Background of the Capstone Project
A. Related Personal Experience
Years have passed by but the fire incidents are continuously increasing. Mainly the
reason is by accident or even because of recklessness. Where this usually begins at the
kitchen, from unattended gas stove or carelessness in using electrical connections for long
hours which resulted in total disregard of fire safety measures until it turns into rages of fire.
Stated in the article written by the Philippine News Agency, that the number of fire incidents in
the first two months of this year rose by almost thirteen percent (13%) as compared to the
previous year, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said. In some cases, even the authorities in
charge (firefighters) cannot put out the fire.
It makes use of a familiar technology and takes advantage of SMS capabilities in order
to achieve its proposed goal effectively. This system work would save cost, provide reliable
services, and alert nearest fire department, thereby reducing (or even eradicating) loss of lives
and property. Its applications range from the common household setting even to large industrial
environments, posing large scalability. This technology will ensure the safety of life and
properties of every family in a community
B. Related Literature
It can bring a significant threat to human life and property. Fire hazard can be greatly
reduced if early warning of the fire can be detected. Consequently, the framework with advance
innovation is required so this kind of disaster can be avoided. Ismail, W. H. et. Al (2016) noted
the motivation behind this framework is to furnish home security with the smoke sensor gadget,
which ready to identify smoke and give caution to clients by informing the clients by means of
SMS (Short Informing Framework) along with an alert.
This kind of devices seeks communication issue where at the same time resolve
noninterchangeable effect of this unpredictable phenomena. The most perfect way
to diminish these misfortunes is to reply to the crisis circumstance as fast as conceivable. So,
there comes the need of standalone independent fire discovery frameworks (Asif, O et. Al
2014). Fire Alarm and Detection System using SMS is a cost effective and medium coverage
method of detecting, alerting and controlling fire and fire related incidents in a residential setting
or industrial environment (Adeniyi et. al, 2018).

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE CAPSTONE PROJECT

One of the disasters that could bring destructive to people is fire outbreak, and it is sad
to think that most of the time, firefighters arrive at their quickest response at the destination but
still the fire is already big and difficult to extinguish. The purpose of this capstone is to alert or
warn the owner or person live in the house by means of creating a smoke detection system, a
fire-protection device that triggers alarm once it detects smoke and will notify the mobile phone
of household owner via SMS whether they are. In this way the household owners will be aware
and will take immediate action. The prototype device is supplied with a specialized SIM card as
part of this project. The device aims to ensure the safety of the family and property. This study
will benefit the city of Tayabas, specifically in Barangay San Isidro zone-1 where fire outbreak is
more often to happen there.

The methodologies described in this paper rely on heavily on the incorporation of web
science into an embedded system. This contains information about the materials, methods, and
tools used in the project’s development. The study used developmental research designs and
environmental scanning. Developmental research design are techniques used in lifespan
development research in particular. Environment scanning entails examining data from the
external and internal environments in order to identify forces for change, which are frequently
manifested as problems, potential problems, or opportunities. The result of developmental
research design and environment scan has been used as the basis for the project development.
OBSTACLE FEASIBILITY
 Prototype implementation failure  Prevent fire outbreak
 Delayed notification of the system to  Will prevent lost of property and lives
