Some thoughts on episode 89 and the next Horizons arc:

. This episode made me cry so much lol Then I cried again watching the subtitles. Friede and Orla are my comfort characters. I can't believe they 'killed off' Friede and Charizard with Orla and the kids watching. Damn.

. Whether Friede is actually dead, I don't know. I think he'll come back in some shape or form. I was thinking if he did pass away he might be contactable through the crystal pool, but apparently it only works through time travel so maybe not. I think the most likely scenario is that Charizard managed to save him from falling and they are out there somewhere. What bothers me is that they haven't been seen for a year. Some people have speculated that he's been captured by Spinel, which seems plausable with Spinel's track record 😅

. Speaking of Spinel, I hate this man. He might be one of the best villains in the pokemon anime. Gibeon was redeemable because he lost his mind over his rakurium obsession. Spinel though... He's not mad, he knows exactly what he's doing and doesn't care. I have to wonder where the other rising volt tacklers are after he framed them. They're likely in hiding, but there's no mention so far of what specifically happened to them.

. In terms of the upcoming arc, I love the time skip designs- especially Roy's. His jacket looks like Friede's, which reinforces how much he inspired him. Captain Pikachu is also travelling with him. It looks like Roy is the only rvt member who continued training after the events of Rakua.

. I'm not sure how I feel about shiny mega Lucario joining the cast. It's cool, but I'm a bit tired of the same pokemon being milked in the anime. I liked the trio's former teams because they were full of original pokemon that hadn't had a chance to shine in previous series. The only good thing about Roy having a Lucario (aside from advertising) is that it parallels with Friede's Charizard. They are both fan favourite ashimons that are capable of mega evolution. Since Roy has always looked up to Friede, this could be a nice nod to their friendship.

. Liko's design change is the least drastic imo, but this makes sense from a narrative perspective. In the arc teaser, it was revealed that Liko has lost her confidence and struggled with her mood since the events of Rakua. Therefore, a drastic change wouldn't seem right. I feel like this arc will be about her reclaiming her confidence and rediscovering her identity.

. Ult looks like an interesting character- I always wanted Roy to have a rival. I'm neutral about Sableye, but I'm glad the writers gave him an original partner. According to the VAs, Ult dislikes Liko. I'm sure they'll find common ground but I hope he isn't horrible to her.

. Ann has been in the previews, so it looks like she'll at least be present at the beginning of the next arc. Also, her Dewott has evolved?! If she sticks around, I can see her and Liko deepening their rivalry/friendship. If not, maybe Dot and Liko could have their own rivalry.

. Speaking of which, it's not clear what Dot will be doing in this arc. It looks like she's been hiding away streaming, which is sad but also makes sense. Regardless, I love her new headphones (although the cord hanging off them can go). Her hair is slightly longer and one of her eyes is visible, which symbolises her growing confidence.

. It is hard to tell from the news we've had so far if the other rvts will have a significant role in the upcoming arc. The fact that they're not in the poster isn't surprising since they are supporting characters. However, I'm wondering if Friede's absense will give them space to grow on their own. Orla was his childhood friend, so I want to see what happened to her after the events of Rakua. Murdock was also really close to Friede, and will have to take care of Dot on top of that. Friede and Charizard had such a huge impact on all of the rvts so I hope their reaction won't be left offscreen.

. I somehow forgot to address lol this but it's weird to have an official anipoke time skip. I thought from the poster that the time jump was bigger, but one year means that they'll have time to cover everything we've missed. I want to know how Roy met Lucario or Riolu and what his journey through Kalos was like. Did he train against Korrina? I also want to know how him and Ult met.

Overall, I'm so hyped for arc five. Seeing the kids (uhhh I mean teenagers) trying to save the rvt's reputation shows how far they have come. I know I'll miss Friede and his Charizard though. I really do hope they return at some point.

The BBC has announced a new TV special, set to air during Autism Acceptance Week.

Titled The Assembly, the episode will arrive on BBC and iPlayer in April. It will feature around 35 people who are autistic, neurodivergent or learning disabled interview Good Omens star Michael Sheen.

No question or subject will be off the table, promising viewers half an hour of "chaos, delight" and plenty of revelations.

"I was thrilled to be asked to be a guest on The Assembly. It’s such a fresh and exciting idea and I can’t wait for what I’m sure is going to be a surprising and challenging experience," Sheen said in a statement.

"I really don’t know what to expect, which is both exhilarating and a little bit terrifying."

The Assembly is an adaptation of the French show Les Rencontres Du Papotin, which has seen neurodivergent journalist's interview the likes of politician Emmanuel Macron and Call My Agent’s Camille Cottin.

5 Autism Myths for Autism Acceptance Week

. "Autism is a mental illness"- Autism is not an illness of any kind, nor is it caused by Vaccines as some believe. It is a neurological condition that someone is born with.

. "All autistic people have the same traits"- It's called a spectrum for a reason. Autistic people all have different support needs and different combinations of traits. These can include difficulties in social interaction, sensory issues and a need for routine.

. "You can tell if someone is autistic by looking at them"- Many autistic people mask either by suppressing their traits or copying others, in order to get by in social situations. This is especially common in women with the condition, who are underdiagnosed as a result. Many autistic people (including myself) were diagnosed late as a result of masking.

. "All autistic people are shy and introverted"- Autistic people present in many ways and have different personalities. We can be shy, outgoing, introverted or extroverted.

. "Autistic people lack empathy"- Some autistic people struggle with cognitive, somatic or affective empathy, while others can have hyper-empathy. To add, autistic people can be extremely sensitive to the emotional pain of others, in ways that neurotypicals cannot. Thus, autistic people by definition do not 'lack' empathy.

Just a rundown of Spinel's tactical moments/crimes so far:

  • Spied on the group for a while, then launched an attack on the Brave Olivine and disrupted all of the electronics on the ship and their phones
  • Had his own Pokemon attack Friede while he ordered them remotely so the heroes would never see his face, and forced Friede to reveal his Trump card of Terastallization.
  • Lured a preteen girl into a dark alley and mindwiped her, stealing her pendant (creepiest scene from this anime, honestly)
  • Had the heroes going thru a wild goose chase by disseminating false intel online, and also had a decoy deployed to distract Friede, their strongest battler at the time
  • Tried to harm/kill a defenseless Dot (who had just become a Trainer that night!) by having his Magneton use Electro Ball on her (thank goodness that was precisely when Liko and Roy found her)
  • Had his Umbreon attack the kids directly when they get the upper hand against Beheeyem and Magneton.(and was about to attack Liko again right before a pissed-off Arboliva appeared to make him reconsider)
  • Kept some info over what he observed on the pendant and how it interacted with Liko/one of the Heroes out of his report to the other Explorers and Gibeon.
  • Had a disinformation campaign running again keeping the RVT from pursuing other hero Pokemon effectively
  • Was the one who cooked up the "Let's let the Rising Volt Tacklers do the work for us" plot
  • The plot to catch Rayquaza in Ep44-45 is mostly his, and he lures Friede off into a trap again. He also learned from last time, boxing Friede and Pikachu in a small location so they couldn't go all-out with Charizard.
  • Apparently noticed Friede was in Exceed, stealth-blocked Friede's friend from accessing the files on Laquium, and then stole it right out from under Friede's nose.
  • Drove his own Umbreon, a friendship evolution, into a painful, berserk state.
  • Trapped Amethio and Liko in an icy cave, they definitely could have starved or froze to death in there.
  • While it's later revealed that he left his Beheeyem behind to monitor things in case Liko and Amethio escaped, and later used that footage to claim Amethio had betrayed them and get him banished, I think his hope was that they died down there, going by the way he talks about things here:
  • Just the fact he manipulated the apparent main villain into kicking out his own grandson who was genuinely loyal to him, to make it easier to stab him in the back later??? He had Gibeon wrapped around his little finger!
  • Left his own underlings/security behind just in case Amethio/his grunts tried to raid his office looking for evidence that he planned to betray Gibeon, and had them lock him somewhere away from Exceed where I don't think he was expecting anyone to find them (he even had them take their PokeBalls, just so they couldn't escape again. Another possible murder attempt?)
  • This way he smiles here is a pretty clear "God, I can't wait to see the look on your face when I inevitably betray you." (That turned out to be unnecessary, but he does essentially betray Gibeon and his wishes after his death.)
  • Jumped Friede again and severely weakened his Pokemon just before the final battle, which lead to them going berserk under the effects of Laquium later. (Plus teaching Beheeyem Skill Swap to render Pikachu and his Electric attacks useless was such a smart move.)
  • High probability that those inventions thumping the ground to activate the Laquium were his, just as the Laquium Spheres were.
  • Waited until Terapagos was powered down/in a weakened state to reveal that it didn't purify all the Laquium, using the Laquium Spheres to gas the Heroes and drive them all berserk.
  • Flipped the narrative and manipulated the media against our heroes by claiming the Rising Volt Tacklers were responsible for the damage done to Laqua and Kumuri.
  • Captured 5/6 of the Six Heroes. (And since we still don't know what happened to Friede, given Spinel's interest in him and their rivalry, I'm looking at him as a possible culprit.)
  • Is still fucking around with Laquium and sending various Pokemon into frenzies.

Honestly, he's definitely one of the smartest Pokemon villains we've had, and I expect this already long-ass list to get even longer in the future 🤣

It's been confirmed via Oricon that the first episodes of HZ Mega Voltage will debut as a 1hr special! (I guess we're getting caught up for those three weeks it'll be off the air 😂)

Definitely curious for the episode next week, I wonder if my prediction is correct and Spinel will become the new main villain after all 👀 Gibeon is having a breakdown (and spoilers, is Zygardeless now), and my boy seems to be the root cause of why Laqua falls apart.

This was such a good final clash, I like that Zygarde didn't actually lose, it was mostly testing the strength of the kids' bonds with their Pokemon.

Also, Flower Trick's animation is cool 😻
