Installation and service manual

UV Disinfection System

Safety Precautions
Read all instructions thoroughly before installation and/or operation or
your UV sterilizer.

UV radiation is dangerous for the eyes and skin. Do not operate the UV-C
emitter outside the appliance and NEVER LOOK AT A BURNING UV LAMP.

UV bulbs have an effective life of approximately 1 year. Replace bulbs

annually to ensure continuous protection.

Installation
1. The system must be installed by qualified personnel in accordance with
local, state and federal electrical and plumbing codes and health
department rules and regulations.

2: Choose an installation location with a clean, dry environment where

temperatures will remain within the operating range of -4°F - 122°F.

3: Any sediment filters, cartridge filters, carbon blocks, pressure regulator

valves, backflow preventers and flow restrictors must be installed in the
water line prior to the UV disinfection system.

4. Fasten mounting brackets to hold unit securely in place. If installing

vertically, orient the inlet port at the bottom and the outlet at the top
with lamp power also mounted at the top.

5. Install water connections. Avoid using plastic or PVC fittings directly at

the unit as they will degrade over time from UV exposure. If using fittings
other than stainless steel, a dielectric coupler is recommended.

6. Attach the 4-prong ballast plug to UV bulb and insert bulb into quartz
sleeve and slide the black rubber plug boot over the end cap to seal the
quartz tube and prevent UV radiation exposure. Do not operate without
the plug boot properly installed.

7. Plug the ballast into the wall outlet and verify the power LED is on. If a
Red LED warning is observed at the ballast, do not turn on the water
supply until the problem has been resolved. A warning usually indicates
failure of the UV bulb.

8. Turn on the water supply and verify no leaks at the fittings. It is best
practice to completely flush the plumbing lines before using the treated
water.

Operational Guidelines

1. Prevent eye injury:, Never look directly at the light tube while device is
in operation.

2. If the device is installed vertically, inflow water from the bottom and
outflow water from the top to decrease flow velocity, so as to fortify
ultraviolet lighting effect.

3. If water demand can possibly exceed the rated flow, install a flow
restrictor (available separately) on the inlet side of the device.

4. If water pressure is above 60 PSI, add a pressure regulating valve on

the inlet side of the device to protect the quartz sleeve.

5. If used with a protective solenoid valve, connect the solenoid valve on

the inlet side of the device.

6. Every 4-6 months, visually inspect the quartz sleeve to make sure it is
clean and intact.

Maintenance

1. Turn off power, remove light tube, twist off caps on both ends and
carefully remove quartz sleeve for cleaning. After cleaning, reinstall
silicone seals on the quartz sleeve. Reinstall sleeve into the housing,
making sure the sleeve is centered before tightening and hand-tighten
the caps. Reinstall UV bulb. Turn power back on.

2. To clean sleeve, use neutral soap or citric acid. After cleaning, wipe
sleeve with ethyl alcohol before reinstalling it into stainless steel housing.

Troubleshooting

1. If visual warning (Red LED) is present at ballast, UV bulb likely needs

replacing and UV sterilization is likely no longer in effect. Take
precautions to avoid ingestion of untreated water.

2. If water is leaking at end caps, check silicone seals on quartz sleeve.

3. If moisture is detected inside the quartz sleeve, visually inspect the

sleeve. If broken or cracked, replace the quartz sleeve.

4. If leaking at inlet or outlet opening, turn water off, remove plumbing

connection, seal with Teflon tape or sealant and then reconnect. Return
to service and verify no leakage.

5. If UV lamp is not working, verify ballast power LED is on, circuit

breakers and voltage at AC receptacle. If still no power indication LED,
internal ballast fuse most likely needs to be replaced.
