Broke: "Katniss was only with Peeta because of their shared trauma from the Games and the events that followed. After what they went through together, there was no one who truly understood her like Peeta. But if Prim and Peeta had never been reaped, Katniss would have ended up with Gale/stayed single."

Woke: "The Games and the events that followed brought Katniss and Peeta together, but there was something special between them since the day with the bread. Katniss had a subconscious interest in him since they were 11, and after the reaping she couldn't help but fall for him due to their close proximity. The Games weren't her reason for choosing Peeta, but they were a catalyst for their relationship."

Bespoke: "The Games did more to hinder Katniss and Peeta's relationship than to help it. In fact, without the Games to complicate things, Katniss would have fallen for Peeta fast and hard. The Games and the events that followed were responsible for countless barriers to their love including (but not limited to):

1. Instilling in Katniss a distrust of Peeta that did not come naturally to her

2. Forcing her to act in love, regardless of the authenticity of her feelings, in order to survive

3. Broadcasting every moment they shared, no matter how intimate/private, onto every screen in every house in the country

4. Driving them apart due to the pain and confusion that followed the inevitable end of her "star-crossed lovers" act

5. Making their relationship a political tool of manipulation and oppression

6. Leading Snow to hold Katniss personally responsible for defusing the civil unrest within the Districts by means of their love story

7. Forcing them under threat of death to act in love for the rest of their lives, thereby taking away their agency and ability to choose each other out of real love or desire

8. Robbing them of a future together, even if they wanted it, by returning Katniss to the Games and ensuring the death of at least one of them

9. Traumatizing them in ways they'll have to deal with for the remainder of their lives

10. So many other things

The Hunger Games is NOT the story of how Katniss fell in love with Peeta due to or even during the Games. It's the story of how Katniss fell in love with Peeta IN SPITE OF THEM."

It's hilarious how this fandom acts like Beetee, a grown ass man, didn't build the bomb that killed Prim and innocent Capitol children despite knowing exactly how losing a child feels. and instead y'all constantly bash Gale, a TEENAGE BOY who witnessed an attempted genocide of his people for coming up with the plan as if Beetee isn't just as guilty.

I'm not team Gale by any means, but you guys need to get over your biases and stop acting like he's the literal devil. If you can excuse Beetee, a grown man who, again, knows how losing a child feels, you can sympathize with a teenage boy. It's actually pathetic.

“And the lucky girl is . . .” She pauses for effect, twirling the name in her fingers, smirking before driving in the knife. “Louella McCoy!”
I feel sick. Louella McCoy lives three houses down from me, and a smarter, spunkier thirteen-year-old doesn’t exist.

Now I am truly in danger of crying, but fortunately Haymitch chooses this time to come staggering across the stage to congratulate me. “Look at her. Look at this one!” he hollers, throwing an arm around my shoulders. He’s surprisingly strong for such a wreck. “I like her!” His breath reeks of liquor and it’s been a long time since he’s bathed. “Lots of . . . ” He can’t think of the word for a while. “Spunk!” he says triumphantly.

the amount of food Haymitch mentioned in 12 that seems to be a part of his everyday life while being in a very comparable position to Katniss boggles my mind when I go back and think about the food that Katniss describes having. This paired with how pampered the tributes become in the 74th hg I think really speaks to how the capital has really gotten keeping the tributes- and by extension, the districts- docile down to a science. Before, of course, Seneca Crane, but that's because he was drinking the Kool Aid too.

It’s interesting too because I feel like as the districts get more decrepit, the Capital gets more luxurious. Like the treats on the train and in the Capital for Haymitch were nothing compared to the luxuries Katniss and Peeta had on the train and in the Capital. The divide kept getting bigger and bigger.

Nowhere near done finishing Sunrise on the Reaping (because my eyes get tired from crying), but itty bitty teeny tiny spoilers.

So, like I officially believe that Plutarch Heavensbee is one of the smartest, if not the smartest person in Panem.

What do you mean he has been supporting the rebellion for DECADES and never got found out? Even more so, he climbed his way up to HEAD GAMEMAKER without a single poisoned oyster. He fooled THE Coriolanus Snow. He was right there under his giant honker.

I think Plutarch is one of the most fascinating characters. I remember in the original trilogy I thought he was kind of annoying and self centered. I didn’t like him at all, probably because I don’t think Katniss cared for him and I was only seeing through that lens. I never understood his motives, and it rubbed me the wrong way.

But then we get sunrise on the reaping. We get to see just how long he’s been rebelling. A scene that stuck with me so much is when he was making Haymitch’s mom and brother react for the camera so Haymitch could be with them just a moment longer. The way he did it was cruel but so effective. Cruel enough that Snow wouldn’t question it, but giving Haymitch that extra time. And I feel like that’s everything he does. Cruel but effective.

I was thinking about mockingjay and how he interacts with Coin. I fully believe he manipulated Coin the same way he manipulated Snow. Some flattery, acting as a confidant, going along with everything that matters, and yet having his own agenda. Snow and Coin were playing checkers, this man was playing six dimensional chess.

And it begs the question, why? What are his motives? He was from one of the wealthiest families in the Capital, and was most likely getting Capital propaganda shoved down his throat since birth. So what happened for him to see through it? What made him want to eradicate the society that gave him a life of luxury? It’s all so compelling.

And just his pure genius. Moving up in the Capital, leaving Snow none the wiser. Watching Katniss shoot that arrow into Coin’s heart, and all he does is smirk. He played the game the longest. I think he played the game his whole goddamn life. Six dimensional chess, istg.
