ren/oda - 30s, AuDHD ♥ queue is almost always up ♥ back in my 90s era don't quit before the miracle happens

idk who needs to hear this today but your life does not end at 25, or 35, or 45, or any point beyond. your life ends when you die.

you are being fed propaganda that directly benefits companies that would like to sell you anti-aging treatments, cosmetics, dietary supplements, and medical procedures, some of which are unnecessary and some of which are actually dangerous.

there's nothing inherently wrong with a lot of them, but if you choose to use these products let it be because you like the way they make you feel, not because you are looking to the warped standards of beauty as defined by capitalism. do not base your worth as a person on standards created by corporations who view you as a marketable audience.

remember that aging is a privilege many of your ancestors did not have, and cherish it.

[ID: a screenshot of a comic speech bubble. The black text in it reads "No matter how open-minded, socially conscious, anti-racist I think I am, I still have old learned hidden biases that I need to examine. It is my responsibility to check myself daily for my stereotypes, prejudices and, ultimately, discrimination." /ID end]

antiracism is a constant process. i was raised in a racist village and it's not easy to get rid of it. i moved away over 10 years ago but those ideas are still haunting me.

True of all prejudice. We can't get rid of them entirely, the assumptions that prejudices are built on are part of our brains threat-assessment system.

What we can do is self-reflect, make ourselves aware of our biases and prejudices, including racism, and correct our thinking in the moment, so we don't act with discrimination.

It's not easy, and it needs to be done every day, all the time. Do it anyway.

These kinds of responses are my FAVORITE. Some examples to answers to this question I have heard:

1.

“Okay, and who’s the president?”

“Obama, no wait, shit *vehemently* fuck, I hate him… what’s his name…”

“It’s okay, you know who he is.”

2.

“Who’s the president?”

“*drunkenly angry and confused* ..uhhhhhhh…Orange… damn it what’s the fuck’s name….

“Yup, good enough.”

3.

“And who’s the president,”

“Not fuckin’ Obama!”

“I feel ya.”

4.

“Who’s the president- wait, nevermind you’re from Korea you said, right? So who’s-“

“Everybody knows that Trump-bitch.”

“Oh, well, alright then.”

5. (My personal favorite)

“Who’s the president?”

“Ew.”

“Good enough.”

My roommate is a neurologist and has to do this check all the time. Her all-time favorite so far has been “ay dios mio” during which the woman was vigorously crossing herself.

lol me too , lady

One time I got “that orange fuck” from a very cute little old lady with urosepsis

I have - quite unintentionally - contributed to this phenomenon.

I was waking up from surgery in the post-op observation room, where they kept people before sending them off to the ICU. The nurse was talking to me as I was semi-awake, telling me that as soon as it was ready, I would be sent to room 2008.

I did not hear the word “room”.

I started trying to sit up and get out of bed (entirely unsuccessfully), shouting (mumbling forcefully), “He’s not president yet! I have to warn everyone!”

That’s awesome. Thank you for trying to warn us

i’ve been looking for this post for ages and it finally crossed my dash again

(( *smiles* the post is back))

Paramedics had to stop asking “who’s the prime minister?” in Australia because it changed so often that not knowing the answer wasn’t really all that indicative of anything.

One paramedic reported receiving the answer “I haven’t watched the news today”.

Meanwhile in Germany, the joke goes that a teenager is waking up in a hospital bed, the nurse asks them who the chancellor is and they say, “hang on are you telling me that can change?”

And here we fucking are again. How did we let this happen.

Musk spent over $28 million in bribes.

Then lost by 10 points in a state First Felon stole, yet Democratic Senators won.

Makes you think about 2024 swing state results.

Cory Booker has been talking in the senate for over 20 hours now

He’s not filibustering. He’s protesting the current administration.

For those of you from outside the US or those of you who didn’t pay attention in government class, in the US senate there’s really no limit to the amount of time a senator can speak. So sometimes if they don’t want a bill to pass they just. Don’t stop talking. To hopefully get past the deadline to vote on a bill. This is called filibustering.

Senator Cory Booker isn’t doing that. He’s disrupting “the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able”. Just in protest. This doesn’t usually happen.

He’s less than 20 minutes away from breaking the record of the longest speech given on the senate floor

Cory Booker has officially broken Strom Thurmond’s record for longest speech on the senate floor and he’s still going

For those of you wondering what he’s been talking about this whole time, his staff wrote down a bunch of stuff for him to read like stories from people across the political spectrum opposed to what the administration is doing. He’s also been telling personal anecdotes about meeting important civil rights leaders and other democratic senators have been pausing him for “questions” but the questions have been as long as a small speech and have both served the purpose of giving him a second to sit down and updating him on the news that he’s been missing while he’s been talking.

He has yielded the floor at 25 hrs and 4 mins. His eyes are so wide they look like they’re going to bug out of his skull so I don’t blame him for stopping. He said to go out and get in some good trouble.

hey wanna hear a joke

in 6x21 (massive carnivorous fungi triple hallucinations episode)we basically see contradictions of what mulder/ scully thought they wanted vs what they actually needed

Mulder thought he needed was Scully blindly believing him when what he needs, being all agreable and wide-eyed to his theories, truly at the core of him, is someone equal to him challenging him, he wanted that agreement and respect earned, he wanted his theories and himself to have some substance not just meaningless applause

And Scully thinking that cold logic (mulder is dead, whatever the explanation) is always the best course of action but at the core of her she's hopeful, she not so much doubts just mulder but herself as well, she's human and soft and loving.

knowing one another, recognizing and even cherishing their differences was what saved them, brb I'll go chew on cement

So with Joann going under and as a Fashion/Costume Designer and a cosplayer I need a place to get fabric and notions, and I know many others feel lost as well

So I made a short simple list of online fabric stores as well as notions .

Please share with anyone you would like. If you have recommendations of things to add please let me know.

There's only a few right now of ones I know and have used

I may add a few niche ones like Silk Baron but I am mainly adding ones with many options and maybe add a niche section later

More places with trims would be nice, or even patterns, historical, cosplay, or everyday.
