Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the Electrical Installation and Maintenance Grade 9 Module on General


Requirements for Electrical Installation.

This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators from
Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its Officer-In-Charge Schools Division
Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A. Agustin in partnership with the Local
Government of Pasig through its mayor, Honorable Vico Sotto.
The writers utilized the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum using the Most
Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) while overcoming their personal, social,
and economic constraints in schooling.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

Welcome to the Electrical Installation and Maintenance 9 Module on General


Requirements for Electrical Installation. The hand is one of the most symbolized part
of the human body. It is often used to depict skill, action and purpose. Through our
hands we may learn, create and accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning
resource signifies that you as a learner is capable and empowered to successfully
achieve the relevant competencies and skills at your own pace and time. Your

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful opportunities for
guided and independent learning at your own pace and time. You will be enabled to
process the contents of the learning material while being an active learner.

Installation

The Philippine Electrical Code

The Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) is widely observed throughout the


country. The goal of PEC is to achieve an electrical fire-free environment and to
promote safety in electrical installations and the electrical standards that has to be
followed. The PEC has the force of law, the Electrical Engineer, Electrical Inspectors
and Master Electricians use the PEC as guidelines for the success of their duties.
The installation of electrical components, wiring methods and the types of
component materials is also provided. The procedures for with focus on safety
precautions in electrical operation and function: fire safety and shock protection for
installers and users.

Electrical Permits

Electrical Permit is necessary to be accomplished before starting any electrical


work, modification, repair or extension on any electrical system. The owners, lessors,
operators or tenants shall apply from government agency concerned the necessary
requirements.

Requirements for an Electrical Permit

Application for Electrical Permit (Figure 1)

An application for Electrical Permit should be accomplished, signed and


submitted by a duly registered Professional Electrical Engineer (PEE) or Registered
Master Electrician (RME).
Electrical Wiring Plans set of five (5) should be prepared bearing the
signature and seal of the responsible PEE or RME and submitted together with the
application form. Also included is the name and signature of electrician who will
take charge of installation as well as the signature of the owner or his authorized
representative.

Posting the Electrical Permit (Figure 2)

Upon receipt, the Office of the Building Official shall checked immediately
the application form and electrical wiring plan. When these are assessed the
Electrical Permit shall be issued upon payment of the corresponding electrical fees.
A copy of the Electrical Permit shall be posted at the job site until the final
inspection and certification of work done shall have been made.

Electrical Inspection

Before a preliminary and final inspection is made, an application for


inspection should be accomplished and submitted to the Office of the Building
Official. The prescribed forms for this is shown in Figures 3, 4 and 5.
A “Certificate of Inspection” should be acquired from the government agency
concerned. No electrical installation, alteration and addition shall be connected or
reconnected to any power supply or any other source of electrical energy without it.

Condemned Installation Notice (Figure 3)

Electrical inspection will be done, upon checking of the electrical installation,


the Electrical inspector will issue a Condemned Installation Notice form for any
defects that they found which must be properly corrected within a specified period
of time.

Permit for Temporary Service Connection (Figure 4)

A Permit for Temporary Electrical Installation should also be applied. The


procedure is the same as Electrical Permit. At the end of the period covered by the
certificate of inspection, the temporary installation shall be removed.

Certificate of Completion (Figure 5)

The Office of the Building Official will issue a Certificate of Completion after
all electrical work is done which has been completed in accordance with approved
plans and specifications.
