"Beautiful Losers", Leonard Cohen
The amount of denial and hopium on the left is absurd and maddening. You cannot make plans to protect yourself or anyone else unless you are realistic about what lies ahead. I am so tired. Tired of hearing, well it won’t be bad for me because of X (fill in any wishful thinking here). It will be bad. For everyone except a very few. And those few are not on discord/tumblr/reddit. They’re currently implementing plans that have been honed to perfection over the last 20 years to make themselves rich while causing maximum pain to the rest of us.
The marginalized know the fallacy of “just think positive” when you are facing a life without those things that are necessary for your survival. I depend on the ACA. I was around when we didn’t have it. Trust me, anyone that thinks they’ll be fine without it are very wrong. It also put protections in place for those with employer insurance.
Climate change will affect us all, even if you personally don’t believe in it. How will we protect ourselves without any advance warning or practical information to plan for a devastating weather event? The NOAA saves lives. Who is going to help you after the devastation? FEMA is already underfunded. NGOs are not going to save you because the sheer amount of damage and number of people affected is already exponentially greater than anything we’ve ever seen.
People are scared and upset, justifiably so. We all need support and a space to just feel all the bad things. For as long as it takes.
I’m just a girl, not a threat.
It's with a heavy but hopeful heart that I watch Palestinian families fundraiser on here, slowly accumulating the precious little money to go around that they need to survive. However, not everyone is so lucky. A lot of Palestinians that have not had that kind of luck, that did not get early verification, that did not get massive platforms behind them from large bloggers, have approached me in my inbox, asking me kindly to do what I can for them. It kills me that I have so little to give myself, but I've seen this platform collectively raise enough to change someone's life. I've made a list of Palestinian fundraisers that are extremely low on funds, in the hope that drawing attention to people who have not been lucky at all can help turn that luck around. I know most of us can't possibly give enough to get all of these families safe in one go. But please, reblog this list. Pick one or two fundraisers, give what you can, and then keep track of it. Slowly, collectively, we can make a difference in these people's lives. Share and donate as much as you can. https://docs.google.com/document/d/178EGDFKkHlh3y4TMVX82kqgITHsqtoMdNccI2f_94Os/edit?usp=sharing
Remember Khaliifah Marcellus Williams! A black Muslim man falsely accused. Remember that he's innocent. Remember that the governor of Missouri, mike Parson who had the opportunity to save this man's life, decided not to. Remember all but three supreme court justices decided his life wasn't worth saving either. Remember his face. Remember his Last words. And remember how fucked up this country is
Rest in peace Marcellus

media literacy would automatically go up 100% if people knew how to consume stories without self-inserting themselves into the characters' shoes. "if i were him..." you're NOT. you may relate to his story, his past, his traits, his quirks, his identity but the moment you start treating the story accepting what you feel/think as what the character feels/thinks, you're misunderstanding the story.

"Noo, I don't have an opinion on what's going on in Palestine."
"I don't like politics so I'm neutral about all of that stuff."
"Don't send me things about the politics of Gaza or Palestine or anything like that, it just makes me really anxious and-"
Those are some real things I've seen people say before. You don't have an opinion on the literal genocide going on in Gaza and Palestine? The lives being taken? The atrocities Israel has done? You're refusing to educate yourself on all of this because it makes you anxious? (Boo hoo) That's disgusting to me. You can't be "neutral" about a literal war??
You're either with Palestine or not. I'm loud and proud about supporting Palestine, and if any of my mutuals, followers, friends or family who don't feel the same, please get away from me and this blog.
i genuinely hate how people have to sit and write a post that stands out while boosting a fundraiser because most people won't bat an eye at the misery and inhumane conditions Palestinians are living in.
i see people making art and telling others to use it because fundraisers with art are generally reblogged more often. i see people using colored text in order to make the post more eye catching.
palestinians on instagram are using popular audios and stitch trending reels at the beginning to make the world pay attention to them. imagine having to make something look entertaining in order to survive.
they are living under constant threat of israeli airstrikes, bombing, scarcity of food and disease. many have lost a lot in the past few months.
palestinians on tumblr are posting their pictures and the horrible conditions in which they are living. they travel long distances for internet connection only to be called a scammer by some privileged ass who cannot locate gaza on a map.
here are some verified gfms. please share the linked posts. it's the bare minimum we can do from the comforts of our home.
