SCHOOLS NO LONGER PREPARE YOUNG

PEOPLE FOR THE REAL WORLD

Andreas Buchanan 28/02/2019
Have you asked yourself how relevant to the real world
is the History that we still study at school? Some of my
friends learned about the World Wars whereas others
studied the Industrial Revolution, none of which
proved very useful to any of us when we left school.
Wouldn’t it be better if there were more school

subjects that were relevant to the real world we live
in? Subjects such as finance and how to balance a
household budget.

In 2017, a Stem Trust report found that some students
had never carried out their own experiments in

Science, relying instead on passively watching the
teacher conduct the experiment and noting down what
happened. Members of the Stem Trust welcomed the
idea of more practical work in Science, with more field

trips to museums, laboratories and research centres.
According to major computer companies such as
Apple and Microsoft, more people who know how
to code will be needed in the future, so information
all subject
technology needs to be integrated across
areas, and not just taught as a separate subject in a
computer laboratory once per week.
Considering all this, isn’t it time that the education
ministry had a complete rethink about what students
should be learning in schools nowadays?

This is the only information learners have, but they would probably add the website address
if this article were online and put the date they accessed the article.
