The Haus kitchen on one late fall day. Muffins in the oven. Bitty has the Lemonade album on, because classics never go out of style.

Dex peeks around the corner into the kitchen. ”Bitty …” he stage-whispers. “Can we talk?”

For a long time now, the kitchen has served as many things: sometimes courtroom, sometimes therapy space, sometimes bar. Bitty wears a multitude of hats in this room. “Of course,” he says lightly, sensing that some tea is about to be spilled but keeping his voice and smile light.

Dex sits backward on one of the chairs near the table. “It’s about Nurse.”

This is not the biggest surprise in the world. “Oh?”

“You know he gets on my nerves.”

“Oh, no,” says Bitty, “what did you two get into it about now?”

Dex grumbles. “Nothing,” he says. “It’s not that.”  And before Bitty can inquire what it is, Dex gets up from the chair and pokes his head out in the hallway, looking in both directions as though trying to check if anyone’s in earshot. Satisfied, he returns to the chair, sits on it properly this time, and leans toward Bitty furtively. 

“Bitty,” he mumbles, “I think I might kind of like him.”

I'm just gonna leave this link to @the-lincyclopedia 's excellent fic To Every Single Kid I Used To Be (you need to be logged into Ao3), which is a wonderfully hopeful but also devastating fic about Jack writing letters to his younger self. It's not exclusively about autism but that is a big part. (Honestly Lin writes Jack's autism so well it was not easy to decide which fic would be the best example, but this sprung to mind because I listened to the podfic like "hmm. i relate a lot. not gonna think about why right now")

She was on the plane. The first part of her journey was done.

It hadn’t been so bad, really. Suzanne had driven her to the airport in Atlanta, parked and walked her into the airport, made sure her new suitcase got checked, escorted her all the way to the security line.

“I wish you’d let me get a gate pass so I could stay with you,” Suzanne fussed. “Or arranged a wheelchair.”

“I’ll be fine,” Lorraine had rejoined. “I’m not a child, and I’m not decrepit.”

Not yet, anyway.

This trip to Providence was an adventure for Lorraine, her first time in years on an airplane, her first time ever flying by herself.

Jack laughed when he first saw it.

He was at the St. Martins’ house, having a cup of coffee with Marty and Thirdy, listening to the girls play in the den while Gabrielle was at work, wondering what it would be like to have a house and a couple of kids.

He’d never really thought about that, not before this summer. Now, though, he was out of the closet — could never go back in the closet — and Bitty had been living with him since May, and it was … delightful.

Needing a hug

Filling a prompt from @shygryf: A pining Bitty is jealous watching Shitty be casually affectionate with Jack.

Bitty wasn’t sure when he noticed it for the first time.

Maybe it wasn’t the first practice, but it was early.

Shitty was allowed to touch Jack in a way that other players — other people — weren’t.

Shitty clapped Jack on the shoulder when they were skating out onto the ice, slung his arm around Jack’s waist when they walked around campus, even — more than once — kissed Jack on the cheek.

Sure, Shitty was usually very drunk when the kissing happened. It usually followed Shitty making some kind of proclamation like, “Jackabelle! You magnificent specimen of a Canadian moose!” And Jack usually shrunk away a little bit — something between a flinch and a cringe — but he didn’t react violently, or yell at Shitty, or even look really displeased.

If it was anyone besides Jack, Bitty might have started to wonder if maybe, just maybe, he enjoyed intimacy with men.

I want a Truman Show au following Jack where Kent is the actor hired to be his high school best friend but they actually fall in love and Kent almost tells Jack his life isn't real so then he's taken away from him and Jack gets told a story to make him angry at him. Then the showrunners try to setup a relationship between him and Bitty at their fake college (because they know his type now) and it looks like it might work until Kent sneaks onto the set and into the kegster they're having and everything blows up
