OBJECTIVES:

01 To be able to learn and und erstand about th e d iffe r ent m od e rn

building technique s use d in construction nowadays.

02 To be able to demonstrate advantages and benefits of using the

modern techniques in construction

03 To be able to site the relevance of using modern building techniques

in organization and management.
MODERN
BUILDING
CONSTRUCTION
TECHNIQUES
3D VOLUMETRIC
01 CONSTRUCTION
3D VOLUMETRIC CONSTRUCTION

• It is a modular construction technology where 3D UNITS are

produced in controlled factory settings using needful
construction and building materials.
• Finished units are transported to site in various modules,
basic structural blocks or final touched up units with all
amenities installed, for assembly Blocks can be erected
rapidly at site and properties of concrete like fire retardant
sound resistivi ty, thermal mass, etc. are retained
3D VOLUMETRIC CONSTRUCTION

Benefits

- reduces w orking time

- Units can be constructed regardless of the w eather

outside

- provides employees a safer and more comfortable

working condition that can help improve productivity and
produces a higher quality product
3D VOLUMETRIC CONSTRUCTION
02 PRECAST FLAT
PANEL MODULES
PRECAST FLAT PANEL MODULES

• these are primarily WALL and FLOOR modules which

are manufact ur ed away from actual site and then
transported to site for erection. Load bearing
compon en ts like decorative cladding and insulation
panels can also be produced.
• Also called cross -wall construction, the technology
has gained moment um due to seamles s adherence to
specificat ion s and ease as well as swiftness of
construction.
PRECAST FLAT PANEL MODULES

Benefits

- reduces working time

- units can be constructed regardless of the weather outside

- provides employees a safer and more comfortable working

condition that can help improve productivity and produces a
higher quality product

- produces less waste

03 TUNNEL FORMWORK
SYSTEM
TUNNEL FORMWORK SYSTEM

• A tunnel formwork system is a type of formwork that

enables a builder to cast slabs and walls simultaneously
during a workday.
• Considered a contemporary method of construction
(MMC), it combines the affordability and flexibility of in -
situ constructio n with the speed, quality, and accuracy
of factory/off -site manufacturing.
TUNNEL FORMWORK SYSTEM
04 FLAT SLABBING
TECHNOLOGY
FLAT SLABBING TECHNOLOGY

• In a flat slab construction, a reinforced concrete slab is

directly supported by concrete columns without the
need for beams.
• A one - or two -sided system that targets the square slab
or supporting columns with a sheer load.
• It is a two -way reinforced structural system that
includes either drop panels or column capitals at
columns to resist heavier loads and thus permit longer
spans.
FLAT SLABBING TECHNOLOGY
05 PRECAST FOUNDATION
TECHNIQUE
PRECAST FOUNDATION TECHNIQUE

• This foundation can be built swiftly with precast

concrete units which are produced in a factory and
are high in quality quotient. Strength is imparted to
foundation -relate d building constru ct ion materials
through interconnected concrete piles.
• The technique allows constru ct ion work to progress
even in inclement weather and minimize s excavati on
activity.
PRECAST FOUNDATION TECHNIQUE
06 HYBRID CONCRETE
BUILDING TECHNIQUE
HYBRID CONCRETE BUILDING
TECHNIQUE

• This technique expedites construction

turnaround time by blending the advantages of
concrete pre - casting with the in - si tu building.
Quality improves, whereas the cost of the
construction plummets.
• Hybrid concrete structures are easy to build,
competitive in nature, and perform consistently.
HYBRID CONCRETE BUILDING
TECHNIQUE
07 THIN JOINT MASONRY
TECHNIQUE
THIN JOINT MASONRY TECHNIQUE

• Thin joint blockwork (Thin joint masonry) is a fast, clean,

accurate system for construction using autoclaved aerated
concrete (AAC) blocks of close dimensional tolerance with 2mm -
3mm mortar joints.
• Thin layer mortar is pre -mixed cement -based product that only
requires the addition of water to make an easily applied mortar.
• The benefits offered by thin layer mortars are provided by a system
with many of the characteristics of traditional blockwork
construction.
• This means that familiarity with the build process and flexibility are
also inherent in system.
THIN JOINT MASONRY TECHNIQUE
INSULATING CONCRETE
08 FORMWORK (ICF)
TECHNIQUE
INSULATING CONCRETE FORMWORK (ICF)
TECHNIQUE

• Ins ulating Concrete Formwork (ICF) systems consist of twin -

walled, expanded polystyrene panels or blocks that are quickly
built up to create formwork for walls of a building.
• This formwork is then filled with factory produced, quality
assured, ready -mixed concrete to create a robust structure.
• The expanded polystyrene blocks remain to provide high level of
thermal insulation and the concrete core provides robustness
and good levels of sound insulation.
