Definition
Blu-ray is an optical disc format designed to display high definition video and store large amounts of data. The format's name comes from the fact that ablue laser reads from and writes to the disc .

It comes in four different formats: BD-ROM (read only) : for reading recorded content. BD-R (recordable) : for PC data storage. BD-RW (rewritable) : for PC data storage. BD-RE (rewritable) : for HDTV (high definition

SINGLE LAYER :
- Can hold data up to 25/27 GB that means 2

hrs of HD video or about 13 hrs of standard video. DOUBLE LAYER :


- Can hold data up to 50 GB that means 4.5

hrs of HD video or more than 20 hrs of standard video.

Working
The blu ray disc overcimes dvd reading issue by

placing the data on top of a 1.1mm thick polycarbonate layer.Having the data on top prevents referigance and there for prevents readability problems.And with the recording layers siting the closer to the object lense of the reading mechanism, the problem of disc tilt is virtually eliminated.Because the data is close to the surface,a hard coating is place on the out of the disc to protected it from scrathes and finger print

The name blu ray is derived from
