The repair of a fault detected in the third unit of the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant last weekend will be complete on Thursday, but it will be operating at reduced power until Friday, according to owner-operator Teollisuuden Voima (TVO).
Power generation at OL3 was interrupted on Sunday 17 November due to a turbine failure.
TVO issued an update on Wednesday afternoon in a post on social media site X, saying that OL3's "electricity production can resume as early as Thursday, 21 November 2024, but the plant will operate at a reduced power level until Friday."
Autumn problems
TVO's Communications Manager, Johanna Aho, told Yle on Monday that electricity production was interrupted by the plant's automatic reaction to a fault in the seal oil system of the generator on its turbine.
Power generation at Olkiluoto was last interrupted in September, when the plant's number two reactor was out of operation for almost a month due to a generator rotor failure.
The Olkiluoto 3 unit also experienced problems when its output was very close to its maximum of 1,600 MW in early October.
Last spring, Olkiluoto 3's first annual maintenance dragged on five weeks longer than expected.
Edited to reflect a further update by TVO on Wednesday.
