. To achieve holistic health, you must
have complete wellness.

There are six interrelated dimensions of holistic

health. The first dimension is; class, kindly read

1. Physical Health- includes the body’s

physical characteristics such as body size,
shape, sensory skills, functionality, and
physical fitness, resistance against
diseases and disorders, and period
recovery. It also includes the ability to
perform normal tasks such as bending
over, getting up, and writing.

So, what can we do to achieve optimal physical

health? Eat well, perform regular exercise, get enough
rest and sleep, and avoid harmful habits.

Very good!

Now, the second dimension is;

2. Mental/Intellectual Health- refers to your
ability to think clearly, questions and
analyze critically, and reason logically.
Mental/intellectual health involves the
use of the mind to cope with life’s
challenges, learn from mistakes, and
make sound and responsible decisions.

A person who has a healthy mind enjoys learning

and seeks out new challenges and experiences. Engage in activities that stimulate the brain, eat

Correct!

The third dimension is;

3. Emotional Health- involves the ability to
express appropriate feelings and exert
control when necessary.
What can you do to manage your emotions and
keep your emotional wellness? Learning how to manage our emotions and
keeping a close attention to our feelings,
thoughts, and behavior will result us into a
healthy emotional wellness.
Well said!

The fourth dimension is;

4. Spiritual Health- pertains to the person’s
sense of purpose and meaning in life.
This aspect is guided by principles, beliefs or
values that give meaning to a person’s life.

Again, what will be our guide to keep our spiritual

health? Our beliefs and values will guide our actions and
words, and it will make us accept the views and
opinions of others and also makes us give time
for prayer and meditation.
Very good!

The fifth dimension is;

5. Interpersonal or Social Health- is the
ability to interact and communicate with
other people in different social situations.
So, these are the people who has satisfying
relationships with his or her family members,
friends, classmates, and neighbors indicates that
he or she has a good social health.

What should we do to be socially healthy?

Interact with other in a good way so we can have
harmony with others and their environment.
Correct!

Now, the last dimension is;

6. Environmental Health- involves the place
where the person lives, works, or plays.
The environment plays a significant
impact on the person’s health, whether
in a positive or negative way.
Okay, so when these dimensions are well-
balanced and well developed, they can support
the person’s active lifestyle.
Alright! So people who find ways to improve their
health behaviors move to the right side of the It is a graphical illustration of a wellbeing concept

wellbeing includes mental and emotional health,
as well as the presence or absence of illness.

Illness-wellness Continuum is;

Okay, now those who do nothing or do very little

to maintain their health or engage in health risk
behaviors may lead to a path of poor health,
illness, or premature death or disability. These
people move to the left side of the continuum.

another to achieve wellness.

F. Generalization

The six dimension of wellness affect one another.

Achieving wellness also means achieving a high-
level of well-being based on the person’s unique
abilities. To attain holistic well-being you must
work not only on one aspect of your health, but
rather on your overall aspects. This will result in a
balanced integration among all your health
dimensions.
