a symbolic sculpture about the place of horses in human society.... does the horse's value change once it is no longer ridden, or can no longer be ridden? as the only painted detail on the fully white horse, the eye is painted in a human-like manner, which asks the viewer to read the horse as humanoid, capable of human thought and emotion. it brings the question of how we view the feelings and thoughts of animals compared to those of humans. the rich inner world hinted at by this painted eye is contrasted with the sculpture's plain and simplistic body, and the empty void on its back in place of a saddle or rider, and the viewer is invited to question whether an animal's perceived worth begins and ends with its usefulness to humanity.
