Example of Star Trek Addressing Social Issues - Mental Illness
This scene got me right in the gut when I first saw it. It was revealed earlier in the episode that Garak suffers from extreme claustrophobia, experiencing a severe attack just a few scenes before this one. I was already expecting Martok and Worf to dismiss Garak’s mental illness, especially because the Klingon Empire prides its people on physical strength. I was waiting for them to call him a coward, not “getting over it” like I’ve heard so many times in my own life about mental illness. But as seen above that’s not what happened, the exact opposite does. Its moments like this that make me love Star Trek, even for all its flaws. Sometimes I get to see past my conditioned reaction of the worst, and get to see the best in people instead.
TDLR; Star Trek may be about aliens in the future, but it connects to me on a human level - more than most modern shows do today.
Love some miserable Elon in the morning
normally stuff like this feels performative because anyone can talk shit online to someone and most normal people would just ignore it and block you but in this instance its the funniest thing in the world because you know for a fact its getting to him
even the bloated miller wants him dead
I love funky wildlife services. I aspire to be as funky and know as much about wildlife
THE FINISHED INNER SEAMS WTF??????? Y'ALL WERE GETTING FINISHED EDGES????

question. why do you have 7 featureless grey monoliths in your driveway
There's eight actually but the last one is still in the garage
question. why do you have eight featureless grey monoliths
They're actually a really dark purple
question. why do you have seven featureless really dark purple monoliths in your driveway and an eighth in the garage
Some of them do have features though. There's holes and hinges and stuff, so I can put secrets in em
question. why do you have 8 really dark purple occasionally featureful monoliths

thinking about Hen being sad and Toni telling her she's being silly but Hen saying she knows she's being silly and it still hurt. she grew up with her mom but she was never the kid who got to be pampered or who got to be silly. she was the achiever and the one who took care of everything. so of course it hurt and of course she would know that it could seem silly to her mom. but then Chim sent her balloons. Bobby made her dinner. Karen apologized. Buck did a whole list of chores she said and left with his to-go bag, just wanting to wish her again before he left. he's gonna be back the next day to do the rest too. none of them made excuses to her. they didn't see it as silly. they faltered, but then they made sure to accept that it was on THEM and did everything she wanted. Hen didn't grow up with many people who let her expect better or make demands of them. but now she sits with people who agree that she has the right, who give it to her willingly.
Japan literally came to my island (Guam 🇬🇺 ) during WWII rounded up the natives on the beach and chopped their heads off but sure lmao

Reminder that not only can empires exist outside of Europe, but sometimes non-European Imperial powers have even conquered and colonized parts of Europe.
(Remember- it’s Istanbul not Constantinople.)
Al-Andalus anyone?
Idiots online thinking that imperialism is stored in the Europe.
I worked at a McDonald's as a cashier in high school and it was during a time when they changed their POS system (point of sale, not piece of shit) so everything was now in a slightly different, less logical place, but I was working 20ish hours a week so I picked it up really quickly
Anyway I was out with my friend in the next town over and we went to a McDonald's because she really wanted an ice tea and we go through the drive through. The man greets us out of the little speaker and asks for our order and she says "Hi! Could I get a large sweet ice tea please?"
Silence.
Longer silence.
And I knew in my heart what was happening.
So I leaned over and said, "It's on page two of drinks, under juice, then the third one down."
Another much shorter silence.
Then:
"What the - how the hell did... Uh. I mean. Thank you?"
And it's been literally ten years but I'm still riding the high from that.

I would never forget your birthday…

Alien Scientist: No, you don’t understand. Humans will pack bond with anything.
If you are trying to overcome a fear of spiders I can’t recommend this TikTok enough. They never post jump scares and always put warnings if a spider moves fast in a video. All of the videos are super cute and portray the spiders in a very positive and non threatening manner. 11/10 would recommend.
These kinds of things give me hope
mushroom chat just dropped
I want to log on to the mushroom chat so bad
What would you even say?
"Had a cute frog sit on me today. Win."
jason's death was inevitable from the moment he went against zeus in boo. there was no other way it could have ended. ouranos was a tyrannical king who was overthrown by his youngest son, kronos. kronos was a tyrannical king who was overthrown by his youngest son zeus. zeus is a tyrannical king. he knows he will be overthrown one day. fate cannot be escaped, not even by gods. not even by fate itself. zeus knows he cannot retain his power forever. that his youngest son might be the one to take the power away from him. and his youngest son questioned his decision. without hesitation. his youngest son had the power to go against gaea herself. of course zeus wanted to dispose off him. jason had performed his part. he saved the world, fulfilled the prophecy. there was no other reason for keeping him alive. of course jason died after doing his part. jason is the proof that you can do everything right in your life but still not get your happy ending. that you can try everything and still fail to survive. i cannot stand people completely ignoring the fact that he died. he did not just die. he died for a cause. his death has meaning. and erasing is death also erases that meaning.
Owwwwwwwwwww
But also, so true.
Read his story, tell his story. Jason wanted Άπόλλων (Apollo) to remember, and he will. But how can he remember if we don't? We shape the gods. So we need to remember. We must remember. We must read his story again. Tell it again. To the next generation and the next. We must keep his memory alive and honor his wishes. We must.
