VCL ASSIGNMENT 2

UNIVERSAL INNER STRUCTURE

CH. Udaysai Shanmukha
IInd MBA 20458

1. Universal Inner Structure of Good Leaders and how it relates to the topics
covered in the VCL course.

The universal inner structure covers the following essential aspects.

1) Character The upper-half

2) Courage to decide
3) Willpower to persist
4) Initiative to be a self-starter
5) Knowledge- The lower-half
6) Knowledge of the job
7) Ability to deal with people
8) Knowledge of self
9) Selflessness based on an idea or vision

Selflessness
The reality about this great virtue is that selfishness is human, and selflessness is divine. It is
the wellspring of all that is good and moral in a person. On the other hand, selflessness is not
the same as being a doormat, as some people imagine.

The higher the vision, the greater the degree of selflessness and, as a result, the greater the
leadership potential. Consciousness is at the heart of the virtue of selflessness. Truth, proper
conduct, Love, Equanimity, Non-Injury, and Truth are all components of selflessness.

Courage

Making decisions is the most critical act of courage for a leader. A choice must be taken before
any action can begin. They are making a decision that entails taking responsibility for one's
success or failure, which is why so many people postpone. The majority of decisions are made
in an environment of ambiguity, and one must have the fortitude to face the outcome.

A courageous person will not lie. Brave people anticipate high levels of achievement. It takes
courage to take action and punish. It takes a lot of bravery to reject or say no. Both moral and
physical courage is required of a leader.
Will Power

Hundreds of challenges develop during the implementation of every plan, Program, or project.
When people are required to carry out the plan, failures arise. A good leader must have the
determination to persevere in the face of failures and obstacles. You'll be well on your way to
becoming a significant leader if you have the power of will and the flexibility of thought.

Initiative

Fear of making a mistake dampens initiative. The habit of preparation can help you create the
industry. The pattern that fixes a person's vision far above their particular task is the most potent
source of the initiative.

Knowledge of the Job

Knowledge is a powerful tool. Leaders develop best when their field of work matches their
abilities and interests. Leaders should foster the ability to learn from others' expertise and
experience from an early age. In a leader's chosen line of work, the ultimate purpose of
knowledge is to develop intuition.

Ability to deal with People

Dealing with People is an essential part of the leadership process. Both success and failure can
bring out the best in people. People of diverse levels should be able to be dealt with. To deal
with people, one must be able to comprehend their nature. In the organisational hierarchy,
human ties are the most significant factor. Communication is crucial when dealing with
individuals. It entails listening as well as expressing oneself.

Knowledge of Self

The interaction between the leader and the followers is referred to as leadership. Every person
has a sound and noble core. However, it is sadly covered in varied layers of egotism, want,
greed, rage, and envy. We are so engrossed in these layers that we refuse to acknowledge that
we may have any flaws. Self-awareness leads to a better understanding of others, necessary for
happy interpersonal connections.

The Universal Inner Structure can be considered a blueprint for the entire course, outlining
issues like head vs heart, mind and emotion, universal leadership model, ethics, etc. The
courage and selflessness and how he deals with people determine a person's ethics. Head vs
Heart is based on the concept of the ability to deal with people. Universal Inner Structure, in
my opinion, is like an overall framework that creates a human being with natural leadership
abilities.
2. Compare and contrast the Inner Structure with the Universal Model of
Leadership developed by Anderson and Adams.
Universal Model of Leadership

We need to speed up the process of developing leaders who can handle the complexities of
today's business climate. At the very least, development must keep up with the rate of change
and increasing complexity. This is the Leadership Agenda that most organisations are dealing
with. The current methods for producing leaders are inadequate to meet this task. The discipline
of leadership development is a haphazard assemblage of excellent theory and research, but it
is entirely unconnected. As a result, a fragmented strategy is taken, which has a terrible track
record.

We established a Universal Model of Leadership after 30 years of effort to unite the fragmented
field of leadership theory and research. It's a complex and elegant model to take on the difficult
task of training future leaders.

Universal Inner Structure

The universal inner structure covers the following essential aspects.

1) Character The upper-half

2) Courage to decide
3) Willpower to persist
4) Initiative to be a self-starter
5) Knowledge- The lower-half
6) Knowledge of the job
7) Ability to deal with people
8) Knowledge of self
9) Selflessness based on an idea or vision
It's a well-balanced structure in which, as the arrows show, each component of character and
knowledge complements the others. Every leader's equilibrium is different. However, it's
important to remember that balance requires consistency and understanding. A man's
indecisiveness is caused by his lack of character more than his education. A leader's potential
is limited by their nature, which is not backed up by expertise. A leader’s effectiveness is
determined by the strength and balance of this structure.

This stability is linked to his self-assurance. Self-assurance allows a leader to be proactive, "we
are in charge of our own life." Our actions are determined by our choices, not by our
circumstances. Feelings can be subordinated to values. We have the initiative and
accountability to get things done." Anyone who wants to maximise their leadership potential
should study this structure attentively.

The universal structure focuses on a business leader’s characteristics to guide people toward a
common objective. On the other hand, inner structure focuses on the traits that enable a person
to be a true leader, regardless of position, circumstance, or stage of life. The internal system is
what makes him entire, perfect, and complete. It evokes the individual's conscience. The
universal model focuses on interacting with people, but the inner structure concentrates on the
individual's inner self to improve the person's inherent tendency to lead others.
