The light through the curtains is barely there, soft and gray and not quite committed to morning. You lie still for a while, not really thinking, not really resting—just breathing. Trying to convince your body it’s okay to get up. That there’s no one waiting outside this door to laugh when you walk wrong. No whispers. No sharp elbows in the hallway. Just… quiet.

Being too disabled to work is not a “rich person thing.” People who are not allowed to have more than 2k in their bank accounts are not rich lazy upper class people lol. And if you try to argue that “well if you aren’t rich how do you expect to survive without working” I’d like to remind you that lots of disabled people who can’t work don’t actually survive.

Like it makes me insane how many people on this site don’t seem to realize that sometimes disabled people die if we don’t get the care we need. Your pharmacy lost a refill? That kills people. You’re stuck with an uncomfortable transport chair? That can cause pressure sores, which kill people. You don’t have an adjustable bed that can position you properly to allow you to breathe? Some people suffocate and die. These things that are framed as luxuries are literally life and death and it makes me so mad

when peeta hits the forcefield during the quarter quell, katniss’s reaction is immediate. instinctive.

she rushes to him. fumbles her fingers across his lips. rests her head on his chest. her spot. the place where she sleeps.

and when he comes back to her, she jumps into him. brushes the sweat-drenched blond hair from his forehead like she’s done it a hundred times.

the whole thing just radiates familiarity. this isn’t a discovery. it’s a return.

she knows him. she’s touched him before. rested against him before. let herself feel safe with him before.

by this point in the story, peeta is familiar. peeta is comfortable. peeta is her safe space.

and what’s striking is that katniss never touches gale like that.

the only time she touches his face, it’s hesitant. unsure. like she’s still trying to figure out what it means to be this way with him.

but with peeta... there’s no figuring it out. she’s already there.
