I'm trying to write a fic and I'm hung up on a detail

If you were bitten by a person, which would you go for to disinfect the wound? Not with much research, not with intense recalling of medical knowledge. Imagine someone just bit the fuck out of you, you're understandably stressed and freaked out, and you ran to the medicine cabinet to clean it.

one of the most enduringly obnoxious things about algorithmic feeds is that there is genuinely no amount of blocking and tailoring and "not interested in this" and "show me less content like this" that will ever ever convince the algorithm that you don't want to be shown content promoting weight loss

I don't think it's fair to call him a deadbeat either. like the man started trying to have a relationship with his son as soon as he found out he existed. he was trying so so hard to have a father son relationship. yes he tortured his son's friends and yes he did also maim him but that's not important right now.

from my sources adjacent to tumblr--from which i can spread rumors and insider information freely because i dont give a fuck about ever working in the tech sector--im hearing this round of firings was focused on purging the senior staff, and not just from support but from the entire remaining tumblr workforce. i'm hearing there are about 25 people left.

While I don't think that Tumblr is about to shut down anytime soon, as a fandom old who lost my community and my people when the fandom diaspora happened from LiveJournal, I want to urge that you do something NOW:

  • Get your backup account(s) elsewhere NOW
  • Let your moots know your username(s) at those places NOW
  • Follow your moots at their places NOW

I mean this with all my heart. Get this done now. Get set up and find your people now. Tumblr is the home of fandom now, just as LiveJournal was the home of fandom way back. And you could end up losing your fandom home just as easily and quickly as us old LJ people did way back then.

It's a horrible feeling, and most old LJ users still mourn the loss of it to this day.

#I've seen their yout7be channel and it's fascinating how Apollo's mind works#he only knows words by how his humans define them so some things get a little mixed#he calls a pack of napkins a book because thats what bunched up paper is to him#every time the guy brings a creature from outside the bird calls them bugs. even lizards and snakes are bugs. bc outside things are Bugs#he tapped on ceramic tile and insisted that it was glass when they told him it was rock. after thinking on it the humans agreed it was glass#there are other birds in the house. a pair of caiques named ophelia and soleil. they're peak gremlin energy#apollo is smart enough to know which of them has which name

honestly sometimes stories where characters have self awareness and solve their problems maturely can be really refreshing sometimes. and sometimes it feels like therapyspeak slop. intense stories where no one is capable of understanding themselves and act out in incorrect ways can be very fun. and sometimes it feels like contrived bullshit. whatever makes "a good story" is harder to make happen than just using the right kind of characters using the right words
