I am close friends with the Al-Habil family, whose situation I have discussed under our โ#ibtisam al habilโ tag. There is still a lot of concern for the youngest child Nour, who is a disabled teen about whose situation you can learn more under our โ#Nour Al habilโ tag.
Torrential rains have flooded the streets of Gaza and all but destroyed the familyโs tent. They are inundated with freezing, extremely contaminated water, which is extremely dangerous for 15 y/o Nour.
Nour is immunocompromised due to her heart condition. These flood waters carry gangrene, cholera, and polio bacteria among numerous others, as well as many viruses and pollutants.
We were about halfway through raising the funds for the tent when Nourโs mother, Ibtisam, suffered a herniated disc after sustaining an injury while moving a barrel of water. She is in severe pain, and can barely move. This is not only miserable and unhealthy for her, it also prevents her from caring for Nour.
In addition to the ongoing $2,000 USD needed for shelter, the family now needs $300 USD (about $433 CAD) to help Ibtisam manage her pain and be able to move.

I'd just like to clarify some things about Senator Cory Booker's marathon Senate speech in protest of the present administration and everything they are doing to the American people.
Senator Booker was NOT allowed to sit down, eat, or use the bathroom during his speech. Sitting or leaving the room to use the bathroom would be considered yielding the floor. Eating would have interfered with his speaking and the person who has the senate floor must continue to speak, except when listening to questions that they will then answer.
He only took occasional sips of water.
The person who previously held the record for longest speech on the Senate floor did have bathroom breaks and also did things like read from the encyclopedia.
Senator Booker did not do that. His speech was to point out the damage that this administration is doing and he stayed on that subject.
Senator Booker's speech did reach many people. It wasn't a silly stunt that was done so that he could take the record for longest speech. He wanted to show the country that democrats will do something to bring attention to the problems we are facing. That democrats are listening to them.

He trained himself to give this speech by practicing and then implementing limits on food and water intake leading up to this. He cut out food for days, then cut out water the day before.
He then went to do an appearance on Maddow after yielding.
He did interviews with multiple people after before he ate or slept. Including tiktokers. It was genuinely about speaking to the people to show us he was listening. He's standing for us in a way we've been begging our politicians to do for decades at this point. And he was smart and made sure to tell people that that's what he was doing, over and over again.
In the last few decades we've gotten used to expecting our politicians to lie to us. I was probably ten the first time I remember hearing "campaign promises" used as a joking euphemism for lying. I think a lot of people don't bother voting because they assume that everyone running is lying so voting doesn't really matter. If you don't know what you can believe from a politician then you're voting blind no matter who you vote for, so why do it. And the people who do vote tend to vote along party lines without bothering to look closer since political platforms tend to be fictional anyway.
Cory Booker talked to as many people as he could manage afterwards. He told as many different news sources as he could manage that he was there explicitly because it was what his constituents asked for. Implying that people should be expecting the same from their own representatives. Reminding people what his job actually is. Reminding people that there ARE people out there who will do the job they were elected to do and actually represent their constituents. He wanted as many people as possible to hear that they can actually demand things from politicians.
I admire him for this one. Give me a few more senators doing this and I might think there's still hope to prevent ww3.

Life as displaced Gazans was already extremely difficult for them. Food is very scarce, and their living conditions leave them exposed to the elements. Here is the frequent condition of their tent now that the winter rains have come:
Then, Yahyaโs father was injured. Some cartilage was damaged in his neck, and doctors say he requires IMMEDIATE surgery to avoid permanent paralysis.
Yahya and his family previously had another campaign, but it was suddenly shut down by GFM with no explanation. They have created a new one, but it has EXTREMELY LOW FUNDS.
The surgery is a stifling โฌ15,000 euros (about $15,729 USD). Yahya and his family have no hope of paying for it without your help.
I am currently watching an elderly loved one lose their mobility, and it is an extremely heartbreaking and isolating situation. I cannot imagine what Yahya and his family are going through, having no social or financial support and only minimal medical care.
As discussed previously, Omar remains hospitalized with severe burns. You all raised โฌ700 EUR to attain burn ointment for the immediate treatment of his wounds. Thank you.
Unfortunately, this is just the beginning of Omarโs treatment journey.
At just 7 years old, little Omar has third-degree burns over much of his small body due to the IOF attack. The burns are severe in that they burned through his skin, through his ligaments and muscles, and down to his very bones. To say this little boy is in constant, excruciating pain would be a gross understatement.
The pain is not his only problem. The damage to his skin is so severe that his body is unable to heal itself. He requires a skin graft in order to transplant new skin that will be able to regrow.
Without this, Omarโs extensive wounds will remain exposed for a very, very long time. This makes him extremely vulnerable to a catastrophic infection, and his body will be unable to fight it off. Infections are widespread in Gaza right now due to the IOFโs destruction of sanitation infrastructure and the scarcity of antibiotics and other medicines.
This means that at virtually any time, Omar could contract an infection and die. He URGENTLY needs this skin graft so he can finally start to heal!
Please share the campaign widely, donate if you can, and share Omarโs story with your friends and loved ones in real life!! A little boyโs life is at stake!!

the rest of the operation costs โฌ800 - after the 30% fees, this means they will need about โฌ1,150
i have set the temporary goal accordingly, and hopefully we will be able to raise enough for the rest of omar's operation. i will keep updating if we need more once we hit this goal
yahya's family has now been told they need to move their camp in the midst of these bombings. that would cost โฌ150 - i have heard from other families that the current people exchanging digital money for physical cash now ask for 50% fees.
if yahya's family also needs to pay in physical currency, they likely need โฌ300.
