Explore the drivers behind migration, considering factors such as
economic, political, cultural, social, and environmental influences.
General Question: Why do people move/migrate? (a minimum of
three sentences for each aspect)
Economic factors – People move or migrate to seek better job
opportunities, higher wages, environmental resources and improve their living standards. For them to have better economic prosperity or to be financially stable, people move from rural places to urban areas, or migrate to other countries with stronger economy. Because people seem to be attracted of the financial stability of other countries, it makes them want to relocate to have a better life for themselves and their families.
Political factors – People choose to migrate from their home
countries to another because of certain conflicts like discrimination, mistreatment, and lack of political rights or freedom. People tend to runaway or move because of wars, dictatorial governments, or areas with political instability in hopes of finding countries with better security/safety and quality of life.
Cultural Factors – People choose to move or migrate because
they want to be in environments where their personal identities matches and are respected or valued by those around them, especially when it comes to their believes, practices, religions and even ethnicity. Cultural migration can also involve movement from a country to another or to communities or environments where one's cultural background is respected and celebrated than discriminated and marginalized. People may also migrate or move to start a fresh and continue their family’s cultural heritage in some other places.
Social Factors – When it comes to social factors, people move or
migrate usually because of marriage, work or education purposes, and relocation of families to be closer to other relatives. For educational purposes, students migrate or move to other places or countries because they got accepted to their dream schools to study for the course that they want which can most likely lead to brain drains for some countries.
Environmental Factors – When it comes to environmental
factors, some people most likely move because of natural causes like climate change, pollution, environmental degradation and even being close to disaster risks like living near an active volcano. People, even if they do not want to move or migrate from their homes are sometimes forced to because of the dangers they might face due to their environment. People also tend to move because their place gets flooded really fast or are too hot or dry to live in and grow crops to make a living.
