This one is not very different from movies design except from Galadriel’s crown
I honestly am not sure if I have ever read anything more romantic and beautifully written than their little section of this book. It actually brought a tear to my eye.
They are, without a doubt, my one true pairing
Hey there!
For the ask game: I'd love to hear about 7, 19, 25 if you don't mind sharing!
Thank you so much! 😄
Yay, thanks so much for the ask :) I would be happy to answer!
7. What scares you the most and why? Ooof that's a tough one. This is going to be a deep cut, but here we go: I think I am afraid of dying prematurely (or life somehow slipping by), before I can live the life that I really want to. I grew up in a household with strict expectations for how I was meant to behave and what I was expected to achieve. There was not a lot of room for my large and chaotic emotions, intense hobby interests, and lack of understanding of hierarchy. This is maybe a common experience for first and second gen immigrant families, but I felt like my family's love for me was really predicated on whether I achieved their career standards (read: doctor, lawyer, or engineer) and their expectations of propriety. The result is that I spent a lot of time people pleasing and trying to fold myself into an acceptable shape, while stuffing my own anger and frustration and feeling like my true self was generally unlovable. I also pursued a STEM career that felt like a prestigious way to prove myself, but in retrospect, is not at all a good fit for my personality and priorities. Over the last ten years or so, and after a pretty significant mental health crisis when I finished college, I think I've done a lot of growth and healing. I've found friends and a partner that love me for me, and they have taught me that it's ok to be my authentic self. I've also repaired my relationship with my parents a lot, and I'm taking steps to change career paths to something that is more fulfilling and conducive to my life goals (spending time with loved ones in joy, being outside as much as possible, and traveling to new places). However, in many ways, it feels like my life is just beginning, and I have spent almost 30 years being a person that I don't really want to be anymore. As such, I have a lot of anxiety about dying prematurely, or about the circumstances of the world cutting me off from finally being able to build a life that allows me to embrace myself and the things that make me happy. It feels like I've wasted a lot of time. Sorry, that was probably way deeper than you intended for me to go, but to be honest I'm not genuinely afraid of a lot of other things. Like I don't love spiders, and I live in a wildfire area and am afraid of my home burning down, but the thing that really keeps me up at night is what I just wrote. 19. Favorite thing about the day?
The sun, the sun, the sun! I am solar-powered, that's for sure. Being outside in the sun for an extended period makes me soooo happy, it's a little ridiculous how much it improves my mood.
25.
Along the same lines, my favorite season is most definitely summer. I love spending a long day outside in nature and in the warm sun, followed by a long evening and warm dusk as the stars come out overhead. I love water and I love swimming, so I really thrive in summer when I can visit the ocean or my favorite swimming holes. And summer is when the high alpine regions near me are accessible to backpacking and camping. I love getting up there as much as possible, it's truly my happy place.
Anyways, thank you so much for the questions. It's so fun to get to share and get to know folks on here.

Maeglin: Nana, I don't want this bread. It's hard already!
Aredhel: Back on the ice we would have been happy to have it!
Maeglin: Yeah, because it was fresh back then...
“Very fair was her face, and her long hair was like a river of gold. Slender and tall she was in her white robe girt with silver; but strong she seemed and stern as steel, a daughter of kings. Thus Aragon for the first time in the full light of day beheld Éowyn, lady of Rohan, and thought her fair, fair and cold, like a morning of pale spring that is not yet come to womanhood.”

ooooh this looks like fun, thanks for the tag @itsgoghtime!!! 😊
favorite dog breed: silky terriers. after knowing my two precious girls, Moria (affectionately known as MoeRayRay) and Roxie (codename RooRoo), there really can't be any other choice, for me
favorite cat breed: definitely calico. my cousin had the sweetest girl (Checkers) when we were growing up, and she was my little buddy every time I went over for a visit.
favorite amphibian/reptile: leopard gecko. did a report on these little guys when I was in elementary school, and always thought they were rather adorable.
favorite fandoms: rings of power, yellowstone, and stranger things are the big 3 right now
favorite characters: adar (RoP), halbrand/annatar/sauron (RoP), thranduil (the hobbit), legolas (lotr), pete 'maverick' mitchell, tom 'iceman' kazansky
current special interest: rings of power for sure
current normal interests: normal? me?!?!?! impossible! (but if I had to name something, it'd probably be baking?)
if you dyed your hair, what color: so I had my hair died a few years back, and I can't remember the specific color, but it was a gorgeous red (as a redhead who hated her hair growing up, and then it turned a sort of mousey brown and I want it back to red, this was amazing for me). once I ditch the chemo peach-fuzz and get real hair again, I'll probably go for that color again! 😁
favorite color: turquoise without a doubt!

Here is my contribution:
favorite dog breed?
German shepherds. We had them when I was growing up and they were so loyal and protective, and they just have the softest hearts. One of them (Jake) used to sleep by my bed every night after I woke up screaming about a spider one time. He took it as his duty to protect me from eight-legged intruders after that 🖤
favorite cat breed?
Um... I don't really know. I like the black and white ones but I don't think they're a specific breed!
favorite reptile/amphibians?
We have newts in our pond that are fun to watch - I name them all Isaac Newton 🍎🦎
favorite fandoms?
Rings of Power/ Lord of the Rings/ Silmarillion
favorite characters?
Right now I just love Adar (from TROP)🥵, though I actually like most of the characters in that show, and Aragorn, Thorin, and others from period dramas
what’s your current special interest?
Adar and Adariel 🖤🤍
what’s your current normal interest?
Normal lol 🤣- I am not normal. I enjoy photography, writing, and drawing (though I'm not good at it)
if you dyed your hair, what color would it be?
I've dyed my hair lots of times - I'm not sure I actually know what my natural colour is now (probably grey 🤣). I've been brown, dark brown, golden brown, burgundy, ginger (I actually loved this colour!), and now I'm between dark blonde and light brown. If I was really brave I'd go back to ginger, but I doubt I will.
favorite color?
❤️🍎🍒RED 🍒⭕🔴 - I'm always drawn to red. It's like something subconscious pulls me to it!
If you want to join in then please do. Will tag a few 🖤
aww, thanks for the tag @varda-star-queen 🫶🏼🫶🏼
favourite dog breed? Probably goldies. Although I've never owned a dog, one of my friends has one and he's adorable!!
favourite cat breed? Uhhh.. i like the ginger ones. I don't know if they're a specific breed.
favourite reptile/amphibian? I don't really like reptiles, too many bad experiences with them. If dinosaurs can be counted, I think pachycephalosaurus and ankylosaurus are really cool!
favourite fandoms? The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Rings of Power, The Silmarillion, basically anything Tolkien related.
favourite characters? I basically love everyone, but to name a few, I'd say Thranduil (what an elf, what an elf), Aragorn, Boromir, Faramir, Eowyn, Pippin, Bilbo, Adar, Elrond, Maedhros, Thingol, Huan.
what's your current special interest? Uhh.. Westron! I went down a rabbit hole searching for the Hobbits' names in Westron, and now I'm trying to find more on etymology and stuff! Very interesting. Also, the Rohan theme/leitmotif by Howard Shore. I'm currently trying to write something related to it, along with its connections to Carnatic music.
what's your current normal interest? Im currently working on my writing and drawing, as well as the few languages I'm learning.
if you dyed your hair, what colour would it be? Hmm.. difficult question, because I lovee my hair, which is a dark brown. I've always loved dark red hair, although I'm not sure how good it would look on me lol.
favourite colour? Green! Specifically dark, murky shades! I love them.
Wanna play? @gauntletgirlie @wowstrawberrycow @valar-did-me-wrong @gingeragenda @orehuna @lady-of-ithilien @mace-waz-here @numenoria @tuckboroughdays @silme-lorien @frodosrings @ghost-of-morrowbright @daughterofthesunlands + anyone else who wants to join!!
yay thank you for the tag @iwanderbecauseimlost !!! :)
favourite dog breed? Australian Shepherd! I've never had a dog, but if I got one this would be my first choice. A close family friend had one and as a kid, I spent a lot of time with that pup on backpacking trips. He was so sweet.
favourite cat breed? Any long-haired cat. I love me some floofs!
favourite reptile/amphibian? Man I Love Frogs! I enjoy all frogs, but love poison dart frogs specifically because wow, all those colors!
favourite fandoms? The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, and all things Tolkien; I also greatly enjoy ASOIAF and The Last Kingdom.
favourite characters? So I'll say that I generally find all characters wonderful and enjoy the respective roles they play in the story. That said, Éowyn holds a very very special place in my heart (to put it mildly), and Faramir also. I also have an abiding love for Boromir, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Éomer, Melian, Aredhel, and I could expand on this and would probably just end up naming everyone TBH so I will cut myself off now.
what's your current special interest? LOTR/Tolkien generally (but that's been true since I was like, 7), Farawyn specifically (also true for several decades); also Mary Oliver poetry and long distance hiking!
what's your current normal interest? writing (although that's in special interest territory too), camping, mushroom hunting, DnD, and microbiology (which is related to my work)
if you dyed your hair, what colour would it be? I've had my hair dyed dark brown for about a year. It's normally a light golden-brown, but I've always loved my mom's hair (black) and was sad that I didn't inherit her coloring, so I dyed it for a while. I'm now trying to go back to my natural color for a while. I don't know if I'll dye it again in the future; I have really long hair (to my hips) and it's a pain and/or expensive to keep it healthy and looking nice with dye. Sorry, that's a boring answer. If I ever wanted to do a fantasy color, I think I would do pink.
favourite colour? Pale blue, like an ice blue or very pale periwinkle. I own many objects in this color :D

I love all books but sometimes you read a book and you’re like so were all 21 thousand of you blindfolded and at gun point when you rated it 5 stars
For the person in my messages who asked for tips on tackling the Silmarillion and then suggested that I put them in a post — here they are! This is just my personal opinion, and others have weighed in on this topic before. But in case it’s helpful:
1. Be kind to yourself about this task! There’s a reason lots of people find the Silm challenging, and if you do, too, that’s no judgment of you.
2. IMHO, the first few chapters are the hardest, so try not to let them intimidate you out of the whole thing. It starts off with this very formal, archaic tone, and the early chapters take on some very abstract, metaphysical ideas. But you get used to the tone, and the story comes down out of the clouds to something more grounded and closer to a traditional (but still mythological-style) narrative. (Note “hardest” does not mean “bad” — I love those chapters!)
3. Realistically, you are not going to remember every name, place, and detail, so have a plan for that. Everything’s got a thousand names and Tolkien doesn’t always do a good job telegraphing what info is significant and will come back later vs what will literally only ever be mentioned once in passing. So expect to take some notes or spend time flipping back to earlier chapters or to the index or just googling as needed to remind yourself exactly who that angry elf is and why it’s a big deal that his own magical dog wants nothing to do with him now.
4. Find someone to read along/discuss with you. Talking about it helps you retain the info better, puzzle out stuff you found confusing, and stoke your interest by letting you dive deep into characters or themes or ideas that are especially amazing (Gwindor my beloved!). You can read along with someone in real life, someone here (hi!) or with a podcast or YouTube series, of which there are a bunch that go through the book chapter by chapter in an accessible way. (If anyone wants recs for this purpose, just LMK!)
5. Embrace that the story is nuanced and complex, which means your reaction can be the same. If you read it and find yourself wondering, “I’m not sure how to feel about [cursed human X] doing [morally objectionable thing Y]” or “I don’t understand where [spider-shaped creature of darkness Z] came from and how she got so incredibly cool powerful?” — that doesn’t mean you read it wrong! There is room for interpretation, and a lot of questions raised by the book don’t actually have obvious answers. (Questions like, is evil ever justified? Can redemption be earned and how? What do we owe to others even at a cost to ourselves? Big stuff!)
6. DNF it if you want! There’s no rule that says you have to read the Silm to be a Tolkien fan, and you don’t have to suffer through something you find unpleasant just to earn some Tolkien Points. I think it’s a gorgeous book that feeds my need to wrestle with big Life Questions while giving me some indelible characters that will always stay with me, but you don’t have to think that. Art is subjective, and there are plenty of other ways to enjoy Tolkien if the Silm turns out not to be your thing.
Edit to say that the one thing I’d add is that if you’re a visual thinker like me, having maps on hand is incredibly helpful! I found that reading in parallel with referencing maps added a whole new depth to my read through and really improved my comprehension.
Summary:
"Lady Galadriel's husband?" Faramir asks in turn, and then flushes — no man would appreciate being addressed as his wife's husband. Well, he wouldn't mind, personally. But he's not like most other men. Nor, it seems, is this silver-haired elf, who is outright laughing at Faramir's flustered apology.
"Lady Galadriel's husband indeed, pleased to make the acquaintance of Lady Éowyn's betrothed," he smiles, bows low, and winks. "My name is Celeborn. And you have spent some time dead, I hear?"
"I have," Faramir nods. "Six minutes, they say."
It is a day of statewide mourning in Gondor for the losses of the War of the Ring, a ritual involving mass funerary pyres. Celeborn and Faramir skive off and spend the day beside an oddly named river very few have heard of, and find they have more in common than a fear of fire.
For @frodosrings “random pair” wheel event, featuring an unlikely friendship between Celeborn and Faramir.
(Note: I do not like Faramir in the movies, and this is mostly an exploration of their differences from that perspective. I tried to avoid bashing, but eh. It’s also really long, much longer than I originally expected.)

I think I’ve finally–after all these years–had an epiphany about movie Faramir vs. book Faramir. How the discussions generally seem to go is this:
