My Retreat

@bookscoffeeandracoons / bookscoffeeandracoons.tumblr.com

Adriana, 30, bi, she/her, INFJ, Gryffindor, dog mum, loving @pandamambo5.  366 Day Reblog Challenge Masterlist My blog is a mess and occasionally NSFW.

I can't even put into words how much I miss our pupper.

He was doing so well not even a week ago. But below the surface it looked different.

Tonight we had to take his last journey with him. We held him while he fell asleep.

The pain is overwhelming. We love him so much and miss him in every corner of our home and our life.

Run free, Baby, without pain or any restraints.

We love you so much. There's nothing big enough to measure our love.

synopsis: bucky's gotten good at keeping his distance from his harmless, sunshine-y neighbor. but when you get taken because of him—because someone figured out you're his weak spot—he realizes how spectacularly that plan backfired. turns out the winter soldier's soft spot is a lot more dangerous than he thought.

pairing: post-thunderbolts!bucky x fem!reader

disclaimers: violence, kidnapping, blood and injury, torture (not graphic), angst with a happy ending, emotional hurt/comfort, established feelings but complicated relationship, second person POV, fem!reader, miscommunication, intense yearning, emotionally constipated!bucky, past trauma, mild language, fighting sequences

word count: 10.6k

a/n: first fic on this blog and it's basically just 10k words of soft bucky yearning xoxo

The first time Bucky Barnes sees you, you're trying to shove a couch through a doorway that's at least six inches too narrow, and losing spectacularly.

He's coming home from another pointless congressional hearing—the kind where everyone talks in circles about defense budgets while carefully not mentioning the alien invasion from three months ago—when he spots you in the hallway. You're wedged between the arm of what looks like a vintage velvet monstrosity and the doorframe of 4B, hair escaping from whatever you'd tried to contain it with, muttering a stream of increasingly creative profanity.

Holy shit, was this good! ❤️❤️

when i came out as trans i had an old friend from my church days message me to congratulate me and ask me for my name and pronouns. and i was shocked tbh cause he was such a head-deep-up-the-church’s ass kind of guy so i was super wary.

and after digging a little deeper i found out that he was very supportive of transness, saying that trans men are men and trans women are women

BUT

he also believed in the church’s gender roles meaning that trans women had to marry men and be submissive wives and trans men had to marry women and be strong christian husbands.

which is like ????

the weirdest and most surreal form of trans inclusive misogyny i’ve ever seen.

TRANS RIGHTS BUT WOMEN WRONG

Above image is a pride flag with every color band represented by a NASA image. White is Earth clouds, pink is aurora, blue is the Sun in a specific wavelength, brown is Jupiter clouds, black is the Hubble deep field, red is the top of sprites, orange is a Mars crater, yellow is the surface of Io, green is a lake with algae, blue is Neptune, and purple is the Crab Nebula in a specific wavelength.

I love this!

I didn’t see this link in the reblogs but I love Mercury and she has a book out called “Safe & Sound: A Renter-Friendly Guide to Home Repair”. She is one of those beautiful souls who love to teach people new skills with compassion and joy, instead of putting down others for not having knowledge about (what others may consider basic home repairs and DIY.

I love this lady. She's like a friendly big sister here to show you how to do stuff.

➡️ Content warnings on fiction are a courtesy.

➡️ Not every medium of fiction and storytelling has or is expected to have content warnings or extensive tagging.

➡️ Print novels do not traditionally warn for content in any way.

➡️ Until AO3 came along, fanfiction did not traditionally warn for content in any significant way.

➡️ An author is only obligated to warn for content to the degree mandated by the format they publish their fiction on.

➡️ Content warnings beyond the minimum are a courtesy, not an obligation.

➡️ ‘Creator chose not to warn’ is a valid tag that authors are allowed to use on AO3. It means there could be anything in there and you have accepted the risk. ‘May contain peanuts!’

➡️ Writers are allowed to use ‘Creator chose not to warn’ for any reason, including to maintain surprise and avoid spoilers.

➡️ ‘Creator chose not to warn’ is not the same thing as ‘no archive warnings apply’.

➡️ It is your responsibility to protect yourself and close a book, or hit the back button if you find something in fiction that you’re reading that upsets you.

➡️ You are responsible for protecting yourself from fiction that causes you discomfort.

-> you are allowed to decide you don’t want to read anything from someone who doesn’t use tags/warnings

-> you are not allowed to harass them/be a jerk about it

-> (I mean this is the internet you are allowed but it’s not great behavior and contributes to the internet being a hostile place)

“Don’t like don’t read” absolutely applies to “I don’t like that this doesn’t come with labels, therefore I will not read”

Honestly bizarre that tomatoes get all the flack for “not being a vegetable” because they're technically a fruit when:

A) There are a ton of fruits that get categorised as vegetables. Like this also applies to pumpkins, squashes and cucumbers.

B) The fucking mushrooms are standing there at the back of the crowd in this witch trial, trying to look inconspicuous because they somehow got into the vegetable club with no fucking controversy despite the fact that they're not even plants.

"technically tomatoes are fruits--" THAT MUSHROOM OVER THERE IS MORE CLOSELY RELATED TO A FUCKING SHIH TZU THAN IT IS TO LITERALLY ANY PLANT

IS THAT FANART?

it’s a warning

Anyone got that poem written from the perspective of an English teacher where they know deeply personal things about their now adult students because of the essays they wrote

FOUND IT it was in one of my boards

Small Town English Teacher

In your town, former students sling your drinks, snap your x-rays, and report your news on TV. You hold their secrets because you remember their essays.

One returns from combat, homecoming party at the airport, and you know he only joined up because his mom was ashamed of him. You remember the essay.

One dies from an opioid OD and you know about the man who groped her at work and how she told his wife. You remember the essay.

One smiles and wins an award and you know her drunk dad pushed her mom into a wall. You remember the essay.

One closes her eyes halfway in the mugshot and you know she worked in assisted living and once brushed a dying woman's hair. You remember the essay.

How the Geneva Drive (the mechanical step that makes the second hand on a clock work by turning constant rotation into intermittent motion) works.

Oh snap!

As an engineer, this makes me happy.

If only one loop of this gif were equal to one second…

easy peasy

watching this while listening to a clock ticking is the best decision i have ever made

You may like this amazing web page then: https://ciechanow.ski/mechanical-watch/ It’s a full break down of how a mechanical watch works, every single part including a complication. Every diagram is interactive and beautifully put together. It’s a fantastic read, fun to play with and really informative.

Seconding this recommendation, and in fact this person’s entire blog: he has multiple of these explainers and they’re all good.

In particular, if you’re a programmer who finds floating point numbers to be exotic dark magic, I strongly recommend his Exposing Floating Point post. There are many guides/tutorials on floating point arithmetic out there but IMO this is the best one and makes them really not seem so difficult by the end of it (or at least, all their counterintuitive behavior now makes sense).

this too, is yuri

i was seeing all these little blue flowers everywhere and kept thinking "dang what are these bitches, i can't remember..." well guess what. they were fuckin forget-me-nots. can't believe i failed step fucking 1, the hot girls on iNaturalist are going to laugh at me and i'm gonna flunk out of hobby botany school.

!!! Learn From My Humiliation!!! THESE ARE THE BITCHES!!!! DO NOT FORGET THEM !!!!
