In doing electrical work, it is significant to check regularly the condition
of
electrical tools before using it.
Electrical tools and equipment that are in good condition make the work
easier while defective ones can cause damage or accident to the surface being
worked
on and as well as to the lives of the electrician.
Read the story
One morning, Dino asks his father Lino to help him in doing his project in
making extension cord. “Father do you know how to make an extension
cord?” Dino asked. “Yes my son”, Lino said. “Father, can you help me to make
one, this is my project in my subject EIM” Dino said. “Okay son, I will teach and
guide you, go to the backyard and ready the things that we will use” father
said. Dino smiles and runs faster outside their house to prepare the materials
and tools to be used in doing his project. While working, Dino asks his father
“why I cannot cut the electrical wires using the Diagonal pliers?” Father Lino
get the pliers and inspects it and he found out that the jaw of the Diagonal
pliers is broken.
Answer the following questions.
1. Who has a school project?
2. Who helped Dino to make his project?
3. What was Dino’s problem?
4. In your opinion, how was Dino’s problem solved?
1. Functional tools and equipment are those that are in good condition
and can perform its regular functions.

2. Non-functional tools and equipment are those that are not able to
perform their regular function because of impaired and damage part.
Examples of these are hammer with a broken handle, screwdriver with
broken handle, long nose pliers with damaged jaw and electrical
equipment with damage.

3. Tools and equipment that are in good condition and damaged or

defective must be properly labelled. This would help us to easily
identify the tools and equipment that can be still used, repaired or
disposed.

Procedure in Segregating and Labeling of
Non-functional Tools and Equipment

•1. Conduct inventory of tools and

equipment.

•2. Record the non-functional tools and

equipment.

•3. Segregate tools that are serviceable and

unserviceable.
•4. Report the number of tools and equipment
that are non-functional but subject for repair.

•5. Label tools and equipment which are

condemnable.

•6. Return tools and equipment in the tool

cabinet as per operating procedures.
Lubrication is the control of friction and wear by the introduction of a
friction- reducing film between moving surfaces in contact. The lubricant
used can be a fluid, solid, or plastic substance.

A lubricant is a substance introduced to lessen friction between moving

surfaces. It may also transport external particles. The property of
reducing friction is known as lubricity.

The primary functions of a lubricant are to: reduce friction, prevent wear,
protect the equipment from corrosion, and control temperature
(dissipate heat), control contamination (carry contaminants to a filter or
sump), transmit power (hydraulics), and provide a fluid seal.
Types and Uses of
cants
1. Anti-rust lubricant spray
- loosen rusted part cleans and protect
- drives out moisture
- stops squeaks o free sticky mechanisms.

2. Wire Pulling Lubricant

- does not damage insulation o cling to wire and dries to
a slippery film.
- suitable for use with wire or cable covered with rubber
(t, thw, thhn, etc.).

3. All Purpose Anti Rust Lubricant

- anti-rust
- lubricating
- rust removal
- decontamination
- conductance

4. Lubricant Oil and Engine Oil
- lubricating the gear
- cleans and protect
- drives out moisture

5. Silicon Lubricant
- heat stable
- lubricates
- protects
- reduces friction
- water repellent
