INTRODUCTION
All living organisms show remarkable changes in their size,
weight and volume during their lifespan this is called growth.
It is the fundamental property of all living organisms. The mere
increase in size of a plant or a plant part may not necessarily be
due to growth. For example, a flaccid cell when absorbs water
increases in size, dry seeds when soaked in water, imbibe and
certainly increase in volume and weight a leaf in a turgid
condition increases in its area. But this increase in area or
volume cannot be considered as growth as the removal of water
will reduce their volumes or sizes. Growth is defined as a
permanent and irreversible change in the volume or size or
form of an organism accompanied by an increase in its dry
weight.
