    SUBJECT : HUNTAHAN SA BARANGAY: OPTIMIZING BARANGAY-BASED


    NGO’S PARTICIPATION IN CHILD PROTECTION IN THE
    BARANGAY THROUGH THE BCPC

    Reference: DILG USEC Advisory dated February 26, 2024

    The National Barangay Operations Office (NBOO) will be conducting the Huntahan sa
    Barangay: Optimizing Barangay-Based NGOs’ Participation in Child Protection in the
    Barangay through the Barangay Committee for the Protection of Children (BCPC) on
    March 21, 2024 (9:00 AM to 12:00 NN) via Zoom Video Teleconference. This activity is a
    response to the result of the monitoring of the functionality of Barangay Council for the
    Protection of Children (BCPC) and feedback received by NBOO from other national
    government agencies and partner- NGOs during various inter-agency meetings stating that
    there is an urgent need to strengthen the capacity of the said committee.

    The Huntahan intends to enhance the capacity of the BCPCs and Barangay-Based NGOs in
    child protection at the barangay level. Specifically, it aims to:

    a) Orient Barangay-based NGOs/ CSOs on DILG Memorandum Circular 2021-039,


    b) Discuss the roles and responsibilities of Barangay -based NGOs in the BCPC;
    c) Explore possible areas of collaboration between the BCPC and CSOs / Barangay-
    based NGOs, and
    d) Share knowledge and good practices employed by other barangays in engaging
    CSOs/ Barangay-based NGOs in the BCPC.

    In the Huntahan, head/ representatives from the council for the protection of children of select
    LGUs will be invited to share their good practices in engaging CSOs/ Barangay-based NGOs
    in the BCPC and in fostering child protection in their respective LGUs.

    a) Punong Barangay;
    b) Barangay Kagawad sitting as Chair of the Committee on Women and Family
    c) Representatives of Barangay -based NGOs; and
    d) Other BCPC members

    Relative to this, kindly disseminate this to all Punong Barangays in your municipality. The
    participants are advised that the Zoom platform has a limited capacity, hence, we advise that
    they shall log in 30 minutes before the start of the program. If they are not accommodated,
    they can still participate through the DILG Natin Official Facebok page.
