Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Setting of Standards

Good Morning, class! How are you

doing? Good Morning, teacher. We are doing fine
today. How about you?
Good to hear then. I’m doing fine as
well because you are here today.

But before going further, let us

observe the following rules we have set
for this class. Can you recall all of them? Pupils will answer the following:
1. Listen carefully
2. Act with proper behavior
3. Raise your right hand if you have any
question or you want to answer my
question.

Rules are rules therefore we have to

follow them, do you understand class?
Yes, we do!
2. Drill

This morning class, we are going to

play a game called “Find My Group
Partner”. Are you familiar with this game? Not yet, teacher

Okay, so I will divide the class into six

groups. Then, you will choose one
representative in each group serves as
your leader.

I will give one word problem to each

group, you are going to solve it within the
group. Then, you are going to choose
your answer on the choices labelled with
a particular Animal Sound. All members
of the group should act the particular
sound in order to find your group partner.
The groups who have the same sound
will be partners. Reminder, if your answer
is wrong, in that case you will not be able
to find your group partner then you have
to solve it again.
Am I clear? Yes, teacher!

2. Review

This time, let us talk about our lesson

yesterday. Anyone in the class who
remembers our previous topic? Yes, ___? Find the Base when the Percentage and
Rate are Given.

Very good!

We will have another game. I have

here a ball. When I am going to turn on
the music, you are going to pass the ball.
If the music is turned off, the one who is
holding the ball will answer the following
questions from the word problem on the
TV screen.
Am I clear? Yes, teacher
Are you ready? Yes, we are!

Questions:
1. What is asked in the problem?
2. What is the first given?
3. What is the 2nd given?
4. What is the solution?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation

Class, I want you to pay attention to

our next activity. Now, I need four (Four pupils are volunteering)
volunteers from you.
As you can see on the floor, I drew four
lines for four volunteers. You may
proceed to your designated line.

All you have to do is to follow Yes, teacher

directions that I am going to make. Is that
clear?

Teacher’s Instructions:
- Move 2 steps forward.
- Move 1 step backward.
- Move 1 step forward.
- Move 2 steps forward.
- Move 4 steps backward.

Okay, very Good! Thank you for

participating pupils. Give them a round of Four of them are following your
applause. instructions.
Now, what have you observed? When you say to step backward or
forward within the line you drew they did
it.

To be able to follow directions is an

Very Good! Why do you think it is indication of good comprehension.
important to follow directions?
It can draw the difference between
success and failure in a task.

That’s great! You have an amazing

ideas class.
That is correct you can apply it to
your exams and quizzes as well. If you
want to receive good grades you have to
follow directions in completing home Yes, teacher
works and quizzes.
Do you get me class?
2. Presentation

Now, I have prepared a 4x4 bingo card

from a piece of paper using numbers from
this set:
(The teacher will show it on a TV screen)
-8, 12, 46, 25, -9, 0, -10, 8, 9, -11
-25, 30, 26, 15, -14, 1, -12, 7, -7, 10

I am going to ask you questions then

you have to answer it using your BINGO
card. Just mark the number with a pen. Crystal clear teacher.
The pupil who can completely fill first will
declare as a winner.
Is that clear? The game is starting…..

1. buried 8ft under the ground (-8)

2. 30 units right of -15 (15)
3. 50÷5= (10)
4. 9x7= (63)

BINGO CARD CONTAINS:

78 8 0 38
45 10 10 -8
1 81 15 4
32 2 72 63

Based on our activity class, what do

you think our topic for today? Anyone? Is it about the lines?

Very Good! Any other? Is it related to the line and numbers?

Very Good! You are almost there. Is it about integers teacher?

Very Good!

Now, we are going to tackle about

Visualizing Integers in their Order on a
Number Line.
4. Discussion

Now, let us go back to your BINGO

activity. As you can see there are different
numbers right? Yes, teacher

What have you observed to these

numbers? There are positive and negative numbers.

Yes, Very Good!

Did you know class that these are

Integers? Are all numbers are integers teacher?

All natural numbers are integers however,

Decimals and Fractional numbers are not
integers.

Now, do you have any idea what are

integers? (Nobody answers)

Integer is a Latin word which means

‘whole’ or ‘intact’. Integers include all
whole numbers and negative numbers. It
is a number with no decimal or fractional
part and it includes negative and positive
numbers, including zero.

Class, can you give me examples of

integers? 4, -6, 8, 2, 4, 6

Wow, Amazing! That is correct. Those are

examples of integers.

Let us differentiate Positive Numbers,

Negative Numbers and Zero.

- Positive Number: A number is

positive if it is greater than zero.
Example: 1, 2, 3, 4….
- Negative Numbers: A number is
negative if it is less than zero.
Example: -1, -2, -3 ,…
- Zero is defined a neither a
negative number nor a positive
number. It is a whole number.
Do you get me class?
Yes, teacher
Now, take a look at to this on the board.
What is this?
A line
When I put number here, what do you call
it now?

Is it number line?
1 2

Yes, correct!

Number line is the horizontal straight line

in which the integers are placed in equal
intervals.
This line extends indefinitely at both
sides.
Do you get it?

What should I put at the center of a 0 teacher

number line?
Yes, zero

Now, which part should we place the

positive numbers? To the right.

How about the negative? To the left.

Yes, very good! So this will be the result

Can you read it altogether? (Pupils are reading including the sign)

Let us see, how you are going to use

number line with these example.

- 7 units to the left of -7 -14

Very Good.
How about this one.
- 5 units to the right of 0 -5
Yes, teacher
Do you get it now class?

There is another form of questioning also

using a number line.

I have here an example.

Carla spent ₱ 23.00. Now, what is the 23 teacher
integer for this?

Thank you for trying. But, the integer here How come teacher?
-23.

From the word, spent. Is it negative or Negative

positive?

Yes, so the answer will be -23. Yes, teacher

Am I clear?

How about this one. Is it positive 60 teacher?

Princess saved ₱ 60.00.

Yes, the answer is 60. We used saved

here so, Princess still have ₱60.00. Yes, teacher
Do you understand now?

Very Good!

What do you think the purpose of Number To easily identify whole numbers of
Line? integers teacher.

Do you think if we did not use the number

line, you can easily identify the opposite I think we will find it difficult.
sign of numbers?

Okay, that is why the number line is very

helpful in identifying whole numbers or
integers especially in the opposite sign of
numbers. Crystal clear!
Are we all clear? Teacher if we use peso sign, is it still an
Do you have any questions? integer number?

Very good question. Yes, numbers with

peso sign or even with units are also
integers because those are still whole
numbers.
Yes, teacher
Do you get me?
Very Good!
5. Generalization
Integers include all whole numbers and
What are integers? negative numbers. It is a number with no
decimal or fractional part and it includes
negative and positive numbers, including
zero.

How does the number line help you in

understanding /visualizing integers? Number line helped us to visualize
integers by identifying whole numbers
especially when it is positive or negative.

Good Job!

6. Application

Now, we are going to have our next

activity.
I will divide the class into six groups,
each group will answer the following
questions. Then, you will make a number
line base on your answers. Don’t forget to
put an arrow and label it with a letter to
identify what question you answered.
The group who can finish first will declare
as a winner.
Are we all clear? Yes, teacher!

a. 5 units right of 6
b. 8 units of -1 The pupils are answering...
c. 6 units right of -2
d. 10 units left of 4

IV. ASSESSMENT

Get ½ crosswise and a pencil.

A. Represent each of the ff quantities by

appropriate integer.
1. 600 m above the ground 1. +600
2. lost 15 points 2. -15
3. saved ₱ 20.00 3. + ₱ 20.00
4. spent ₱ 53.00 4. - ₱ 53.00
5. withdrawal of ₱ 1, 500.00 5. - ₱ 1, 500.00

B. Use a number line to identify the points

describe.
1. 3 units to the right of 1 1. 4
2. 5 units to the left of 0 2. -5
3. 3 units to the right of +6 3. +9
4. 2 units to the left of -7 4. -9
5. 12 units to the right of -5 5. 7

V. ASSIGNMENT

Directions: Illustrate the following in the

number line.
1. The set of integers greater than -3 and
1. -2, -1, 0, 1
less than 2.
2. -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4,
2. The set of integers greater than -5 and
3. -6, -5, -4, -3, -2, -1
less than 5
4. 6, 7
3. The set of integers less than 0 and
5. -9, -8, 7, -6, -5, -4
greater than -7.
4. The set of integers less than 8 and
greater than 5.
5. The set of integers less than -3 and
greater than -10.
