Lesson Proper

I. Greeting/Warm-up/Motivation (5 minutes)

Teacher will give each students a heart-shaped paper and say some
words to the class. If the words or phrase that the teacher will say is not
good, they will crumple the heart and if its not, they will try to
straighten or flatten the shape.
(Explain afterwards the magic of each words and what they do to
the person each time we say good and bad words)

II. Lesson Presentation: (10 minutes) with Supported practice

Tell students that there are some words we say that make our actions
and words more polite and beautiful. ‘Thank you’ is one such magic
word.
Brainstorm, asking them if they know of any other magic word such
as;

 Please
 Thank you
 You are welcome.
 Sorry
 Excuse me

Activity 1

 Prepare one student to do a mime with you.


 You will give her/him a toy and she/he will smile.
 Ask the class what she/he should say after receiving a present.
 If they don`t know, tell them to say ‘Thank you’ and then you say
‘you are welcome’.
 Pass the toy around the class, asking each child who receives it
will say ‘Thank you’, and the giver should say ‘You are welcome’

Activity 2

 . Now ask one student to bump into another student (not so hard)
and then ask the class what she/he should say (Sorry).
 Ask the class to practice by repeating the word after putting a book
on their friend`s desk by mistake.
 Ask them to tell some other situations where two word can be
used.
Activity 3

 Invite two students in front of the class.


 Start talking with one student, while the other students will wait to
say something to you.
 Ask class what word he/she should use to interrupt.
 After taking their feedback tell them where they should use the
magic word “Excuse me”

Activity 4

 Ask them if we want to make a request what word do we use / say.


 After taking their feedback, tell them that “please” is a polite word
or magic word, we can use this word in different situations, such
as; Model the use of these words.
 Remind students to use them so it becomes a habit.
 Remind them that these expressions are not just for the classroom
but also for the playground and even to be used at home.
 Announce a ‘Please Day’ or a ‘Thank you Day’, when they have to
be super-careful in using the words.
 Ask them to count how many times they said and heard the word
on that day.
 Don`t forget to praise them for using the magic words

Supported Practice: Yes, you can. / No, you


can’t.
 Provide blank speech bubbles and cartoon strips of a particular
situation when they need to say these magic words. Yes, you may. No, you
may not.
Group Activity (Collaborative Activity)10 minutes

There will be a box full of strips of paper with different scenarios. They need to
show and express the appropriate polite words to use in each scenario. Give
them five-7 minutes to prepare, then present their skits for the class.

1. Your grandmother gives you a puppy for your birthday. (dog stuff toy)
2. You are with your family having dinner. You want someone to pass you the
salt. Which is far end of the table. (salt)
3. You burp or sneeze in the middle of the conversation with your teacher.
4. You accidentally step on someone’s toe.
5. You see your classmate trip and fall.
6. Your mom helps you with your homework.
7. You have to squeeze between two people having a conversation, in order to
get to your cubby or locker.

Follow Up Activity for the whole class: (5 minutes)

Make a gratitude jar or good manner jar. Each time the kids make a good
manner, they’ll put a heart inside the jar with the good things that they did. At
the end of the semester or month, the teacher can read 10 hearts to the class so
they’ll be inspired to continue on whatever they’re doing and be a motivation
for others to do the same.

II. Assessment (5 minutes)

Write and share your unforgettable experience when someone did something good to you or used good
manners/magic words. What did you feel?

III. Generalization of the Topic


Ask this question to students as a reflection.
Why do we need to show good manners and use magic words every day?
