Mystery Nerds AU Masterpost

So it recently came to my attention that most people don't know about the series that got me most of my followers - the Mystery Nerds AU, a Gravity Falls AU where Ford and Stan reconcile thirty years earlier than they do in canon and actually kinda sorta communicate and have lots of feelings filled moments. So, because I just added a new installment to it and I crave validation like some people crave food, I decided to make a post with links to all the fics on AO3.

All tags can be found here.

Life Support: "It's 1982, and Ford Pines has called his brother to Oregon, in desperate need of his help. Fate keeps Ford in this reality, and forces him to confront some very uncomfortable truths about his relationship with his twin." The one that started 'em all, babey, and arguably the most popular. Posted in 2015. Also got me called problematic by what was probably a bored, angry child for bringing up the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

Strays: "Stan, in all good conscience, can't leave a stray. He knows that feeling all too well." The third fic I wrote, but the second in the series, as an apology for the angst-fests I'd written before it.

It's Been a Long, Long Time: "Filbrick Pines is not made of stone. Even he has things that scare him. Linger with him. Haunt him." The one in which I give Filbrick some pathos, and make a lot of people scream at me (affectionately) for it.

And Here's To You: "It seems that, even when the Pines brothers make some progress, they always hit another snag. This was all because of that damn pill bottle." An examination of Stan's "loony days" mentioned in the Guide to Mystery and Nonstop Fun.

Seared With Scars: "Ford can't seem to catch a break when it comes to reminders of those he's hurt. He tries to make amends in the only way he knows how, but soon gets himself, Stan, and Helen swept up in the dark secrets of Gravity Falls." My personal favorite installment in the series, and the first appearance of everyone's favorite traumatized hillbilly. This one took me the longest (started in 2016, not finished till 2019).

Two Way Street: "You know what they say about communication. Or, Four times Filbrick Pines' sons reached out to him, and one time he reached out first." Another Filbrick-centric one, and another favorite because I just have a soft spot for humanizing this stupid old man, alright?

Ad Astra Per Aspera: "The Society of the Blind Eye is gone, and the only thing left for the gang to do is recuperate. And maybe deal with those pesky emotional issues waiting in the wings." The most recent installment, which is basically the culmination of me shoving Fiddauthor content directly into my eye sockets for a month.

I am so happy birds survived through the dinosaur extinction because this world would be too cold and cruel without their sweet chirps or honks....

hey so everyone knows fascism isnโ€™t a symptom of any known developmental or mental health disorder right ((: including aspd and npd ((: right?? And youโ€™re going to be normal about those two things for the next four years???

reblog to give your headache to elon musk instead

Iโ€™d just like to point out the growth in this post has mostly coincided with elonโ€™s public spiral downward and Iโ€™d like to think weโ€™re all a small part of that

bro canโ€™t think because heโ€™s just got a rager of a migraine 24/7

Your goal should be to get weirder with age and im not kidding. Become that odd estranged extended family member that owns a whacky home wherein a powerful magical item is kept that is the catalyst for the story of a children's adventure novel protagonist

Ok so, I just remembered how people in the comments of a tiktok video were being assholes, and I want to rant now :3

The video showed two wheelchair users at a train(?), who had just arrived to their stop to find nobody was there with a ramp so they could leave the train. One of them blocked the door so it wouldn't close, and this lasted for 15 minutes. The train was stopped for said 15 minutes. There was a button by the door, that said that it'd contact the driver when pressed. It didn't. People offered to go find the driver, and they came back with the news that there were no people in the platform to put the ramp. In the end, passengers had to go out, and place the ramp themselves, before the train could carry on. The wheelchair users had warned they were coming, and asked to have the ramp put there so they could get down. The platform turned out to have workers, they all just ran away because they'd never encountered the situation in which they needed to do this simple task.

Because of the workers' negligence, the train was forced to stop for 15 minutes.

Everyone's comments?

  • "Why did they block the doors and stop the train? So selfish" Selfish were workers who refused to do their job.
  • "What if someone had needed to get to their stop urgently? They shouldn't have stopped the train" It wasn't the disabled people's fault, it was the workers who were negligent.
  • "Why didn't they just wheel themselves down those steps?" They shouldn't have to risk their (expensive) chairs just because people didn't do what they were paid to do.
  • "If I had been in that train I would've been pissed, how dare you stop it" And you probably wouldn't have even thought about fixing the problem yourself, would you?
  • "Entitled assholes" Ok I'll leave you stranded in a train with everyone who could help you get down outright refusing to. Let's see who's an entitled asshole now.

If someone fights for accessibility, as much as it might be a bother for you, you do not have the right to be mad at them. If someone fights for accessibility, it is exclusively the fault of a world catered exclusively for able-bodied people.

So next time you think, "hey the consequences of these disabled people fighting for their rights bother me", instead of blaming them for this, help them solve the issue. This way, next time they will not have to fight at all.

Able bodied people, go out and fight for a fucking accessible world if you're not an asshole.

[ Able-bodied people are encouraged to reblog this post, but try not to derail ]

โ€œWhat if someone had needed to get to their stop urgently?โ€ What if the fucking disabled people had needed to get to their stop urgently?????

I assigned a writing prompt a few weeks ago that asked my students to reflect on a time when someone believed in them or when they believed in someone else. One of my students began to panic.

โ€œI have to ask Google the prompt to get some ideas if I canโ€™t just use AI,โ€ she pleaded and then began typing into the search box on her screen, โ€œA time when someone believed in you.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s about you,โ€ I told her. โ€œYouโ€™ve got your life experiences inside of your own mind.โ€ It hadnโ€™t occurred to her โ€” even with my gentle reminder โ€” to look within her own imagination to generate ideas. One of the reasons why I assigned the prompt is because learning to think for herself now, in high school, will help her build confidence and think through more complicated problems as she gets older โ€” even when sheโ€™s no longer in a classroom situation.

Sheโ€™s only in ninth grade, yet sheโ€™s already become accustomed to outsourcing her own mind to digital technologies, and it frightens me.

When I teach students how to write, Iโ€™m also teaching them how to think. Through fits and starts (a process that can be both frustrating and rewarding), high school English teachers like me help students get to know themselves better when they use language to figure out what they think and how they feel.

. . .

If you believe, as I do, that writing is thinking โ€” and thinking is everything โ€” things arenโ€™t looking too good for our students or for the educators trying to teach them. In addition to teaching high school, Iโ€™m also a college instructor, and I see this behavior in my older students as well.

This! This is what scares me the most about AI! Physical exertion is difficult if someone isn't used to it, and it gets easier the more often it's done. When it's done often enough, it becomes a habit. Mental exertion is exactly the same. Thinking is a learned skill just like a sport is, and an entire generation is growing up without that most critical skill.

An unthinking populace is a more easily controlled populace.

I'd just like to clarify some things about Senator Cory Booker's marathon Senate speech in protest of the present administration and everything they are doing to the American people.

Senator Booker was NOT allowed to sit down, eat, or use the bathroom during his speech. Sitting or leaving the room to use the bathroom would be considered yielding the floor. Eating would have interfered with his speaking and the person who has the senate floor must continue to speak, except when listening to questions that they will then answer.

He only took occasional sips of water.

The person who previously held the record for longest speech on the Senate floor did have bathroom breaks and also did things like read from the encyclopedia.

Senator Booker did not do that. His speech was to point out the damage that this administration is doing and he stayed on that subject.

Senator Booker's speech did reach many people. It wasn't a silly stunt that was done so that he could take the record for longest speech. He wanted to show the country that democrats will do something to bring attention to the problems we are facing. That democrats are listening to them.

Senator Cory Booker spoke for 25 hours and 4 minutes to "make good trouble."

also like, a Black man breaking Strom Thurmond's record is absolutely *chef's kiss*

for those who are too young to know about Strom, he was literally a white supremacist

Not just โ€˜aโ€™ white supremacist. He was *THE* white supremacist. INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT CONTEXT HERE is that Storm Thurmondโ€™s speech that he broke the record of? It was 24 hours and 18 minutes opposing *the Civil Rights Act of 1957*. He voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. He was a segregationist POS who was the blueprint for the Southern Strategy which was designed by Lee Atwater, a former Thurmond aide. Having his record broken by Booker is astounding and Iโ€™m so happy.

If hell exists, Strom Thurmond is being flambรฉed and Iโ€™m happy for it.

hey so everyone knows fascism isnโ€™t a symptom of any known developmental or mental health disorder right ((: including aspd and npd ((: right?? And youโ€™re going to be normal about those two things for the next four years???

you will live to witness manmade horrors that are completely within your comprehension if you've paid any attention to a single piece of human history but are nevertheless still huge bummers
