generative AI literally makes me feel like a boomer. people start talking about how it can be good to help you brainstorm ideas and i’m like oh you’re letting a computer do the hard work and thinking for you???

There are many difficult things that were replaced with technology, and it wasn't a bad thing. Washing machine replaces washing clothes by hand. Nothing wrong with that. Spinning wheel replaces drop spindle. Nothing wrong with that.

Generative AI replaces thinking. The ability to think for yourself will always be important. People that want to control and oppress you want to limit your ability to think for yourself as much as possible, but continuing to practice it allows you to resist them.

I’ve always wanted to make a comic and I might be onto something guys! Here have the origins of the little postwoman and what might be the preview of a webcomic if I ever continue. Thank you for everyone who motivated me and all the love I received for her! I hope you liked it

aside from any ethical or political discussion, the use of generative AI in amateur projects really sucks to me. I think video games where you can tell all the voice acting was done by one of the developers buddies is great. I love when indie album art was painted by someone who doesn't really know how to paint. I really believe that there's a lot of value in amateur projects where it's clear the people making it didn't have a lot of resources.

If you use AI in projects then it'll be distracting, and if you do everything yourself you'll fall short, and it'll still be distracting, but instead of being frustrating or just plain cheap it'll be endearing.

that's not to mention that using generative AI usually garners a lot of ill will, especially in indie spaces.

It's a very small fetch quest game, where all the "voice acting" (it's just people going "wa wa wa") is done by the dev and their friends.

The same game made with AI would be a soul-less slop. But the dev did everything by hand, and sure it's very imperfect, very indie, but in a very human way that makes it endearing.

I much prefer that than anything with genAI

Anyway, Canadians can now check out Vote Compass to get an easy idea of how your values compare to those of Canada's parties for this coming election.

It can't be 100% accurate, (it makes the left and centre parties seem cooler than they really are,) but I'd mostly agree with my own results.

I find it fascinating that the people making the graph made the effort to separate the "progressive/conservative" from the "left/right", but the correlation is so strong that they all end up in a straight line.

Really shows how much the people who claim that right-wing isn't always conservative are absolute clowns.
