What is Employee Onboarding?
"Onboarding" refers to the processes in which
new hires are integrated into the organization.

It includes activities that allow new employees to

complete an initial new-hire orientation process,
as well as learn about the organization and its
structure, culture, vision, mission and values.
What is Pre-boarding
‘pre-boarding’ refers to whatever process your
company has up and running when the candidate

Post Covid Onboarding

What Has Changed In Terms Of Onboarding Since The Pandemic?

Post hiring, conventional onboarding methods are replaced by virtual

onboarding and engagement strategies which are riding on digitalisation.
Organisations have also adopted AI/chat bot driven processes to improve
their efficiency.

Additionally, hiring processes are more inclusive and include various

elements such as flexibility in work schedule, developing skills, along with
building an attitude and ability among employees towards crisis
management. This way, employees are enabled to contribute positively
towards the business and reinforce their roles in the organisation.

What is Offboarding?

Offboarding is a process that completes the end of a professional

relationship between an employee and the company they work for.

Whereas onboarding provides a smooth transition into the company,

offboarding provides a smooth transition out of the company.

For the HR department, this means preparing all the paperwork,

transferring responsibilities or looking for replacements, deactivating
accounts and access rights, conducting exit interviews, and other
necessary final actions.

Case Study on Onboarding

Company XYZ is a small retail business that sells organic and natural skincare
products. They have a team of 10 employees and have been in business for
over 5 years. As the company started to grow, they noticed that their
onboarding process was not consistent and often left new hires feeling
overwhelmed.

To address this issue, the HR team decided to revamp their onboarding

process to create a more structured and organized experience for new hires.
Here are some of the changes they made:

Pre-onboarding: The HR team started to send a welcome email to new hires

before their start date. The email included information about the company
culture, dress code, and what to expect on their first day.

Buddy system: Each new hire was assigned a "buddy" or mentor within their
department. The buddy was responsible for helping the new hire get
acquainted with the company, providing a tour of the facilities, and answering
any questions.

Training and orientation: The company created a comprehensive training and

orientation program for new hires. The program included an introduction to
the company's products and services, customer service training, and a review
of company policies and procedures.

Check-ins: The HR team implemented a 30-day check-in to ensure that new

hires were settling in well and had all the necessary resources and support
they needed.

As a result of these changes, Company XYZ saw an increase in employee

retention and job satisfaction. New hires felt more welcomed and supported,
and were able to start contributing to the company more quickly.
Additionally, the HR team received positive feedback from new hires, who
appreciated the thoughtful and comprehensive onboarding process.
