Food firm Raisio has recalled some of its broad bean – or härkäpapu in Finnish – products due to the discovery of listeria bacteria.
According to the Finnish Food Safety Agency, the recall applies to 250-gram packages of Raisio's Beanit umami crumb products with best-by dates of 25 August and 26 August 2022.
The recalled products have been sold in retail stores all over Finland, and those who bought them can contact Raisio's customer service.
Listeria bacteria can cause a disease called listeriosis, which may be asymptomatic or cause flu or gastroenteritis-like symptoms. However, for those in certain risk groups, the disease can be life-threatening.
In recent years, broad bean products have become a popular, domestically grown plant-based protein source in Finland.
