IV. PROCEDURE
A. Drill/Reviewing previous Ask:
Lesson or presenting new
lesson What are the four steps in solving problems?
B. Establishing a purpose Direction: Rearrange the jumbled words in the flow chart to form 2 Science terms.
for the lesson
1. TURETEMEPRA

CLUE: This measures the hotness and coldness of an object.

2. YRCUREM

CLUE: This is shiny, silver-white metal, referred to as

quicksilver, and is liquid at room temperature.

C. Presenting examples/ Read and analyze the problem.

instances of the new
lesson Pertussis is a bacterial infection that's risen and affects most infant children. Kim was worried
about her son who was running a fever so she went to the Navotas hospital. At 12 noon, her son’s
temperature increased by 1.2°C from his temperature at 7:00 am. Then increase again by 0.5 °C at
5:00 pm. If his temperature at 5:00 pm was 39.8°C, what was his temperature at 7:00 am?

D. Discussing new concepts FOUR STEPS IN PROBLEM SOLVING

and practicing new skills. 1. Understand – What question is being asked?
#1 What are the given facts?

2. Plan - Plan for the correct operation/s to be used.

Select your own strategy.

Several are listed below. You may only need to use one strategy or a
combination of strategies.
 draw a picture or diagram
 make an organized list or a table
 solve a simpler related problem by finding a pattern
 check or work backward
 use logical reasoning
3. Execute/Solve
 Write the number sentence.
 Solve for the correct answer.
4. Review/Check
Reviewing your work is just as important as the first 3 steps! Before asking yourself the questions
below, reread the problem and review all
your work.
 Is my answer reasonable?
 Can I use estimation to check if my answer is reasonable?
 Is there another way to solve this problem?
 Can this problem be extended? Can I make a change to this problem to create a new one?
 I didn’t get the correct answer. What went wrong? Where did I make a mistake?
E. Discussing new concepts TRY TO DISCOVER
and practicing new skills
#2. Doctor John is treating sick people at Navotas Hospital. He used to visit patients in the morning.
He visited George ‘s Room. Dr. John examined him and got his temperature. Yesterday, George’s
temperature was 38.8°C. Upon reading the digital thermometer he found out that George’s
temperature was 37.2°C. What is the difference in George’ s body temperature?

Understand.
a. What is asked?
The difference of George’s body temperature
b. What are the given facts?
38.8°C - the temperature when George was brought to the hospital 37.2°C - George’s temperature
now

Plan
What operation/s shall we use to solve the problem?
- The temperature before is 38.8°C and the temperature now is 37.2°C.

To find the difference of George’s body temperature, we must subtract.

F. Developing Mastery Direction: Solve the given problem and show how you get your answer.
(Lead to Formative
Assessment 3) The temperature at 1:00 pm dropped by 5 degrees then it increased by 7 degrees the next hour. At
3 PM, it increased by 2 degrees more and the temperature
reached 36 degrees. What was the temperature at 1 pm?

1. Understand
a. What is asked?
b. What are the given facts?
2. Plan
What operation/s shall we use to solve the problem?
3. Execute/Solve
4. Execute and look back.

G. Finding practical Group Activity!

application of concepts 1. Divide the class in 3 group.
and skills in daily living
2. Set standards.

3. Directions: Read and analyze the problem. Use the space provided for the solution.

Group 1
At the start of the marathon, the thermometer registered a temperature of 34°C. After the
marathon, the temperature dropped by 4°C. What was the temperature after the
marathon?
Group 2
At 12:00 pm, the air temperature was 32.6°C. By 5:30 pm, it was recorded to be 21.8°C.
How much was the change in temperature?
Group 3
If the temperature at 4 o’clock in the morning is 24.5°C and becomes 29°C at 8:00 am,
what was the increase in temperature?
4. Presentation of the output.

Ask:
In today's heat that most Filipino experience, is it important to maintain body
temperature? Why?
Did your classmate who was good at vocabulary help your group to solve the problem?
how?
H. Making Generalizations How to solve routine and non-routine problems involving temperature?
and Abstraction about
the Lesson.

I. Evaluating Learning Directions: Read and understand the problem, then answer the questions that follow:
“The conference room received the afternoon sun. The room temperature was found at
36°C at 12:00 pm. The janitor turned on the air conditioner unit. After 30 minutes, the
thermometer recorded a 7.2°C decrease in temperature, and by 1:00 pm, the
thermometer recorded a 9.5°C decrease more. What was the new temperature at the
conference room?”
1.) What are the given facts in the problem?
A. 12:00pm, 36°C, 30mins, 7.2°C
B. 36°C, 7.2°C, 9.5°C
C. 9.5°C, 36°C
D. 7.2°C, 9.5°C
2.) What is asked in the problem?
A. the decrease in temperature
B. the room temperature
C. new temperature at the conference room
D. temperature recorded
3.) If you solve the problem, what operation will you use?
A. subtraction and addition
B. subtraction
C. addition
D. multiplication
4.) What is the answer to the problem?
A. 12. 3°C
B. 20.3°C
C. 19.3°C
D. 18.3°C
5.) The temperature this morning was 26.3°C, while the temperature in the afternoon
was 34.2 °C. How much hotter was the temperature in the afternoon? A. 7.9°C
B. 6.2°C
C. 8°C
D. 10°C
J. Additional Activities for Direction: Solve the given problem and show how you get your answer.
Application or
Remediation Marina has a fever at 12:00 noon, her temperature increased by 1.8 °C from her temperature at
7:00 AM. Then her temperature went down by 1.3 °C, at 5:00 PM. At 11:00 PM her temperature
rose again by 1.1 °C. If her temperature at 11:00 PM was 39.7 °C, what was her temperature at
7:00 AM?
