Course Description
required to adopt a building system
approach compliant to the National
Building Code and its referral codes. The
students developed knowledge of
building system will also include
understanding of different types and
application of building materials and
diverse construction techniques.
Sustainability principles’ impact on the
property lifecycle, and how these will
integrate and apply to skills and
knowledge to industry based case
studies will also be examined. The course
will at least one visit to an operating
building in the locality.
Course Description
The laboratory class will focus on the
tools and techniques to create a
computer generated building model, and
applied tools for working with computer
model exploring output simulation.
Students will develop techniques looking
at both realistic and schematic
representation, and the integration of
building systems modeling as a tool to
inform and enhance the design process.
Course Outcomes
At the end of the course, the students
must be able to:
1. Identify appropriate provision of the
National Building Code and its referral
codes as these apply to buildings;

2. Codes and Regulations: Ability to design

sites, facilities, and systems that are
responsive to relevant codes and regulations,
and include the principles of life safety and
accessibility standards.
Course Outcomes
3. Technical Documentation: Ability to make
At the end of the course, the students
technically clear drawings, prepare outline
must be able to:

illustrating and identifying the assembly of
materials, systems, and components
appropriate for a building design.
4. Building Envelop System and Assemblies:
Understanding of the basic principles involve
in the appropriate selection and application of
building envelop systems relative to
fundamental performance, easthetics,
moisture transfer, durability, and energy and
material resources.
Course Outcomes
At the end of the course, the students
must be able to:
5. Building Materials and Assemblies:
Understanding of the basic principles used in
the appropriate selection of interior and
exterior construction materials, finishes,
products, components and assemblies based
on their inherent performance, including
environment impact and reuse.
Course Outcomes
At the end of the course, the students
must be able to:
6. Building Service Systems: Understanding of
the basic principles and appropriate
application and performance of building
service systems, including lighting,
mechanical, plumbing, electrical,
communication, vertical transportation,
security, and fire protection systems.
7. Financial Consideration: Understanding of
the fundamentals of building costs, which
must include life cycle costs.

LABORATORY:
techniques to create a computer generated
building model, and apply tools for working with
computer model exploring output and
simulation. In this course, students are taught
on how to apply their knowledge of building
systems such as architectural design, civil
works, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire
protection (MEPF), as well as building materials
and construction method by creating a model
using computer programs such as AutoCAD and
Revit. Through this, students will develop
techniques looking at booth realistic and
schematic representation, and the integration of
building information modeling (BIM) as a tool to
inform and enhance the design process.
