Card 1
1. State the four SUVAT or Kinematic equations.
(i) Sketch a velocity-time graph for the journey, include the important values on the axes?
4. A train pulls out of a station and accelerates steadily for 20 s until it reaches
8.0 m s-1. It then travels at a constant speed for 100 s, then decelerates uniformly to rest in 30 s.
(a) Draw the velocity-time graph for the journey.
(b) Calculate the acceleration and the distance travelled in each part of the journey.
5. A vehicle travelling at 6.0 m s-1 accelerates uniformly at 1.75 m s-2 for 4.5 s.
(c) Calculate the average velocity of the vehicle during the 4.5 s interval
6. A plane on a runway takes 16.2 s over a distance of 1200 m to take off from zero initial speed.
Assuming constant acceleration during take-off, calculate:
8. Fig. 1.1. shows the path of a car as it travels around a right-angled bend.
The car travels from point A to point B in 7.6s at a constant speed of 25 ms-1.
(a) Calculate the distance the car travels in 7.6 s.
(b) Sketch the diagram and show the displacement (using a vector) from A to B.
(c) Using a labelled vector triangle, calculate the magnitude and direction of the CHANGE in
velocity of the car as it moves from A to B.
10.A student drops a stone into a well and hears it hit the bottom of the well 1.8s later.
Assuming that g = 9.81 m s-2 and that the effect of air resistance is negligible, calculate:
